Dear pilots
Is a tokumbo car really worth the price tag as I am planning to get one soon and also with the current foreign exchange market rate, and also going through the stress of registration and the necessary paper work.
How long will an average tokumbo take before it starts developing major faults and needing repairs from wear and tear.
What are the benefits of buying a tokumbo over a well maintained naija used car
And lastly, are tokumbo cars really buy and drive?, are they problem free as the are expected to be?, did you spend and any money on any fix after driving off the car stand?.
Thanks in advance for your help and contributions

My brother I can say it categorically from experience on the field and as an engineer with field experience as well... There is no 100% assurance on any automobile. Even tear rubber cars do have "errors" it could range from factory, mechanical, design, or any kind of error. So no 100% guarantee on any thing weather it is brand new, tokunbo or 9ja used.

On tokunbo, this is my take. I've been privilege enough to have used 3 tokunbo cars for ehailing.
First was a corolla, I think i was the either d 2nd or 3rd driver... The 1st week I started with the car I noticed problem and I got to understand the car was accidented. The problem with most Tok are dealers. And the only person I can recommended to anyone to buy a car from is my former boss in the person of Dru23.

I learnt some business integrity during my partnership with him. What he does is this. I will explain by sharing an experience.

There was a car (big daddy) his manager asked me to deliver to sb. As the car arrived, my Oga called his mechanic (Bishop) to check for any possible issue that might be on the car...he fix everything... I personally bought tires and fix on the car... He day car serviced with mobile 1 oil, washed, madam filled up the tank and car was delivered to the person. I was just wondering in my mind. To what end madam?! Shey Oga sabi dis person or abi na him family person?
Ha! Na so Oga dey do him tins ooh... Madam replied.

In a nut shell, most dealers are only out to make profit while some are out to make build a good reputation.

So most problems with toks are dealers, they're not sincere. A car came accidented fix it b4 putting it on stand, then be sincere to explain to any interested buyer how and how far you've gone with it. But for rhe sake of business which i understand though... Thats why me as I person I think I can be a successful trader because its not for sincere people grin

The 2nd.l too I used came with issues which I'm aware took if I'm correct almost 200k or more from my boss to fix to standard and some minor issues still persisted till...

My madam before she sold her personal car she changed two doors, painted the car and still sold at the same price.

The car I'm using presently, same issue car cane with from abroad is what we are still battling out...

Lastly, if you're lucky to get a good tok, trust me you start having one or two issues after 6-12months provided car is used for transportation but if its for private use probably 2-3yrs if you're sb with good maintenance culture 4-5yrs. But for transportation? Max is 12months.

As for 9ja used it depends, if car was company own, used and maintained. But if you buy from a poor man my brother there two things involve oooh...its either the car kills you or you kill the car
If the car kills you, you're save
But if you kill the car there also two things involve.

Dont ask megrin

Boss if they write ticket, do d receiver affirm to collecting the ticket or is there a way to justify that they have given him any ticket, just a learning process here. If my questions return as no, then he's yet to see any ticket, deh honestly did not give me anything.

He should follow my part2 explanation then never admit ticket was given to him. But if he has already gone to that canopy office he should then follow the 1st part which d due process because no body would be able to assist him again unless a lawyer as explained.

The reality out here is that drivers, especially ehailing ones, should try to obey every traffic law this season. Lastma, police are targeting us now with the dashboards flying upandan. Guys try to follow every rule. No go do like me to follow others do wrong thing. No illegal turning. No 1 way. Seat belt. Just follow all. Avoid wahala this season. Peace.
In addition don't do reverse on express road or 9n a bridge... I'm still trying to to find out the exact meter reverse is permit on an express road.

If anyone has that information please educate us.

That us the reason you see. Lasma don't take pictures when somebody is making reverse instead they take videos and once a particular distance is attained they go afyer the driver to arrest. So if you have missed a turn and the only option is reverse pls dont do the reverse once it has exceed maybe 500m or 1km.

I understand the law is the law but no matter the law or the case maybe it can still be contested in a court of law. Abi you never see where a murderer was discharge and acquitted for a clear murder case b4? I've seen 2 cases...

Lastma with police arrested him with other vehicles only for the ticket to appear like this. Him and other drivers where shocked at what they wrote on the ticket. He never took one way. And no fine is on the ticket. They just asked to go court. Or bring 400k.just like that. Since Thursday. The driver has been traveling from his house Ajah to Amuwo-odofin every day. Still no solution.

If You're stubborn and bold enough, go to court. They have no evidence of you taking one-way. Just make sure your stories are consistent. Just tell the court the road where you were stipped without stating your offence only to bring this receipt.
400k? You won't even spend that for court case.
If this case trends enough on Twitter, you can even get lawyers that will do it pro-bono for you. A lot of people are angry now at govts.

So I adopted luxurydriver’s style and told told him I was gonna snap the code and search on google. When I did, all the 9 codes were saying only air flow censor.

I'll suggest you clean your airflow sensor with electric cleaner and also clean your air filter. Your throttle body and mouth too should be cleaned, not forgetting your injector nozzles.if your air filter is seriously dirty, buy a new one.its around 1-2k. All these process is known as a tune up. Endeavour to do it twice a year.
What make is your car sir?

Part 2:

Through thw backdoor

Now, if youre caught on any of the traffic offence, step 1 and 2 is the norms...

Don't ever go to that canopy or think of proceeding to court.
There's a canteen in the compound just go there and seat inside, if you can buy food and eat or contact GAZZUZZ logistics to get you a plate of Jamaican rice with chicken from mama radautoworks grin b4 your order must have arrived if you're smart you must have Atikulated(code) the nigerian factor. If you still haven't been able to, when your order arrives open it, get a bottle of coka-cola and start eating your food with your two eyes on your food without your head up don't ask me why grin I'm very very sure b4 you'd finished eating somebody would have approach you.

From there you'll be told what and what to do.

But be ready to spend at least N150,000. This fee doesn't include the money you'll be paying at the yard your car is being parked oh.

So @ chinyce... If you know its a 1-Way offense you have kindly choose which one best suit you. I can't drop number here else I would have sent you one or two persons that can assist you and guild you through the process but go prepare. But if you're very sure it's phone call offense you have but they changed it for you, guy go through the normal process and get a lawyer because they wont be able to provide any convincing evident against you in court. Any other evidence other than the one way is null and void so magistrate will strike out the case then discharge it and even you can fill for charges because you can say you didn't commit any offense.

The ball is at your court. Choose which path you go.

Good luck!!

How newbie wan take knw all this one way like this..... See wahala o

This is the gospel truth. Anyone driving on Lagos roads anything after 7pm is looking for trouble for himself. Yesterday I was nearly robbed at Oshodi oke on my way home from the island as I was about dropping my female rider at the descending ramp leading to Mushin-Agege motor road. If there is traffic there, you are finished. The boys were just approaching my car(my glass is tinted but if you stare deeply you will see someone inside) and as one of them raised his hands to pullout something from his trousers to smash my driver's window, the traffic miraculously started moving, and he retreated. That was how God intervened on my behalf. I just quickly zoomed off before another one will come and block me. Lagos is zero security for now o, so please anything after 6.30 to 7pm when it is getting dark, just head straight to your house jehjeh. Any night time traffic you enter into now, you are most likely to be robbed by boys, even in Lekki. Nowhere is safe at all. No police anywhere, and other drivers will not come to your rescue if it happens to you.

Copied.
