IGP Adamu Seeks N24.8bn To Fuel Vehicles, Motorcycles by dre11(m): 6:05pm On Nov 11, 2020
The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, on Tuesday said the Force would need N24.8bn to fuel its fleet of vehicles and motorcycles in a year.

He said this when he presented the 2020 budget performance and and defended the 2021 budget proposal before the House of Representatives Committee on Police.

Adamu said the police was being bogged down by the low envelope budgetary provisions.

“The implication is that under an ideal situation, the amount that has been reviewed cannot meet up with the requirement of policing the country.

“If you take for example, the daily fuel consumption for our vehicles; vehicles that have petrol engine take about N22.5bn to fuel it within the year.

“The motorcycles we have will require N834.4m to fuel. And those vehicles using diesel will require N4bn to fuel.

“So, if you compute this, with what has been proposed, fuel alone will take the chunk of the money that has been budgeted not to talk of maintenance. If we’re to maintain our vehicles and motorcycles, it’ll take about N8.04bn in a year,” he said.

He said the security issues, especially in the northeast and other parts of the north, affected the police entire operations coupled with other unanticipated crises like COVID-19 pandemic and destruction of police stations, commands, vehicles and other properties during the EndSARS protests.

He disclosed that, the 2021 budget estimate for the police was N469.4bn, but was scaled down to N449.6bn.

The chairman of the committee, Usman Bello Kumo, said: “There is no way the police as the biggest security outfit that mans the internal security of the country can be run with N11bn capital for 12 months in a financial year.”

Half of the budget will be looted... I wonder why they need 450Billion in a year when they arent buying guns, equipments and armored cars nor recruiting new policemen in 2021.. what's the budget for?

Thieves, Nigeria police is something else. After giving them such a budget, they will send their boys to the roads to be collecting bribes.

Instead of giving them such huge amount of money to embezzle, why can't the government just allocate designated petrol stations for all police and other government agencies to be filling up for free on a regular basis. That way there will be better accountability and less loopholes for mismanagement of resources.

There are plenty crooks in police, They would collect such considerable amount of money for fueling their vehicles and still going to extort innocent civilians.

It's only reasonable if they will use the money for the intended purposes.

We have heard whistleblower officers complaining they personally buy their kits and fuel their operation vehicles.

Yarimo, your region is going down into destruction very fast. Your politicians are as corrupt as hell. Your region is under the control of bandits.

But here you are focusing on the peaceful protesters in the south, a peaceful protest turned to something else by politicians from your region who hired thugs to discredit the protest.

People in your region are so daft to think the purpose of the protest was to dethrone Buhari. What a bunch of empty headed fools!

If there is any sense left in your brain, you will focus on rescuing your backward region from bandits and corrupt politicians rather than focusing on the south.

I don’t think the money will be enough. They should give him 1.2 trillion Naira for fuel, you know things are hard now.
