FRSC To Carry Guns – House Of Representatives by valentineuwakwe(op): 8:57am On Nov 06, 2020
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) operatives will begin to bear firearms to curtail the excesses of road users in Nigeria.

The House of Representatives Committee made the disclosure during the corps’ 2020 budget performance and 2021 budget defence, on Thursday in Abuja.

The Chairman, Akinfolarin Mayowa, explained that the 1992 Act of FRSC allowed the corps to carry guns, NAN reports.

Mayowa said the implementation had become necessary to ensure laws were obeyed and to allow the FRSC function effectively.

He disclosed that the committee would meet with Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and also write to President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the Act.

A member, Solomon Maren, added that the committee would discuss the matter with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The lawmaker said there were more risks on the roads, adding that the FRSC should now bear arms.

FRSC Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, decried incidents where motorists threatened personnel on duty.

Oyeyemi stressed that weapon bearing for protection would curtail violent road users and protect officers.

He confirmed that the corps has 280 formations, with presence in nearly all the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

When you guys were busy running after Buhari and Tinubu in 2014, 2015, you obviously did not see this coming.

I am not at all surprised with anything that happens in this government.

A government that takes pleasure in shooting unarmed protesters, be it IMN, IPOB or ENDSARS
Re: FRSC To Carry Guns – House Of Representatives by Racoon(m): 9:06am On Nov 06, 2020
shocked When Nigerians are yet to curtail the excesses & extra-judicial atrocities by SARS? Scrap FRSC & merge them with the police.
Re: FRSC To Carry Guns – House Of Representatives by CookingPot(f):
FRSC that is supposed to be scrapped. There is absolutely nothing they do that can't be done with upto date computer data base, proper documentation and speed camera detectors.

When we should be deliberating on reducing nuisance you are arming it. Those you armed are still caught up in various extra judicial killings

Atlas9:
Exactly. They don't excel at doing what road SAFETY corps should do. They excel at agbero stuff. The idea of stopping motorists at risk of life and limb is far outdated. Just register each car and have a direct debit annually. No vehicle will be unregistered, and if the ownership changes, simply deregister the car.
Plus, the direct debit means the funds generated go directly into the government coffers.

IF THEY MEAN TO ENDANGER OUR LIVES, MAKE LIFE HARD OR UNBEARABLE FOR US THE CITIZENS, BACK TO SENDER!

I do not blame the policy makers (government) that have made themselves demigods, I blame the citizens that fail to realise that power belongs to them.
This is an oppressive regime that must be stopped. The class of politicians we have in Nigeria at all levels are selfish, anti-progressive and anti-citizen. If we do not chase them away, they'll kill us all

ROAD SAFETY TO NOW CARRY GUNS

On what grounds please? We're trying to control guns given to the police and now FRSC is about to be given guns as well?

To do what exactly?

I think guns should be legalised in Nigeria then.

Hehehehehehe....This is one chaotic country.

Police are still crying that they were being killed like chicken. I pity FRSC. I remember one woman whose perishable food items were seized cos driver didn't roger.
Her goods spoilt as they held the car for days. Her capital lost. The elderly woman swore to diabolically make them regret what they did to her and called out their names astonishingly.

Her goods could have been released
They had nothing to do with the car but they chose to be that wicked.

Problem isn't with only the NPF.
The corrupt system is everywhere.
Give them guns o...but just know that when push comes to shove, their own story will be worse than NPF.
Navy, NIS and NDLEA needs to be studied even with guns, they are well trained.
