Your epistle is so long.........anyway a little question for you. How will a Professor make an innovation in your countries outdated and ill equipped laboratories and facilities. They should use thier saliva? You must have had a very bad experience in your days in higher institution or you to be so disgruntled with ASUU.

Your assumption about me is wrong, I expected you as engineer to be more intelligent and engage in intellectual conversation without resulted into insult but you disappointed me. Anyway, if I can use question to answer your question, how many of the modern equipment that government put in the lab can ASUU lecturers , technologists and professors handle or use well to teach students ?

Your ASUU lecturers only keep modern equipment in laboratories and workshops for accreditation purposes only, many of them can't use them to teach students because they lack industrial experiences. If some schools open their lab and workshops for you to see their equipment, you will be surprised why they are not using them to teach their students. You can't teach what you don't know. When ordinary school generator goes off, the so called ASUU lecturers/technologists with many titles will run away to call roadside repairers, but they will enter class to blow ordinary grammar on students and pass assignment.

Why should government keep wasting money over lecturers and professors that are not updating themselves on modern technologies and techniques of transferring knowledge, but only waiting to collect monthly salaries? What is the essence of professor that can not transfer useful knowledge he acquired over the years to younger generation before he died?

It is very hard in most schools and departments in Nigeria to see 4-competent, skillful and able-to-transfer skill lecturers in each of the Nigerian universities and departments today. They are the ones turning out unemployable and unskillful youths into our society today in large number due to their incompetence and this is indirectly causing increase in societal crime due to frustration from many unskillful graduates they are turning out.

Let them show government and organizations how they can manage little resources from government to turnout out skillful graduates into the society and innovative researches and see if government and organizations will not be happy to spend more. You can't lure organizations to waste it's hard earned resources on unproductive or directionless research that will not even benefit the organization. ASUU lecturers should sit up, change mode of recruitment and emphasize more on industrial experiences and ability to transfer knowledge, but less emphasis on journal publication and academic qualifications alone

Unfortunately, intelligence is not measured by your criteria, my 6 may be your 9, depending on where you stand. You and myself are at the opposite on this issue. It is all about what you and I know or do not know. I can see that you are outrightly misinformed. Which of the modern equipment is in the Laboratories of over 70 universities in Nigeria that your government put there. I am sure you are not a scientist....many of the technologies needed to develop innovations are not available in Universities and that is one of the issue raised by ASUU. Even the government did not deny this fact. The privileged ones among the lecturers at times send samples abroad for simple analysis that would have been done locally if our laboratories are well equipped.
For instance, most soil analytical methods and in Nigeria is outdated and this is due outdated and lack of analytical equipment. What do you expect the soil scientist to do in this regard? They should use thier blood?
Yes government should provide the basics and see if our researchers will not prove their selves. Meanwhile I agree with you about emphasis on industrial experience ability to transfer knowledge in addition to ability to formulate developmental and problem solving research as criteria for recruitment and promotion but the enabling environment must be created.

Nobody can ever satisfy human needs! And each father will give to his sons and daughters based on his capacity, we are saying that let ASUU justify little they get from government first and see how organization and government will be motivated to do more. ASUU is selfish, even other unions in the universities are not usually in agreement with them. They should allow government during accreditation see true picture of what they are lacking in laboratories and workshops so government can provide them instead of doing eye-service when NUC accreditation panel visit schools

They only like fronting 'they are fighting for quality education' while the main demand is about their benefits. Are you from Jupiter or another planet that you are not aware that some school get some modern equipment that many ASUU lecturers and technologists can not even operate? Off course, no government or parent will provide or meet all needs due to scarcity of funds, but little they have, let's see how best they can use them.

Believe me, many our so called ASUU lecturers can not even supervise undergraduate project well, many of them use idea, many Atimes, they speak out of points because they never had industrial experiences. Many of them were only lucky to get lecturing jobs after failing many industrial interviews to secure jobs in corporate organizations while some were retained to lecture because they obtained first class which is not suppose to be so, so many are lacking industrial skills.

Getting first class doesn't mean you can teach, several factors can contribute to while some get first class while others do not. Some have up to four scholarships while other brilliant guys had to work to support their full time education. Getting first class without industrial experiences and ability to teach even the dullests should never be allowed to teach in our institutions, they can be pushed into research, but not teaching.

Education at tertiary level should be restructured to become more functional for us to stop turning out unemployable and unskillful graduates on yearly basis. With this alone, crime will decrease because more students will be able to standalone after graduation and even become employer of labours. Imagine ASUU lecturers of computer science and other technological courses in Nigeria today.

You can't be teaching computer students only programming to solve quadratic equation, matrices, average of two numbers, factorial etc level-to-level in our contemporary societies and expect them to standalone after graduation, even those simple programs, many ASUU lecturers can not write them without checking books many times despite well equipped computer labs and resources at their disposals

Very valid point.

Not in all cases.
