Stanbic IBTC Bank has been appointed sole financial adviser to the Lagos State government on the proposed Lekki-Epe International Airport project to be

developed on a modular basis at an estimated project cost of N71.64bn ($450 million) in its first phase.

Situated about 10km from Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the proposed airport will boost economic activities at the LFTZ scheduled to begin full operations in 2012. It will also drive urban development and tourism in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

A scalable airport that will be designed to cater for the Airbus A380, making it a Code F compliant airport, the Lekki-Epe International Airport is expected to commence operations with a conservative capacity of two million passengers per annum, reaching five million passengers by 2015.

Commenting on the airport project, Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Sola David-Borha, said the project reinforces the bank’s long standing partnership with the Lagos State Government in the area of infrastructure development, which is informed by the knowledge that infrastructure is the foundation on which socio-economic development is built.

As part of the competitive tender process for the construction of the Lekki-Epe International Airport, Stanbic IBTC Bank has made available Request for Pre-Qualification (RFPQ) to 33 Nigerian and international firms who have indicated interest to participate in the ambitious project.

The companies had earlier submitted Expression of Interest (EOI) in August 2011, bidding for the project under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The RFPQ provides the bidding companies with guidelines for the submission of a Statement of Qualification (SOQ) which highlights their technical, operational and financial capability to design, finance, build and operate the Lekki-Epe International Airport, before its transfer to Lagos State Government at the expiration of the concession period.

NAHCO Aviance, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited and Cappa D’Alberto Plc, are among the 20 Nigerian companies that have been provided with the Request for Pre-Qualification.

They will compete against 13 international firms that includes Munich Airport Germany, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co Limited and Canadian Commercial Corporation, among others, for the development of the first phase of airport project.

Our foolish optimism is what has got us to where we are as a nation, "where we celebrate plans to build this, plans to pay salary etc"

How long were they supposed to take in building the lekki FTZ zone and how long has it taken with nothing to show?
How long were they supposed to take in building the lekki epe expressway and how long has it taken with nothing to show but toll gate?

It's only the most incurable optimist that will believe that this airport will be delivered while Fashola is Governor.

This Lagos state Government is a SCAM. I won't be surprised if the whole idea is make the land prices in those areas go up especially now that their Lekki FTZ has not been able to sustain the high prices of the land in places like ABIJO GRA, lekki Scheme 2.

^If it is the FG that is proposing this, like the electoral promise of an airport in ever state, I wont even bother to read.

But Lagos has been known over the years to follow through every project they announced, or show me one project Fashola has ever announced that he has not followup with actions

And take note of Lagos projects, they come with expected date of completion unlike FG announcement of blueprints/roadmaps with no dates.

What does "to commence operation by 2012" mean?

Is there an airport there now - Yes or No?

Has construction started or finished - Yes or No?

Do we need "spin" to acknowledge what is a good development - Yes or No?

I think it was a misquote, I think he meant to say commence construction by 2012. I just dont see how its possible to build an international airport from virgin land in just 4 months.

Musiwa,

No matter what people say about you, I think you are talented. Don't let anyone stop you, you have much more to contribute.

musiwa7: this spot, i think should be where the airport should be. i pick out 2 spot.. for many reason.. You can see, how long it takes to drive there.. and the reason too is because in 10 years,, lagos will expand and we need to plan for traffic from the airport.. and this two spot will attract customers from ogun state.. And it is about 35 minutes drive from the MMA.

there is also a bridge at epe.. But you will need a 2 km bridge across the river. And if the plane will crash. it will crash into the lagoon and not the ocean.. that way many people can be safe by fishermen on that lagoon..

that location will attract many people to move there from the mainland and will attract factories too.

i am picking the spot , also because of shoreline development which will take place over time..

I think the most important thing is to first of all build the runway.. and tower and leave the others like building for later. that way. lagos can quickly cut into the revenue the federal govt is making from the MMA airport offering the airline cheap rate than the federal govt..

Probably correct. From the article, the 2012 commencement date appears to apply to the LFTZ:

Situated about 10km from Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the proposed airport will boost economic activities at the LFTZ scheduled to begin full operations in 2012. It will also drive urban development and tourism in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

This is an eye opener to those waiting for FG to give them international airport in Enugu. Your governors should combine resources and do what benefits your people and your land. You go wait tire for FG.
