Anybody who leaves Nigerian soil to Canada and regrets it... Is simply suffering from Psycho-Olimpomatic meristemasis.
Pls don't ask me the meaning. Go and ask gov. Ayade.

How can someone say it's easier to do business in Canada than in Nigeria. Which kind of business are you all doing. You have access to Canada a very rich nation, you have access to the USA, the richest consumer nation on earth. You have access to Mexico and south America. That whole region between north to south America is filled with wealth. You have educated people who are very conversant with technology and most of all have the money to spend. Doing business in Nigeria isn't easy. Many Nigerians don't have money and can only afford the basic essentials of life.

You mean easier in Nigeria than in Canada. I agree. I'm still trying to understand the logic. A lot of people here are comedians to be honest.

Some people are saying trash here. I know someone that was earning 800k monthly and still immigrated to Canada. I was shock.

Your 200k is nonsense. You cannot even rent a clean flat on that salary in a good location in Lagos. Most clean flat Ina good location Is around 800k and above, I am not talking about worn out houses oo in Bariga or Abule Egba.

If you already have kids., hahaha sorry is your case. School fees will almost drain it all. To live a comfortable life in Lagos as a family man, you need a steady income of 1m naira monthly, 12m per annum. Anything less than that you will still struggle.

That is why life is much easier for successful business men or entrepreneurs as they can afford whatever they like limitlessly unlike salary earners.
800k and still ran away grin

Serious comedians. It's kids who have never ever ran any business. Nigeria is one of the most difficult places to do business. Unfavorable government policies and a very poor populace who can only afford the basic needs.

I am convinced he isn't thinking Nigeria will change for the better, he is only pained he doesn't have the capacity to emigrate. He is an hypocrite like Desmond Elliot who wrote IELTS in 2018 in an attempt to relocate at least his family to Canada and is bashing his fellow celebrities today for supporting end sars.

Its the naija way. Try to leave. If you can't get into politics to steal. Meanwhile claim how good naija is, and how the grass is not greener on the other side. This guy bashed the hungary citizens for taking the food that is theirs. He bashed the youths for protesting, so police can stop killing/harassing them. In 2020 and we're begging our police force to please stop killing us. Then he claimed how the youths are uncivilized, and looting.

He didnt bash the politicians stealing millions of naira yearly. No mention of the military killing its own citizens, or the oga on top who ordered it. No mention of the politicians who stored the food meant for the people, only to most likely re-sell. No mention of the officers who have committed murder in cold blood, and are still walking the streets freely, while you can get arrested here for even uttering a threat. This is the zoo people elect to live in because of 200-800k naira per month or whatever ? Have mercy.

This thread prompted me to do research about life for immigrants in Canada.

The Canadian dream we have been sold is just good PR by their government,in addition to some sweets thrown in (Free health care, free education, child support). All this is indirectly paid for by way of taxes. The unemployment rate is high, high cost of living and rent.

Now,on the relaxed immigration policies to Canada. The Canadian government isn't doing anyone a favour.Rather they are luring you in to build their workforce, increase their population and also generate a lot of revenue off the visa fees immigrants pay.
The fact is this, the more persons that immigrate there, the more tax revenue the govt makes!

So many Nigerians don't do any research before moving there, they just want to escape from Nigeria.I will attach screenshots of persons living in canada as found on quora so everyone can know what to expect before moving there.

If you want to get a true picture of what life can be in canada,go on quora. Many are not saying the truth here on nairaland. It's not so rosy.

Imagine a Nigerian who left here, was living in a one bedroom basement apartment with his wife and 3 kids. Both of them work but can't make enough to get a bigger apartment. So they basically live from hand to mouth!

My thoughts are this: Canada is for persons who don't really have much going on for them here or persons who have made so much money, that even if they aren't making enough money there, they have savings to live off on.

My question is: How many Nigerians having much going on for them in Nigeria?

In fact most people who apply for Canada immigration are those who still have something going on for them. Many Nigerians cannot even afford it 'cos they have been impoverished by the system in the country.

This is exactly what i was discussing with my husband. My point is that people should do proper research before jumping on a plane to Canada. It's not the paradise that it's painted to be.The average Nigerian gets carried away easily, only few of us actually think these decisions through and do thorough research before moving.

