Nothing is wrong with your son, he is just living in his own world and he is enjoying it.
Thanks.
When he wants something, he pulls the nearest person by the hand, lead you to where the item is and points, when you ask what he wants and he perceives you are waiting for him to make a sound, he gets very frustrated.

Trust me, you don't have anything to worry about. My daughter did us shege before she started walking. We took her for check up and the Ped confirmed that nothing was wrong with her. We have about 4 walkers for her alone just to train her. She would not use any of them, she would rather sleep on the floor. But now, she runs around scattering the whole house. So, for your son, a time will come you will tell him to be quiet for a while. Trust me.

Greetings,

My family has become very worried because our 2 year old (27 months) son doesn't talk yet and doesn't seem interested in making effort to talk.

The only word he says almost correctly is BYE whenever someone is leaving the house. However he has his own version of 'daddy' (ampu) & 'mommy' (mei).

He is smart however, but just not interested in talking and sometimes it appears he does not understand when you give him instructions, other times he'd do exactly what you ask him to do. He plays well with his older siblings who started talking well before 2.

We have ruled out hearing issues as he seems to hear when music or sounds he likes come on tv, he would start dancing to music he likes even if he's not seeing the TV.

Has anyone here had experience like this? Should we be more worried? What can we do to help our son start talking.

Mods please help put this on front page so we can get enough help/opinions - thanks.

You should be very worried. Take him to a paediatrician. I hope he doesnt have a tongue tie and I hope his hearing is OK too. One of the commonest causes of speech delay is when a child can't hear properly, so they don't know words.
By age 2, they should have a vocabulary of at LEAST a 100 words (whether english or your native tongue)

Thank God DJ Switch has finally made a video about what happened that night. For those who didn't watch it, she mentioned two forces; the Nigerian army and the police force. The Nigerian army came first, and when they left, the police force (SARS) continued. Perhaps, reason why there was an increase in the death toll and why the army also denies it.

Now, you may be wondering why DJ Switch and others took the bodies to the soldiers. Let me tell you what happened.

According to Brigadier General Francis Omata, who was alleged as the person who gave his soldiers, the command to kill unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, he didn't do it.

Francis said he was not the one who gave the order. It was Lt. Col S.O Bello of the 65 Battalion Bonny Camp.

Why his name is being spread about is because when he heard the plot, he rushed to the scene 39 minutes later to pull back his boys.

He had to announce his name to prevent them from shooting him. This was how people got his name and thought he led them. Here is the link below to read this information:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.withinnigeria.com/2020/10/21/brigadier-francis-omata-clears-the-air-on-lekkimassacre-names-officer-who-led-the-operation/amp/

Yes, the Nigerian Army under the command of LT. Col S.O Bello, gave the command to kill unarmed protesters. Who sent Bello?

Now, the reason why DJ Switch trusted the army enough to lay the bodies at their feet was because of Omata. She thought she could trust him, since he came to stop his boys. So for those wondering, I hope you have your answers.

Now, in her statement, she said the SARS police came later. You know they are still disgruntled about their dissolution and took out their anger on the protesters. They've been killing before, it's not a new thing.

The bulk of the killing, the probable 63 dead youths were killed by SARS, the same people this protest is all about.

And...

They are silencing people from speaking the truth.

I found this out when someone made a post of one of the victims and how he was killed. When I got back to check the post, I didn't see it. I asked the lady, she said they told her to take it down.

Who are they?

Now, let's look at a time line of event since the Lekki Massacre:

Sanwo-Olu wrote;

"This is the toughest night of our lives as forces beyond our direct control have moved to make dark notes in our history, but we will face it and come out stronger." This was by 7:43 10/20/20.

Meanwhile the shooting continued until the next morning. Forces beyond our Governors control stopped him from directing the ones under his control to stop the shooting.

We also heard the military was looking for the survivors of the shooting to kill them off.

This was after Sanwo-Olu wrote,

"There are currently 10 patients at the Gen. Hospital, 11 at Reddington, and 4 at Vedic; with mild to moderate levels of injuries while 2 are receiving intensive medical care."

I believe he made this statement as a means of informing the military where the survivors are since making phone calls might leave trails when investigations begin.

Reno Omokri tweeted on 17th,

"I just got privilege information that there is division in the military about how to handle EndSARS protesters, with Burutai pushing for a Shiite scenario, similarly to the Zaria massacre."

