Hello dear people of Nairaland! Please I want to make an enquiry about my project I am undergoing in Benin city from those of us who are good in engineering and site work.

I have a 3 bedroom and a two room self contain flat which is already on a DPC level and I done the forming after the filling with just one coach. I want to give the project to an engineer to finish the job just go paraphet level I.e he will be the one to do the paraphet.

The engineer is charging 2million Naira for just the labor. I will be the one to buy all the materials needed; all the cement, block, rod, wood etc. 2M is just for labor alone.

Please is this fair enough ? Is the price too high?

Please I need your urgent help.
Base on my experience on this site it is better you post your building plan. and the quotation he gave you. I believe 2 million is two much. My 5 bedrooms bungalow in Lagos from foundation to parapet is about #1million labor and 250k for supervision. since you have already done DPC and you are in Benin not Lagos. #1m should be enough

Good afternoon.

Apparently, the quoted amount is high as observed by other members of this platform.

However, it's advisable to post the working floor plan so that you can get fair advice based on the quantity of work to be done.

why not try some good offline engineers, real structural engineers with years of experience in the field and offcourse coren certified. Builders posing as engineers can be risky.

I’m likely to use this next week at OPIC Sparklight Estate.

Your numbers may not pan out regarding the way we finish concrete slab (German floor) in Nigeria. The basic and sometimes crude way we finish our german floor is the reason we use sand to level the floor before laying tiles.

You can't use adhesive (Superfix) on our german floor. The tile finish may come out a terrible uneven job.

For you to use adhesive, the floor must have been finished with a power trowel or a bull float (see photos) to straighten, level and polish the floor to receive the adhesive, not the rough concrete surface we are used to in Nigeria. Adhesive is most effective and economical when the floor is smooth and finished well.

If the floor is not well floated, it would mean you will use the adhesive (Superfix) as floor leveler instead of sand which might turn out not cheaper.

Errrm. My point is that if you're building in Lekki you cant afford not to have a structural Engr on the team.

There's no where in the world, anyone will be erecting a structure without a structural engineer's input in the design process and also making sure his structural specifications are implemented accurately.

If you are one, make yourself known, dont start yabbing us here because we are kobokobo builders.

Part of my job as a professional (Architect) is to educate clients and fellow industry professionals on industry best practices and not to "Yab" anyone. If you see it as such, then I'm sorry.

Except you want to remain a kobokobo contractor, you'll definitely want to upgrade your services and avoid being paid peanuts for your services.

There is alot in Nigeria, Baba Sule, Kofi, Chukwuma(Stainless), Amusin... Them plenty make i mention few from Abuja, Lagos, PHC, etc. Kofi travel pass, he is a structural, electrical, plumber, iron bender, Archy name it na Kofi be that. grin grin grin

Politians use them mostly... They only need an engineer to just sign in his air conditioner hotel room. You go fear whenn you enter Naija them be serious Nija.