I'm glad you know it's a personal decision. I would have been more glad if you also appreciated the fact that these experiences you shared from Quora are also people's personal experiences because in everything we do our stories would always differ. That some people are finding life in Canada difficult doesn't mean it is difficult for every immigrant in Canada. Canada never promised anyone a job once they land in their airports or to bottlefeed you till the rest of your life, there's no such place on earth to the best of my knowledge. And of course it wouldn't be business as usual once you move to a new place, there have to be a shift in your own paradigm. And not all of us jumped on the bandwagon, I personally did my research and I don't regret my moving to Canada at all, but it doesn't translate to your opinion that my life was hopeless in Nigeria.

It is fine if you believe Canada isn't for you, but please don't insult the intelligence of every Nigerian that moved to Canada, you don't know our individual reasons.

Enjoy your day. wink

My opinion is: like someone said above, experience differs. I know a medical doctors couple who have been practicing in Canada for many years.

About two years ago, they decided to invest in Nigeria by erecting a cancer treatment centre worth billions of naira. Obviously, their experience over there is a positive one. While some other may have very terrible one.

My conclusion: the advantage you can get living over there far outweighs the one you get living in Nigeria. If you have the money to immigrate, do
research and proper planning you will not regret one bit.

I agree with your post. 200k is very poor for a family of 3 putting the cost of feeding, rent, groceries, entertainment, etc.

To live a comfortable life in Lagos, you must live close to where you work, earn 500k above or have multiple streams of income.

Any other thing asides from that na rat race, little wonder why most people come to lagos, enrich jagaban for 20 years and return to the village with nothing to show for it.

If you have money to move to canada, please do.

If a big brother i know that worked with one of the telcos with over 10+ years experience and investments in Nigeria moved to Canada, odi woro si woro.

You must not sell African food and even if you do, it will net you more money then here. Indians and Chinese migrate to the same countries with no money and still start billion dollar companies. The opportunities in the west are immense and the koko is that westerners have the money to patronise your goods and services. Nigerians don't have money. It's why many western companies don't want to come here and the few present are leaving. Doing business in a poverty stricken nation like Nigeria can never be compared to the west. Out of 200 million Nigerians only like 10 million have money. A village in Canada with like 30000 people has more purchasing power than the whole northern part of Nigeria.

You like talking carelessly,Are you an indian or chinese?
These are people that have built dynasties in their homes that go to the west to go and expand their business operations, who come with a lot of money and you dare compare yourself to them?
So you think chagoury brothers came to Nigeria empty handed without no back up?
Do you know what a billion dollar company is,cos the way you are talking you have no idea.
You have to sell what the market wants in any market, that is what real businessmen do,not being emotional in business.

Not everyone must do a white collar job. I dont just understand the craze of Nigerians and white collar jobs.

An elevator technician / mechanic makes about 400K CAD per annum, there are blue collar trade jobs that can make you live a comfortable life with investments.

Iranians in Canada are deep into the trucking business. They go to canada, learn how to drive heavy duty trucks, get certified, invite thier relatives...wash rinse and repeat till they pull the whole family out of generational poverty.

Nigerians should do the same aswell in the food business or other blue collar trades.

My 2 cents !!

Bros Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world. Nigeria with a population of 200 million people has more peoole living in extreme poverty than India of over one billion people. Over 80 percent of Nigerians earn less than one dollar a day. Only 7 percent of Nigerians have a monthly wage of above 100k which is just around 250 USD. Do not underestimate the poverty in Nigeria. Just because a few people have looted the country to oblivion does not mean the majority of Nigerians are enjoying. As for Indian billionaires there are a lot, read about Harry Singh. Read about the British Indian guy who started eurocarparts. There's so many successful Indians who migrated to the west with absolutely nothing and went on to build billion dollar companies. A lot of Indians are also heading top successful companies globally.

I

So for your mind you don do research like this? With one persons opinion or maybe 2 or 3?
First Indians usually give negative remarks about Canada based on their package and CV full of lies.
We're Africans, a Nigerians experience may not really vary from other black Africans but what we should always consider is HOW DID HE OR SHE COME? What have they done since they came? How have they improved themselves? How liberal are they to be willing to blend into the Canadian system and accept their culture? Alot of factors determine your success or failure.
For me, my immigration to Canada must happen, but hey, immigration shouldn't be the goal else when you land you're not motivated to do anything.
Right from here I have made so much research and have a solid plan that as soon as I land in Canada I'm running with it, it will definitely take a some time but one thing I'm very very sure of is I'LL BE SUCCESSFUL in Canada.

Most important, and I think I read it In the screenshot, WRITE YOUR OWN FATE
