Do you think that is part of the reason corruption is rampant?Civil servants know during service they will be owed salaries and after service their pension and gratuity will never be paid and begin the vicious cycle of acquiring as much as they can to take care of their family unit for generations to come.

Or is corruption just down to outright greed to accumulate as much material wealth as possible.

I have never worked with government all my life, even my NYSC was private organization but I have been in close contact with the civil servant and I can say that corruption in civil service is made possible by the banks and bankers.

The first issue is that the take home is not taking them home also appetite for materialism like cars is second only to the Yahoo boys and politicians, hence majority of civil servant want some gratification before they can do what they are paid to do. The beaurucracy of moving files is a fertile ground, reducing human interface through technology will definitely reduce it.

The corruption among the Director cadre is gluttonic, they want houses in Abuja and in choice cities . They have seen how previous directors got away with it and want to upset their own stealing, and their colluding with ministers and bankers huge money gets away from government cofers. EFCC tried with whistle blowers but the incentive for whistle blowers was not coming through.
The problem is the people and the system. Bankers inform and educate them on how beat all the CBN red flags and bingo road is clear

What have you benefitted from the federal or state government since you were born?

The only thing I can think of since I came into the world as a Nigerian the government has provided is my passport. I realized my family unit was the government who provided:
Water-sunk a borehole and some miscreants sent by the local government once came to charge us water tax
Electricity- Used generator because NEPA/PHCN was unreliable.
Sewage Treatment - Had to dig our own pit to get rid of waste.
Security- Had three security guards protecting our house.
Education- Went to private school from nursery to secondary school.
Healthcare- Went to private hospital.
Unemployed- Beg family or friends for money.No social security payment from government.

Apart from electricity, sewage and security, you can get free education, subsidized healthcare and you can get a job if you want one

Many Nigerians benefited from Youwin, mortgage loans, free housing in government areas, npower and the rest government loans.

Stop acting like Nigerian government do not care about its citizens

Many state government schools are well built with free education and free books, even the federal schools are more standard than many private schools.

There is HMO, it is free or almost free.

If your unemployed in UK you get social security payment from the government. If you claim asylum in UK, you get monthly stipidends. They use money from foolish Nigerian looters to empower their citizens and asylum seekers.
