I just realised that ASUU also pays image-makers on social media to help them fight on that front. You are one of them.

Well let me tell u guys something. Buhari, no matter how much I dislike him, is definitely not like other leaders in time past. He (or his handlers) gat lots of guts. ASUU is in not gonna arm twist him into agreeing to absurd and ridiculous conditions this time.
I have a feeling that FG will win this fight very easily. Luckily, they have long pocketed the judiciary and the national assembly.

Expect some very drastic and unconventional moves from the govt very soon. E go shock ASUU, and they won't be able to do shit about it.

IBB did worst. ASUU prevailed.

Your Buhari never saw the protest coming till it came and he was forced to shift. Bros, forget people no de fear the man again. Die na Die...

Salary ko! Salary ni!! How many be de even survive with salary before...

Forget the university establishment acts. if one acts fails, you can another would be adopted, though with adequate consultations. Assu should key into the IPPIS or forget about their salary. There have not been any union that gain government attention like Assu and NMA.

I can't really make sense of whatever point you are trying to make. If you mean that the acts should be amended, yes acts can be amended but whatever amendment they make will never take away university autonomy. So, university workers reporting to fg is laughable and not possible.

BTW, this issue of IPPIS is being over flogged. The real issue is implementation of MoU and MoA based on the 2009 agreement.

Thanks for clarifying. Your points have provided further context into the issues. Believe it or not, I'm not an insider...I'm have never worked for the govt or any govt affiliated institution. Anyways..thanks once again for the civility in your response....a rarity on NL which is why i don't bother commenting here much.

One more question though, if you can shed some light. Since these issues are mostly administrative, why are the Vice Chancellors and Governing councils not involved in this fight with the FG. ASUU should rightly be pushing from a position of it affecting their take home pay...but I expect the association of VCs if there is one to be the ones pushing the issues around visiting lecturers, sabbatical, limits on recruitment etc. It appears they've taken a back sit.

I was with the ASUU president raising this same question to him that we the younger academics feel the struggle should channel more to our welfare... Doctors don't strike because of infrastructure but only we in ASUU. At least VCs should do all that. He gave me a response that I would not want to share here.

However, you know Nigerian politics and high service. Nobody wants to be said to be against his Oga. VCs are also ASUU members so they know and support ASUU on this, but since they are political appointees they often stay off critical issues.

Finally, yes tax is pay as you earn but when agreements are reached on variations and it is documented it should be respected. Also, usually AG staff come from Abuja to capture people to the IPPIS before they are paid and in some cases it takes close to 1year as experienced in some government agencies most especially if the leaders are not willing to play balls through giving them slot for recruitment or paying for their expenses to and fro.

Since the introduction of IPPIS buying job is now rampant cos they are people who sell slots given to them and at outrageous rates.

Finally, it's a pleasure to share perspectives on issues like this.

You aren’t wrong either. That’s why I made a statement. I stand to be corrected, how many times, if any, have Nigerian students and Parents stand up for better education in this country? Check BBN street campaign and EndSars campaign, you will see that we have the power to effect a change. Unfortunately, they haven’t thought in this direction. The only blame ASUU should take is not carrying the stakeholders along eg Students and parents.

The day students open their mouth, the day education will be given another chance but we all want to graduate on time yet our dear sisters and brothers will meet the decay. Again, you aren’t far from the truth.

yeah, if the youths put this kind of endsars vigour into ASUU matter, I believe it would have been sorted out long ago.

Sad to see that IPPIS is already being sabotaged by human operators. Too many issues in this country.

It’s a pleasure as well.

You under estimate ASUU...

The Military government including the dreaded Abacha did worse, but the union ASUU has remained ever strong.

Have you seen the FG is already getting desperate and uncomfortable to let the strike continue, I bet they didn't think their recalcitrant attitude towards education will back fire...

Agents of darkness like you who seek the destruction the last standing education strata will come to. Nought.

. Look at the dead public primary and secondary education we currently have. Is that what you desire.

ASUU is only after their pockets. Forget about how much they try to conceal the obvious. Too bad that they are yet to meet a govt that can match them cunning for cunning

Your mentality is why ASUU members are insisting their leadership focus on their welfare and jettison any talk about revitalization of Universities.

They should also allow the FG increase tuition to 300K, we are ready to lecture students under trees. When that happens, the Nigerian students and parents will appreciate the union.

ASUU won't allow fee increase, simply because it will make education less affordable. If less students are admitted, they can't sell handout and textbooks. Ultimately, ASUU is ONLY concerned about their pockets

You are talking out of ignorance.. ASUU has no business with your school fees, and lecturers in Federal Universities don't sell handouts...

A student who feels he is not supposed to buy text books has lost his/her purpose as a student.

Like I said, if it means lecturing under the trees, ASUU is ready to accept it for better pay at the moment .. When the time is ripe, the students will face the govt, and demand better funding for education.

We can't continue fighting for the welfare of the system, while those who will benefit from it continually insult us.

is it because u bound it like a textbook? Does that make it a textbook? U guys are just the biggest hypocrites that ever existed. Students are getting wiser. One day, if the govt refused to give u Ur medicine, students will do the job.
And which welfare are u fighting for? When u consistently play a pivotal role in the electoral process to put these demons in power. U guys are the returning officers that announce election results. You take all sorts of bribes to put rogues in power. Only to turn round and start crying foul.

Bunch of greedy, inept and incompetent monkeys

You aren't making any sense, It takes a lot to produce text books, I am sure you used PN Okeke physics text book in your secondary school if you were a science student. Will you also call Prof. PN Okeke a fraud. There are countless of quality text books produced by Nigerian scholars, offcourse i don't expect a potential drop out to appreciate what it takes to produce good texts for students.

There is nothing you, or the government can do that past military regimes didn't try but failed woefully, pata pata all scholars will abandon the system and leave it for dunces like you to finally ruin them.

On election matters

Is it ASUU that has refused to amend and strengthen the electoral laws to make it foolproof?

Is it ASUU that arms the youths with guns and cutlasses to wreck havoc during elections?

Is it ASUU that induces voters during election?

Is it ASUU that chose to sell their votes shamelessly?

Is ASUU, INEC that supervises the entire process?

It is shameful you lack depth in good logical, and rational thinking. You and your cohorts mess up the entire process, and expect collaters to do magic, what a shame.

Your output on this thread demonstrates you never passed through the four walls of the university, we don't train shallow minds like you. .. Take a break from cyberspace and do a thorough re-evaluation of yourself, 2020 is long gone, 2021 may usher learning opportunities for you.

Have a wonderful day ahead lad.

all u know is how to play with words and concote big grammar. U all are just empty lots. As for not going through the four walls of a university, well, it will probably shock u when I am the one supervising Ur PhD, if u are yet to get one.

Unlike the rest of u lots, I am pragmatic and objective in my approach to issues. ASUU is simply being irrational and selfish
