Forget the university establishment acts. if one acts fails, you can another would be adopted, though with adequate consultations. Assu should key into the IPPIS or forget about their salary. There have not been any union that gain government attention like Assu and NMA.

I can't really make sense of whatever point you are trying to make. If you mean that the acts should be amended, yes acts can be amended but whatever amendment they make will never take away university autonomy. So, university workers reporting to fg is laughable and not possible.

BTW, this issue of IPPIS is being over flogged. The real issue is implementation of MoU and MoA based on the 2009 agreement.

Anyways..thanks once again for the civility in your response....a rarity on NL which is why i don't bother commenting here much.

One more question though, if you can shed some light. Since these issues are mostly administrative, why are the Vice Chancellors and Governing councils not involved in this fight with the FG. ASUU should rightly be pushing from a position of it affecting their take home pay...but I expect the association of VCs if there is one to be the ones pushing the issues around visiting lecturers, sabbatical, limits on recruitment etc. It appears they've taken a back sit.

Finally, yes tax is pay as you earn but when agreements are reached on variations and it is documented it should be respected. Also, usually AG staff come from Abuja to capture people to the IPPIS before they are paid and in some cases it takes close to 1year as experienced in some government agencies most especially if the leaders are not willing to play balls through giving them slot for recruitment or paying for their expenses to and fro.

Since the introduction of IPPIS buying job is now rampant cos they are people who sell slots given to them and at outrageous rates.

Your mentality is why ASUU members are insisting their leadership focus on their welfare and jettison any talk about revitalization of Universities.

They should also allow the FG increase tuition to 300K, we are ready to lecture students under trees. When that happens, the Nigerian students and parents will appreciate the union.

ASUU won't allow fee increase, simply because it will make education less affordable. If less students are admitted, they can't sell handout and textbooks. Ultimately, ASUU is ONLY concerned about their pockets
