I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I stopped believing in God finally last year. I grew up in a very religious Christian family, but I became an unbeliever after analysing religion. I'm the only one living with my mother and few weeks ago she engaged me in a discussion about why I'm allowing the devil use me, I told her the Devil is not using me as I don't believe in him either. I went on to carefully explain to her why I think God probably does not exist and even if he does,there is no way to ascertain that Christianity is the right religion amongst other thousands of religions. Honestly I wasn't trying to get her to stop being a Christian or anything I was just trying to let her understand my stand because she has been worried for a long time. That night around 1am I woke up from sleep to hear her crying, I tip toed to her room and saw her kneeling down praying and crying uncontrollably she was actually praying for me and for God to reveal himself to me. Seeing her cry hurt me a lot and I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. Waking up the next morning I noticed she didn't do her normal morning devotion and prayers. I wasn't happy with the development but I ignored her. She came back in the night and still didn't pray. I had to reluctantly ask her why she was no more praying, she coldly replied me saying "Shea you said prayer doesn't work and there is no God" and she walked away. I've been really really upset because I know she can't actually do without religion. This is what she has known all her life, she's a Sunday school teacher. She needs religion because her life is centered on it. My father died Early this year and I'm due to go for NYSC by next month. pls how do I resolve this situation cos it breaks me to see her so sad and dejected and it might be worse when I leave. Should I pretend to have had an encounter with God or something. I really could use some advice here. If you don't have any just avoid the thread.

there is no weird thing I'm doing, I just don't join her in morning prayers, I go about my normal life. I'm not even an immoral person because naturally I don't like waywardness. I never tried to impose my unbelieve on her. I think what I'll do is talk to her and tell her that religion is not really a bad thing, and maybe look for some advantages of religion to back it up.

Your being good does not make you better than true Christians because what qualifies them is not their good deeds but a higher and greater sacrifice which is Christ's Righteouness. So, you relying on your self righteosness which is a filthy rag according to God, only sets you under them until you accept Christ and all he did for you on the cross. and that is the true repentance I'm talking about.

Now making a brethren ( your mum) backslide is a double sin and punishment for you.

If you want to learn about Christ through a former atheist you can search for Dr. David Wood on YouTube. His channel is more exposing Islam and Muhammed but does create content for atheists too.

As for your mummy, leave her first and focus on your disbelief, she will be fine. Don't just exhibit your act of disbelief in her presence.

Huh? What was your objective analysis based on for you to arrive at this conclusion?

It being long since I watched the so called "debate".

When SilverNorGold said MH won the debate, I told him that David Wood won instead.

Here is my analysis on the show.

The topic was Tahweed and Trinity (both concepts are some how difficult to dive into I think thats why they chose that topic).

If you are the type that does analysis on topics you would know MH did not address most of what David Wood raised during the session. Hijab was not debating he was just ranting and raging, his responses or let me say replies were on attack on Islam, he did not talk more on tahweed.
Hijab knew that he will never win debating logically with David as it has seen in the past debates. So, this time he went rough/verbal attack and make some illogical statements on the podium. He is inconsistent, claiming the other side is embarrassing, claiming that there are other interpretations of Arabic that only he understands. His arguments are convincing only to Muslims who recognize the arguments he references. A muslim is deeply impressed by all the quranic knowledge of the muslim apologist, especially if he is able to mix a lot of Quranic Arabic through his plea. He personally attacked David Wood instead of refuting his points.
He created an atmosphere with his silly fans that made many including you think he won. For example, David Wood asked him: Allah and his angel prayed FOR the prophet. Whom did Allah pray to?
Muhammed hijab replied: I know this is coming. Read the correct translation.
Allah and his angel prayed FOR the prophet not TO the prophet. The moment he read the supposed correct translation the incessant cheering from the his fans for one party was embarrassing. Sensible and logical person would know he didn't refute David Wood.

David Wood is a great debater he has great knowledge of quran and hadith. He is not afraid to debate anyone. It is perhaps for this reason that Dr. Zakir Naik has refused to debate him.

Can you drop some of the things you think made him (MH) win?

it's a bit long story. But in summary I introduced her to the Grace version of Christianity as opposed to the old school assemblies of God doctrines that she's used to, I used scriptures because I know them well, took her to house on the Rock church, she admitted she enjoyed the cool tushed up environment and people dressing nicely and the fact that they keep to time, so she now feels like she's been released from a cage of assemblies of God and their outdated difficult doctrines and lifestyle and feels she's now under grace bla bla bla. I'm cool with that.
