Is an I-20 received far in advance useful? For instance, I assume those resuming in August 2021 will start going for visa interview by April 2021. So why would a school give one an I-20 by November 2020?

Good evening everyone, Please has anyone who applied for an expedited appointment in Lagos last week gotten any response yet? Or does anyone have a new information about expedited appointments?

If you've been denied, come here and say so then share your transcript for others to learn from it.

I’m not sure there is anything for others to learn from it cos I didn’t really know the reason for the denial Which is why the procedure in getting the expedited appointment is more important to me at the moment. But there you go

Visa Denied.

VO: Hi Pls pass your documents the way it was arranged for you
Me: Hi. Good morning. (Passes them)
VO: where are you going to?
Me: University of Illinois
VO: what are you studying:
Me: Masters in finance
VO: finance you say?
Me: yes please
VO: why did you pick this school
Me: it has a graduate public service internship programme. (Then I went ahead to explain how the programme benefits me)
VO: okay where do you work presently
Me: I told him
VO: how long have you been there
Me: About 3 years; precisely 2years and 9months.
VO: who is sponsoring you
Me: My dad
Have you travelled before
Me: No; I haven’t had a reason to
VO: Married?
ME: No
VO: any kids?
Me: No.

VO: okay I won’t be issuing your Visa. I wish you best of luck.

This is the most useless Transcript I've read the whole year. Who forced you to share your Transcript if you won't give out useful information like others did. So useless and selfish. Bleep University, University of Bleep. Nonsensical. I work at xxxx. No information given whatsoever.

To even imagine i went to Google Bleep University makes me sick. So selfish

If you can be stingy with little information like this, only God knows how stingy you will be with the other department grin grin grin

RubyPrincess:

Visa Transcript as requested.

VO: Hello, Good morning
Me: Hi Good morning
**he looked at my I-20 and said**
VO: So Bleep University? Why Bleep university?
Me: I chose Bleep University because based on my research, I found that the school ranks in the Top 100 schools in the US and...
**he interrupts me**
VO: Why not the other 99?
Me: Because Bleep university gave me a partial scholarship.
VO: where did you do your Undergrad
Me: University of *******
VO: Okay.. cool. So Are you married?
Me: No
VO: Any children?
Me: None
VO: where do you work?
Me: I work at *******
VO: Okay... so who is going to be sponsoring your education?
Me: I have been working for over xx years now and I have saved up a size-able amount to sponsor my education. Also, my mom is going to support me financially.
VO: what does your mom do?
Me: she does ******* and *******
VO: Okay. Can I have your bank statements?
Me: (handed it over to him… they were my personal bank statement as my i-20 said self-sponsorship)
(He looked it over for a while, points at something to show a colleague, returns it...)
VO: Have you ever been outside Nigeria before?
Me: Yes I have
VO: Where have you been?
Me: I have been to the UAE and I was also in Singapore last year.
VO: What did you go to do in Singapore?
Me: I went on vacation.
VO: Why Singapore
Me: after seeing the movie Crazy Rich Asians, I have always wanted to visit Singapore to see the sites.
VO: Okay cool!
(Types into the computer...)
VO: Okay, I’ll be granting you your visa. Please proceed to....
(i honestly wasn’t listening at this point But I already knew the drill based on previous transcripts)

Tips
Pray for favor!
Prepare well! Do mock interviews with friends...
Get there 1hr before the time. (I stayed in a hotel close to the embassy the night before)
Put on comfortable shoes.

If you need possible questions to prepare you, please reach out to me here.

It is not for you to prepare to lie or arrange your story ooo.. no! It’s just to be better articulated and coherent when you’re in front of the VO. Cuz those nerves!!! so they don't embarrass you.

All the best guys!!!

The place you were asked: Why did you pick the school is the major question. Your starting doesn't really look perfect. Other things you Said might be good in your own hearing but might not be perfect too. Maybe you should do mock interviews with people next time. You will sureply get it by the grace of God.
Lest I forget! You should have avoided saying internship. Internship means you are working and most internships come with possibility of post study employment. Even though, they have, you should have avoided it for the sake of a "NON IMMIGRANT VISA". So, that you don't make them to suspect you. But at latter end, you shall have it, by the grace of God.

