Green, white, green, they raised in unison. Chanting songs that were as musical as they were historic. Marching down the street, you could tell they were burdened. Their faces screamed a thousand words and some looked numb, like they had just come out of grieving. Though, they seemed formidable, their hearts would race at the sight of uniforms. No longer did they think them safe, their dead was enough confirmation that they were sheep's clothing for the wolves that wore them. These wolves had huge claws, they would come in numbers and hunt in formations. A loud wailing and cry of pain. The hunt has begun, those who marched had started running. "Arise O Compatriot", some stood still and yelled. They thought they could calm the beasts with what had meant something to them. Little did they know that they were endangered species, gearing towards extinction - as more of their kind breathe their last. The hunting scene grew pitch dark, blinding those who ran and making the predator more of a mystery. Unsettling noise replaced melody, as bodies dropped in order. It had come to an end. The darkness slowly fades and the wolves had gotten rid of their clothing. Huge claws became emptied guns that left a trail of bullets several inches long. The uniforms, given as a symbol of security. The dead bodies, the people that needed protection. The wolves, the people meant to be protecting. How does a country threaten its own national security? How does a country terrorise itself?! Green, white, green, they raised in unison. Green, white, red, they lower as they near death. Blood stains stamping a colour not forged by painters, but by murderers. © Emmanuel Nwaeze 22/10/2020 2 Likes
