Factors to consider

1. Cost of car - surely 5000£ is too small if your car is a 2020 Aston Martin.
2. Age of driver
3. Profession of driver
4. How long have you had your license for?

Lexusgs430:

If i am fortunate enough to buy an Aston Martin 2020, my policy would not exceed £620 a year (fully comprehensive)............. grin

Because you scored high marks on points 2,3 and 4

Before you buy any vehicle, get an insurance quote on your international licence......

Thanks. Please can you recommend a small SUV or hatchback cars that I can get below 8K. Something with at least a good interior.

You will need to be qualified to practice in your home country, and this is because a 'Letter of Good Standing' is required by the GPhC from the regulator in your home country.

Sounds really awesome

Any specific detail they would demand?

If i apply for it and get now, does it have any expiration? Because I may not be renting my own apartment in uk until march

They will ask for the date you moved into your current address, and how many adults leaving with you. The certificate has a start and end date which corresponds to the duration of your program.

Admiral is a good one.. i got a quote for £754 for my first car. Increase your voluntary excess, reduce your annual mileage to like 4-5k and say it is for leisure and domestic only, parked in a drive way. Bla bla bla

Good morning all.

I am really happy to see that a lot of fellow Nigerians are relocating to the UK and doing very well for themselves. It's very refreshing to hear irrespective of the obstacles we face on our journey to success.

Having said that, I want to say that it is highly impossible for anybody to come from Nigeria or any other 3rd world country and in less than 2 years OWN a house or a brand new 2019/20202021 car. If you noticed, I placed a huge emphasis on the word 'OWN'. If you take a mortgage to buy a house or you are making installmental payments for the brand new car you bought, I am sorry, you do not own those properties and you have plunged yourself into debt. It can take more than 30 years to clear these debts. If something happens and you are not able to make the payments, they would be re-possessed immediately.

My advice for anybody coming on a tier 2 visa is to save and aim for (financial) stability. Getting a mortgage, buying brand new fancy cars, and making any unnecessary purchases within the first 2 years is really not ideal, in addition to all other monthly bills & taxes that will be paid. Use this time to build wealth, save, build a good credit e.t.c. If you end up losing the job and are not able to secure another one under the grace period you would be removed out of the country. Why not try to settle down and after 5 years of being under tier 2 status you would be eligible to apply for ILR which is one of the most stable statuses for immigrants as your stay will no longer be dependent on your work sponsor.

I think it is important for us not to give our country people the wrong impression of life here in the western world. I'm quite sure most of us might have had the experience of receiving phone calls to send money back home because they think we are living in heaven on earth. We are currently in unprecedented times, multiple jobs are no longer secure mostly due to the economic fallout of the pandemic. I can only say that the most secure jobs presently are GP & nursing jobs within the NHS.

Aiming for financial stability should be the objective.

Wishing everyone well as we all hustle in our own legitimate ways.
True.

If u didn't say this people would hv just fallen to the believe that you can buy a new house and expensive car in less than 2years of coming yo the UK.

I am also happy he clarified on it when he said he was paying the money on installments.

The UK is not as rosy as some people would want to mk u believe a lot of people just keep going based on the fact that its not their comfort zone.

To me you haven't gotten a permanent residency or citizenship but u are spending your Money on a new house and car what are u trying to prove.

I applaud your testimony but seriously think am na. If getting any of the above is not sth that is to your economic benefit maybe work purpose or u rent out the rooms what's the use.

If you have ur family with you its understandable.

I could be wrong though. U know best.

First of all, you need to

Apply for a provisional license
Apply for Theory test and pass it
Take some practical driving lessons to get familiar with the test
Apply for the practical test
Take the test, pass it and apply for license

Search for cars on here:

Autotrader
Facebook market
Shpock
Gumtree

Confused.com

Good luck

Only apply for a provisional licence if you don't intend to travel for a long while.
You need to send DVLA either your passport or BRP before you can get one issued, and they are seriously backlogged.

no matter how backlogged they are it doesn’t take more than 14days.

As at July/August, it took between 4-8 weeks (for those without a UK passport) due to the backlog from the 1st lockdown.
It was faster for UK passport holders because the picture/signatures from their UK passports were used.
Not sure what the current timeline is though.

So I got a feedback from my school that only full time students can be exempted
TRAY2:

Yes you are exempted from paying council tax, but you need to email your tax exemption certificate from your University to your council with your details. That is what i did, as i am in the same shoes with you, make i enjoy council tax freedom for one year at least. grin

here in northeast it only took two weeks to receive the one I did for a friend, a non British passport holder! I think it differs from one DVLA offices to another.

Thanks for this

DHL delivery charges is really high
They add the delivery + import duty

So I thought of using a coy In the shipping business to help receive in the USA and charge me per kg to ship to UK
Lexusgs430:

Why not just use normal post or DHL?..... It would arrive in under 7 days (but be prepared to be slammed an import duty fee)......

For phones you gave eBay/gumtree/FBMP etc etc...... Very risky though........

You could buy the phone legitimately, but a few weeks or months later, seller blacklists it.........

Best to spend £200 buying a new mid ranger, than £600 on a used flagship, that later gets blacklisted......... tongue

Well, I don't know if that's the case but you may have a point there. Most of the cases I know of applied in England and were processed by Swansea.
Anyway, anyone applying shouldn't have any immediate travel needs incase of processing delays (which may extend the 2-week turnaround) as TheGuyFromHR mentioned.