It’s now very common for people to paste a rubbish visa transcript just for people to congratulate them without passing any information. If this type of people get key to heaven, they will enter heaven and fling the key away for nobody to come in.

This is why someone asked that you share your transcript but you have already assumed your interview Had no faults, your response to why this school is the reason for your denial. Internship screams you are going to work. The Vo’s are more concerned if you will come back after school. But you went saying they offer internship and worse you had no funding I presume. I pray you get a date to another appointment but you have to prepare more by sleeping on nairaland and see how the gurus have helped with answers. Goodluck

Well you’re actually very wrong . I am currently a student of one of those schools and my reason for coming here was the internship , my roommate and most of my friends gave the same exact reason and we’re all granted visas. I benefited a lot from this platform before coming here and I posted my transcript here about a year ago. Something else which we do not know might have gone wrong. Before that let us not discourage people by jumping to unknown conclusions. God bless ❤️

Public service internships do not come with post employment opportunities because state governments agencies cannot file for you . But I like how you replied the person in question .

You’re right I might probably be wrong but again the fact you and your roommates got it doesn’t mean it will work for everyone. Every vo is different. I still think why this school was the reason for the denial. I am not a guru but i started reading nairaland from part 12 and with what I have read and answers to give, what works for A might not work for B.or maybe funding was also an issue. Like I said I am no guru so maybe fairheart can give an insight.

My point still remains, you do not know the exact reason for refusal, you just have an opinion. And I’m not saying it should work for the person, I just gave a valid point to prove your point wrong because you sounded so sure. But bless your soul. Love and light

very poor bro, there's a lot of flag here,
1. You have not travelled out before, you have to convince the VO you really want to study and not abscond but your reply to why did you pick the school look so weak.

2. You are working and your dad is sponsoring you, at least try to have some cash in your own account abs then tell him you have saved for a while but your dad will be complimenting the rest.

3. Seem over-confidence play key key, why do I feel you were not humble talking to the VO, you were 100% sure he will give it to you because of your dad statement of account, yo its not your account but your dad..... Work on this and go back to take your visa. Best.

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by jhidey08(m): 6:33am On Nov 03, 2020
zeeLady:

So for those asking if Abuja embassy is granting emergency VISA appointment even if you are not within the stipulated 60 days of your start date, the answer is YES. YES.

Go and book the normal 2021 date you see there,
Then the option for emergency appointment will pop up for you,
fill the form and include your reasons for wanting emergency appointment,
Attach your 1-20
Attach your SEVIS payment receipt
Submit
They will get back to you within days
The earliest I just booked for someone was Nov 23rd.
Goodluck!

Please I have already filled an emergency appointment request form for Lagos with no response yet, can I still go ahead and request for another emergency appointment here in Abuja?

Hello. Please could you post the email address?

Secondly, what are your thoughts around booking an emergency appointment in Abuja when you have already sent a mail to Lagos with no response yet.
If Lagos calls and theirs is faster, would you be able to cancel the Abuja application considering they are 2 different locations and Abuja will be shown on the dashboard?
Pls assist if you have any information around this

So I had to say he was funding because my I-20 says that and it would be contradictory to say he is supporting. Maybe I could just say mine would be a support for menial expenses.

All points noted. Gracias.

Maybe! I'm just of the opinion that internship somehow screams "you will work". Most of this VO are not familiar with all the about 1,500 universities in USA. They are familiar with common trends like GA, stated amount of fund (NOT as some stated on his I20- 50% funding...I think you remember the post: It confused even the VO himself...). You should familiarize with common and acceptable things rather than ambiguous terms!!! The VO might not have time to think through for you...
It's my prayer that the person will make it next time, in Jesus' name. Amen.

I don't think this transcript is complete. I feel there are other things you didn't include.
Once a VO asks who's sponsoring and you state the person, the next question is what does the person do? That question is always a must and that's the part VO denies visas a lot.
