Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s ex-finance minister and nominee for the office of the director-general of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, is set to emerge winner in the highly competitive race. The former minister according to TheCable, polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her South Korea’s trade minister opponent, at the final stage of the race. GamalNasser:Not true. The US has said it will not back a consensus for her. So there is a meeting and if the US insists..it will go towards a GC meeting on Nov 9. We are hopeful the US should back-pedal. |

Omihanifa:Japan, China & The EU have insisted they won't sanction Yoo. For now, it is stalemate. Talks will continue behind the scene. The next GC meeting is Nov 09, and if there is no resolution by then, its till next year. |
