With about 30% positive returns (gain) Year-to-date?

Which market is better then?
Leave these eggheads alone

GTB alone gave ROI of 50% in 3 months.

I know people that entered the market around March-April when the lockdown started and share prices fell.

Alot of them are cashing out now

First of all, I must admit that the op posted the post without first taking into account that majority of the people here will not understand what he was saying. It takes only stock traders and investors to easily grab what he was saying. In that regard, he failed, because he didn't break down enough for lay men to understand.

That said, let me help you understand what what he said...... . The simplest example to use is your Android phone. Observe when your phone gets over used , it will get hot and start hanging, to make it start working normal again, you either stop using it for the moment, or you simply restart or reset it.That is what "circuit breaker " is.

It is called so because the idea was taking from electrical technology as a response to often the activities of quant traders that often leads to stock market crashes. At that moment of resetting, current stops flowing and the heat gets reduced.

In the stock market, when for instance there is massive selling ( shorting of stock) which when left unchecked can trigger market crash, the market regulators can apply circuit breaker by halting any further trading activities for some moments in order for traders to reassess their position and market out look. This can help halt the craze and nake the market return to normalcy again. Just like your phone will start working properly again after you restart or reset it.
Thanks a lot this is brilliant but do they initiate the circuit breaker if the market is overbought like the market is promising.

Nig investment sector is wack with limited regulation. Intelligent market participants with good information can circumvent the system and gain undue advantage. Simply put. It is not efficient, informational and allocation.
It is better to keep quiet if you don't understand the message therein in the post.
How will circuit breaker be automatically activated if there is limited regulation.

The 5% mark was set to prevent gaining or loss of more than 5% per trading day/session. Meaning a share can only appreciate or depreciate a maximum of 5% of its value per trading session.

Who cares about your rigged stock exchange that doesn't obey the proper laws of demand and supply but rather the laws of corruption?!

Ode! So you have to express your stupid knowledge in that manner. Typical Nigerian. You are too blind to see the big picture of the cause of the circuit breaker. A well-regulated market will not need all these life-saving techniques. What am I even discussing with a numbskull like you. If you want to learn finance you may contact me.

Olodo! Not a share, it is the whole market (all share index). A share can go above 5% even upto 10% without circuit breaker tripping but it is all share index( summation of all equities shares) being explained here. When it reaches over 5 % circuit breaker switches trips doesn’t mean that it still can’t go further. However, for today still went 6.23%

It has no general implication on the economy. It is simply a mechanism to protect investors in the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Yes, that was exactly what happened today. The market was rising very fast, they have to halt it and restarted it.

You owe lots of truth to your self, if you like say what you like it is a fact Nigeria stock exchange is a mess and anyone can see it. Economy self na zero, for the fact one or two or 3 top business in the country is doing well doesn't mean the NSE is doing well. You have no idea blah, blah blah is too irrelevant to start with.

No mind them Abeg, one is even say resetting it to normal. Something investors are trading, buying shares and bonds 247, should reset just like that, it is not regulated.

The NSE has called attention to itself. Big corporations will use this opportunity to lock in profits. The little guys will jump in with the euphoria of bullish market near term because of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and get wiped out long-term. Don’t buy at the top of the market. Common sense.
/
Go and lock in profits what are you waiting for? Hahaha