This was on 17th October, 2020. The Lekki massacre happened 20th October, 2020 with the military and SARS hiding dead bodies so they can easily twist the story.

Do you know what these guys are doing?

They want to discredit the Lekki story and they are winning!

These people maimed the Nigerian Youths that went out to protest for a better life, they killed them, and threatened their family to keep quiet.

They are monsters!

Thanks for your comments.
1. I just registered today, I have used nairaland as a guest member for some time.
2. I opened this to seek opinions to calm the wife's mind. I'm not at all worried like her. I myself didn't stand or walk until I was more than a year old.
3. I don't expect perfect diction or a sentence from him. If you read our worries objectively you'd have seen the part that I mentioned he is not interested in talking or making efforts at all.

Again thanks for your comment
Stop worrying. My friend's kid didn't start talking until he was almost three, and that was because he started creche at that age. The week he started, everyone was called 'aunty' (including his mum and dad). By the following week he had added more words to his vocab. My baby is 12 now and a talkative who only keeps silent when he is asleep.

This can be as a result of different languages being spoken at home, confusing the child which language to pick or understand.

Imagine the parents speaking indigenous language to themselves and speaking “irregular” English Language to the child. That is so much an enough confusion.
infants can learn 2 or more languages simultaneously

At two years its too early to get worried anyway, let him start mixing up with other kids and the challenges he will be getting will stir him up

Same issue I'm faced with my 27months old boy... All his older siblings started running their mouths well before 12 months, but his best is "Da-a" (Daddy), and "..iss" (yes).
Dude is extremely smart: hears well, understands perfectly, carrys out instructions, can identify MOST parts of his body, can identify about 8 colours, all digits (0 - 9) and ALL letters of the English alphabet (thanks to big Bro).

His Mom ain't bothered one bit but worry wan finish me.
Well, I've scheduled a session with his Ped for next week, to avoid future stories that touch.

TBH, I'm considering DNA too (funny-frowns)

Expose him to a wide variety of toys. Trampaulin is a very good play material. Buy him bubbles. Create time to engage him yourself by playing with him. You could start with the ball. Every child loves the sight of a ball. Build his vocab by extending all single words he says. Eg when he says mummy help to extend that word with "mummy wants to cook, write," etc or if he mentions ball extend his vocab by describing the colour of the ball. "Blue ball' and help him to carry out action words while playing.

My two cents from experience

It is normal for parents to worry especially when it comes to their children. So don't let anyone here fault you for being concerned.

From what I have seen, children develop differently; when they start growing teeth, walking, talking, etc. My cousin's daughter walked at 10 months, grew teeth at about 4 months but my daughter was over a year when she walked and her first set of teeth came out at 11months...lol. But one thing my daughter was fast in was talking. She talked before she walked. By 2, she was a talkative.

I am sure your son developed fast in some other areas but is just taking a longer time to talk. But if you are not convinced, you should consult with a paediatrician to get a professional view.

Thank you, his all-round development is impeccable. He walked at 11 months, he has grown almost full set of child-teeth and seems tall for his age. Just his lack of interest to learn to talk or even blab

His ability to say bye and to move to dance when he hears songs he likes has made us rule out deafness or being mute (dumb).

I have encouraged the mother to worry less, let him take as much time as he needs and when school reopens we will enroll him into school before worrying about possible deformity if he still doesn't want talk when he is more than 3 years

Enrolling him in a school should help him talk. I believe he knows a lot about what to say because when he does start talking, it will all come rushing out. But he is just taking his time.

Please let madam stop worrying. It might be his nature not to talk much. But whatever the case, he will be fine

Didn't you see where he said the boy is smart? The DNA is required perhaps because that trait does not run in his family.

DNA testing is required if he suspects the child might not be his but not because of what you typed.

Do you know all the traits that has ran in your family lineage dating back to say 5 to 10 generations past?

Do you understand what is meant when someone is said to carry a recessive trait?

How much do you know about genetics?

Thanks for commenting.

Since he hasn't told us why he thinks the child may not be his, we can only speculate.
I am shocked you missed my sarcasm there, it may have been very bad. sad

Scientifically, a child has ability to learn and speak up to 5 languages while growing up. Although, it is recommended that we speak our indigenous language to our children as they are genetically inclined towards it...However, 2 years is too early to be worried about a child speaking, I will advise youw wait till he is 4 years old before being bordered..If at this time he is nt speaking, then you can consider speech therapist
