I'm curious though. How good are the rates?

Why do Nairalander patronize all these fiverr and upwork dollar to naira exchangers?

The exchange rate is rubbish. Upwork still uses 364. It is caused by Nigerian banks. They are criminals.

With Upwork you can get your money paid straight to your local bank account. Nigerians who also work remotely for companies abroad get their payments straight to their local bank accounts.

This is what I was talking about. They are looking for a Shopify expert yet the job has no applicants. Upwork still shows less than 5 for no applicants. They even paid so the job can be posted for more freelancers to see yet nothing.

How many people here can build a custom Shopify theme from scratch?

Bro, this phenomenon is not peculiar to the tech industry, discretion is actually encouraged in businesses to prevent saturation. Most rich and successful people attained their financial standing by acting on a classified info/industry before it hits satiety(nothing stays hidden forever).

A couple of years back, some group of Nigerians made a ton of money from Upwork, fiverr, and other similar platforms because that info was not within reach of everybody, heck, at the time, getting jobs on those platform was a walk in the park because the available jobs outweighed the supply of freelancers. After a couple of years because of the deluge of participants on those platforms, the registration process became stricter and getting jobs got harder.

Bro, if you desire unprecedented wealth, you have to protect your TRADE SECRET, its just how the world works.

may God bless u for this piece

I started this thread because of the other thread a nairalander made about monetizing his skills.

Most people who learn programming start this way. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React or angular or Vue and Node or python and Django. This are all great technologies but there aren't any easy to make money with. Getting a job with the MERN stack nowadays isn't easy. Node only powers 0.9 percent of websites globally and yet everyone wants to learn it. Hng internship everyone wanted Nodejs. 90 percent of the tech industry still uses relational and MySQL databases yet people are killing themselves over nosql databases like MongoDB and of recently graphql.

If you look on the freelance market, Upwork, Fiverr, freelancer et al and also look at the general job market you would see that there aren't that many opportunities for those stacks. The thing that gives people money, the things a junior developer can start to use to put money in their pocket isn't taught. Go and look up WordPress plugin development from youtube and there's just like two videos that explain the process. If you really want to get deeper into that, get ready to read your eyes out on the WordPress documentation. It's also the same thing with WordPress theme development. Magento is also another hot area. The largest E commerce platform in the world yet it's not taught anywhere. Shopify isn't also taught anywhere. Shopify uses liquid as its own programming language base. When was the last time you heard about this or saw anyone teaching or using it. Even the resources to learn these stuffs are very scanty.

I am presently working on a Shopify website and instead of coding a review page, I recommended to the client that we buy an app that does the same thing from the Shopify store. Would you believe a Shopify app which is basically just a JavaScript touch carousel that displays your reviews on your home page has 5 dollar monthly subscription with more than 10000 users. The theme the client is using. I had to rewrite most of the CSS. He bought it for 200 USD. I wonder how the theme was even accepted on Shopify. I mean this guys are banking low key and this are technologies no one talks about or even looks at. Everyone is MERN stack, MERN stack. If you mention WordPress they fit kill you or remove your head. Why does the tech industry hide where people can make money from men?

the truth is we are all guilty of following trends, all u said are true, I hated php without knowing why.

It's called shinning object syndrome and we are all guilty of it.

Adam Wathan a backend developer who once worked with Taylor Otwell on Laravel had to quit his job to focus on Tailwindcss, a css framework, because he was making so much money from it.

That is why it's good to know fundamentals though, if you know php as is, you'd be able to tackle any framework or package, so far its php.

I do wonder why people go into AI directly in Nigeria without the knowledge of web or mobile app development, wetin you go dey chop before your AI job comes?
First OP I need your contact, we've met on different thread discussing things like this and I can say you are hundred percent right. Let me say walai I am sure of my django and nodejs skill I learnt these things I know my way around them, but I haven't seen much jobs in them the last interview I did the interviewer told me that because of my vast knowledge he's willing to employ me if I can brush up my Laravel up in two weeks I agreed, but NYSC Bleep things up, remember I am a Django/Node developer o. I have a guy that specifically called my number from LinkedIn to offer me ruby on rails / shopify with travel option SA and I won't pay a dime, but they need senior ruby dev, I wasn't qualified my friends are also stuck with node... The last job that gave me 50k in 2days about two weeks ago is WordPress. I don't know how compose this thing but I hope people are getting the point. M now back to my first love PHP/LARAVEL/WORDPRESS and VUE.

As in bros. Me I dey learn WordPress back to back now. I am almost done building my first WordPress theme for learning sake but I am devoting the rest of the year to learning WordPress and Shopify inside out. Poverty no go shame us O. You might wanna change Vue for React. React is still very much in demand and you can even use React with WordPress.

I do hope this thread will be an eye opener to those who hate PHP and other tech they consider old for no reason.

I'm going to create a separate folder for this thread.

I checked out Ruby some minutes ago, it's has has similarities with python and PHP.

Ruby on Rails was the first framework to implement MVC architecture beautifully, Django and Laravel are like duplicate of Ruby on Rails but in another language.

Greetings bro !

I am taking an online course on SQL. The glitch now is how to import data from PostgreSQL into ValentinaDB for practice.

I have successfully installed both softwares from reliable source but data import is where I'm lost.

Your assistance will go a long way.
