Wow, this is a good development, that agency responsible sure has people that are thinking, i think they should produce this solar grids in larger scale, more also Nigerian government can start partnering with this solar companies, in china, and also lithuim-ion battery manufacturing, what's the point of taking all that loan from china if we can't partner with them. 1 Like |

There is nothing to celebrate here if we look critically at the issues at stake. This is a federal project, meaning it has the backing of the federal government. Something that needs to be pointed out is that Buhari has not prioritised the building of gas fired power plants in the past 5 years that he has been president. Gas power plants are what we have that can cheaply provide enough power at affordable costs to meet the energy needs of the country. Can the people in this community now set up welding workshops or hair dressing saloons based on the electricity they now have? What is the essence of a project that can not spur much needed development and economic activities? These offgrid solar minigrids are waste of resources. The battery systems in the picture are based on lead acid batteries, in less than 3 years time those batteries will need to be replaced and by then no one will be interested in providing the funds for the replacement and the people will be back in darkness. Also the number of solar panels in the picture is inadequate to charge a 100kw system. So the system can not provide 100kw continuously. The lead acid batteries will be damaged if that system is run beyond 25kw continuously from what I can see in the picture. I will give that system 1 year to pack up due to insufficient float charging of the batteries. The solar panels numbers need to be increased. The question is why is Buhari not keen on building big gas powered electricity generation plants. Obasanjo started many power plants under the NIPP scheme, Jonathan completed many of them, the northerners were complaining that the NIPP power plants were in the south where the gas supply is and the projects should be stopped. Buhari has simply stopped further development of the NIPP projects just like the northerners were asking for, why are we cutting out noses to spite our faces? |

obama30: They know what they're doing. It will soon go moribund. And they will re-award another four or five contracts for its repairs, upgrades etc. Biodun556: Give it a rest. How you see governance says a lot about whether you know your rights or not. Even as a pilot test, it is doomed to fail otherwise the grid should've been limited to not more than the 20-25 houses it can optimally serve. Max, let's say 50 because such a community is not expected to have a plethora of electrical gadgets and advanced user consumption rates. But still, why provide something that'll serve that little and yoke it to so many? because it's a win: win for the state govt, the contractors, the REA agency and their other cronies come repairs, overhaul and upgrade time. Earthstorms: Leave these naive kindergartens hailing nonsense here, they can't see past their noses and slave-mentality. Rolling out the drums to thank FG for this crap! 1 Like |

Re: Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid: REA Electrifies Ogun State Community After 200 Years by Earthstorms(m): 7:10pm On Nov 30, 2020 |
obama30: You are not making sense. You want to sell an electricity generation system without disclosing the form of input energy? So what happens when your customer blindly give your money and you supply him with a nuclear power plant that he can not run. Anyway the cost of this project is not stated, so your claim that you can provide 2mw plant with 150% of a cost that is not stated is suspect already. The best you can do is stick a wind turbine for them, that is the only system that can be installed anywhere and last 25 years without fuel cost, apart from grid tied solar system. But that will cost you more than 2 million usd |
Re: Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid: REA Electrifies Ogun State Community After 200 Years by chiefkpokp(m): 10:56pm On Nov 30, 2020 |
Starzo: Yes very very reliable, your usage will determine if d battery will live long to 5years or 6yrs or not, agm batteries have a life cycles of 200-500, which will last u for 5-6yrs, if only u use 50-70% at most of the battery capacity, though we dont give warranty on agm/deep cycle batteries, but we do give 5yrs warranty for lifep04 batteries becos it's batteries have a life cycle of between 3500-5500 cycles which is between 13-16yrs but it's very expensive. Dual inverter compressor Ac will help ur system more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZuILKo8dE0 We have a lot of recent documentries on our youtube channel, plz subscribe. |

Earthstorms:The project will be sustainable if they're productive energy users who will use power during the day, while the battery bank takes care of load usage at night. The solar pv capacity is 100kw, so it can handle load of up to 30kw during the day conveniently. In these communities, they're encouraged to use more power during the day. There are lots of similar projects that are serving the communities for the past 3 years and counting |

chiefkpokp: if every house meter with 1KW per a day which is 1000wats for 24h, it means 41.66 watts to be use per hour, can you mention electronic item 41.66 wats can carry? not even ceiling fan which the lowest wattage is 50watts. my brother no matter how it share 100KW is too small for a community and not worthy to celebrate. |
Re: Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid: REA Electrifies Ogun State Community After 200 Years by chiefkpokp(m): 7:12pm On Mar 23, 2021 |
obama30: Thank you, Lg 16inch tv is 38w, 32inches @low volume is 40w. ........ For ur reference. Led bulbs is 5w,3w, since it's a community like village, we assume they won't use fridge or indusive loads, if u have a normal ceiling fans that 68w at high speed, the mid speed is 35w..... So tell me, do you mean to tell me that if u were giving electricity power and they tell u it's capped at 1000w daily...... Can u not manage it so that it's would serve u till d next day? |
Re: Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid: REA Electrifies Ogun State Community After 200 Years by obama30: 8:18pm On Mar 23, 2021 |
chiefkpokp: Any electricity calculation that minus fridge don't have any economic impact to consumer, the number 1 most important impact of electricity to consumer anywhere in the world is economy impact. the community may not need fan because the environment may not be hot to compare area that warm up by technology emissions. even with all your calculation is already above 41.66wats per hour. there's nothing to manage in 1KW electricity my brother. the average standard electricity to manage any where in the world in a single room apartment is 500 watts per hour. this is government project with Tax money not just poor man project. Because we always celebrate half baked bread that is reason its always given to society. the same way Disco don't calculate the average power to supply to community, sometimes they install 500KVA 220V 3 phase transformer to a district that has industries with not less than 700 houses, before you know it the transformer will trip off. and to community all they know is that there's light without knowing the quantity they get.
