Good afternoon Nairalanders,
I had to open a new account for this.

I got a loan as a contract staff( outsourced staff) at a bank in Nigeria around May of this year.
I am supposed to repay 30000 every month which is supposed to be deducted from my salary till next year May.
Knowing that I am still under contract with my parent company an outsource company till next year July.
However, July, 2020, I was asked to leave my position in the bank due poor performance on the job. I didn't forsee this happening. I was in fact shocked by this happening.
I haven't been able to get a new job ever since due to covid 19 and instability in the country.

I have been threatened so many times by the branch manager of the branch I took the loan from. He told me I need to pay all the loan I got back if not he will either arrest me or embarrass and arrest my guarantors.

I took the loan for a good 'course' which has not yielded what was intended due to some unforeseen circumstance around it.

I know as well the condition surrounding my dismissal wasn't right. But I don't want to fight it.

My parents and family members looked to me for financial help. They themselves are very not financially buoyant to even feed themselves!


Now I am very worried right now. By what the manager has said and how this might affect my career.
I notice as well that the monthly repayment increases by 2000, with each month of non repayment failure.

I will so much appreciate advice on what to do in the situation. Please save me and my future!

talk to your friends and extended family to help u out.
taking loans from financial institutions in Nigeria is a very bad thing to do

The banks manager's job is also on the line just in case you don't know.

Next time don't just take a loan because it's available without thinking it through first!

Here is my advise to you: Write officially to the bank manager and explain your situation then negotiate with the bank to give you a discount and arrive at a final amount for the loan and to also stop computing default penalty on the loan.

After this run around to sell whatever you can sell and borrow what you can borrow from family and friends to pay off the agreed amount so you can be free from the loan and restore your credit rating.

Approach the bank manager yourself, you do not need to pay anyone or get a consultant for it

Write them a letter stating valid reasons for your inability to meet up with repayments and urge them to stop charging any form of interest(default interest inclusive) pending when you will secure another job after which you will commence repayment.

Tell the back manager your situation, ask him if you can still keep your job even at a reduced salary. So the debt could be deducted from that salary.

I'll rather drink my garri in peace than go to any financial institution for a loan.
Have a one on one conversation with the bank manager to see if you can work out a way to pay back.

For your info the bank he's owing has an army of lawyers who can tear his lawyer to pieces.

When you're owing and are in default you're supposed to adopt a conciliatory stance and not be confrontational knowing that you're in the wrong.

Professor, I Do Not Mean Confrontation Or A Fight Against Him. I Gave D Idea Thinking Dat D Lawyer Would Help In Resolving D Issue Cuz, If He Gets Arrested & Imprisoned, Who Will Pay His Debt?

This bank is already taking this seriously now. They've started calling out my guarantors! I havent gotten another job
