Me: I have a graduate research Assistantship. I will be working with Dr. Sey gig on a research, the x of y. Hence, the department is fully funding my study.
VO: I can see 50% Graduate Assistantship here. That's strange. I have not seen such before.
Me: (I tried to explain) the 50% is just saying I have 50% full time employment. Also from the I-20, there is no deficit there.




Please, what do you think could be the reason?
I have mailed my school and they have updated my I-20, removing the 50% there. (that's actually how the school write full funding for students, I confirmed from others). Secondly, do I need to get a letter from the school to explain why they updated my I-20?

Also, is the reason on the yellow paper same for everybody, is it generic?

Visa Approved.

My interview was by 8:00m but I got there by 5:29am. I met 6 people there already waiting and I joined them. When it was some minutes to 6am,a woman asked us why came this early and we told her some of us had appointment by 6am,she was so shocked. She said she was expecting 7am as the earliest time for appointments.
So,she took her time before she started attending to us. We were asked to line up and we did security check before we started going inside the building in 5.
The V.O denied the first two ladies. They were married and working. Only one came with her kid. The 6 people that followed were given. Two were going for undergraduate,one PhD and 3 masters. Three have started their courses online.
I was the 9th person that was attended to.
V.O :- Good morning
Me:- Good morning (I passed my passport,I-20 and SEVIS fee confirmation page).
V.O:- Where are you going?
Me:- I am going to Georgia state university for my master's degree in Chemistry.
V.O:- Why this school?
Me:- The university has a strong reputation for research, innovation and diversity, I believe it would be an exciting place to be as I would be offered varieties in (he cuts me)
V.O:- Tell me things I can not find on the school website. You are telling me things you crammed from the school website
Me:-( Looking at him without saying anything because I was so confused)
V.O:- How many schools did you apply to?
Me:- Six
V.O:- Name them
Me:- Marquette university,Texas Tech, Bowling Green, Auburn university,Ohio university and GSU.
V.O:- Did Marquette give you admission?
Me:- No
V.O:- What about Auburn and others?
Me:- Only GSU gave me admission.
V.O:- oooooh I see, Which University did you finish from?
Me:- Federal University of Technology Minna.
V.O:- Who will pay for your deficit ($15,000)
Me:- My brother
V.O:- What does he do?
Me:- He has big store where be sells food stuffs and provisions in wholesale and also.has trucks for transportation business.
V.O:- Okay(types for some minutes). I intend to approve your visa,we are having problems with our reciprocity fee payment,you will have to come back tomorrow to pay it. Thank you
Me:- You are welcome ( I was shocked when he told me thank you,I said you are welcome in reflex).
He didn't ask me for any documents.

My GRA contract letter quoted 50percent but it didn't appear anywhere on my i20.

Can you screenshot where the 50percent appeared on your i20?

Also my i20 reflected estimated cost for 9months although my school is currently working on it to reflect 1year and make the assistantship amount section upto 47000usd

I am trying to rebook appointment now. Saw 11 Dec as the earliest date. But as clicked on "previously refused" it started showing me no dates available.

Wow this fully covers your cost. Book another date quickly, I'm sure you will get it this time around with the new i20. Even though my contract offer didnt say I have 100% funding, they didnt state that on my i20.

Your school should give you a new i20 without that 50percent stated there.

They have done so. I hope printed copy will be accepted. Cos I don't have much money to ship the original at the moment.

I really don't like the way your school stated your financials. They are kind of overstating the deficit and the VO will need to do the maths themselves

The funds available total is more than the cost so the difference is actually going to be a surplus and not a deficit.

I will screenshot the new i20 when I get it coa I got that one in fall.

On the new one there will be no family fund, just assistantship of about 47k and personal funds of 5k

Let's assume total cost of studies is $40,000 and one gets an assistantship of $30,000. It means the deficit is 10k right? So when you request for your I-20 and submit your assistantship letter, you need to also submit a bank statement for the deficit. So on that right side, your assistantship amount shows as 30k, then maybe self or family support should only show that 10k deficit. It should not matter even if you submitted a bank statement of 200k. My point is that you I-20 isn't showing your actual deficit, you will be relying on the VO to do the maths or you should be prepared to explain. I don't know if you understand my point

It will definitely affect October 21st interview cos there is no movement. I saw this coming. God help us... let the interview date we struggled to secure not be cancelled �

If possible, those that have interviews tomorrow and next can leave for the nearest hotel to the consulate, before the 24hr curfew starts at 4pm in Lagos. Just my wild thoughts.

Let this not bother you. No sensible government will forcefully impose curfew for too long. It's unethical.
