Sir, before my elder sister became the branch manager of the bank she works now, the man in that position before, stole #8m and disappeared. He's married with 4 kids. It's been over a year now and they are still looking for him. I am telling you the whole truth!

Modified------------------
My sister is engaged, not married yet and no kids and she is the branch manager now. I can snap her ID and blur the name and pic so you know I'm telling you the truth.

It is a painful one for me cos the position is Head of Procurement and the pay would have been the highest I have ever come across since I graduated and started working.

You will get another one soon.

Bro it’s the marital status.
Yoruba believe someone of your age should have married and should be responsible to a family.

This is the war I’m currently facing with my uncle who’s about to lose his job... he’s getting old but has refused to marry and his Yoruba boss is ready to kick him out.

PS. We’re also Yoruba from his state.

Every body wants to upgrade in his/her career. So I applied for this managerial position at a very big company in Lagos. I wowed them at the 1st stage and they gave me good amount of money for trans.

The 2nd stage was also the same as above. Then the 3rd stage, I was to meet with the chairman of the company. He's old. Well known big shot in Nigeria. He's a Yoruba man.

He asked me the questions below:

1. Why do want to leave your company?
Career growth. I explained extensively.
2. How much do you earn?
I told him
3. Who is your father and what does he do?
He's late. He was a civil servant
4. Who is mother and what does she do?
Nothing. She's old and in the village at the moment.
5. Where are you from?
Mentioned my state from the East, but I speak Yoruba fluently cos I was born and bred in Lagos.
He said but you don't have the passport. You're ibo. I don't know what this means
6. Where do you leave?
Gave him an address on the mainland.
7. Do you have a car?
No
8. Are you married?
No
9. Any children?
No

His response: so you're not married and you don't have children? I said yes. Then he said; you can go, they will get back to you.

The admin lady handed an envelope filled with money to me and said they will get back to me.

Today, i got a regret message.

What did I do wrong? Should I have lied? Why should a marital status and tribe matter in employment? This is really a sad one for me

How many "palliatives" have he collected from other interviews or all interviews he has attended?

Is that company that rich to be blowing brown enveloped palliatives on prospective interviewers?

In an interview scenario, every tiny detail matters...it just takes grace and wisdom to be able to figure it out

You clearly dont understand how these things work.

I think the money given was the bait...

And you accepted.

That means you can be maneuvered to accept bribe...

My one cented opinion tho

And it is FALSE

The ideal thing for most serious companies is to give their candidates their tp and feeding tips whenever they come for interviews

Go and ask people who were in Nigeria in the late 1980s how companies treated them then.

Move on bro...
It's not your fall...
It's a call you can stand without being held in the hand by anyone.
Continue being your own boss and you'd know how cool it is in the days to come.

We blame white people for racism but here in Nigeria we practice sectionalism, ethnicity and tribalism. How are we different from them? undecided

Give up is never in my dictionary. As a matter of fact, I have a mini sized biz and a small job. It's just to upgrade.

Thanks for your submission. I appreciate.
Keep pushing, only time. Baba probably has his candidate already and was just looking for excuses to fail you.

Bros, a typical Yoruba man is tribalistic in nature.
Come to think of it, why is it that those of them that are landlords in a place like Lagos hardly take Igbos as tenants?

The marital aspect is another area that helped disqualify you. You are applying for a managerial position and they will like to know how you have been managing your home cos that's where management should start from.
Igbos will pay for 2yrs, after packing in.....you ll struggle to get subsequent rents from him

That’s the thing and that’s my current search too, cos I’m of the age to have at least 2 kids...

Imagine when you’re paid almost a million with no one to share the money with...

The words I don hear this past week is something...

They believe if you can’t manage a family, coexist with other people, how will you manage people under you? That’s the thing oo so no tribal thing cos any tribe could behave like that as long as it’s a strategic position.

TRIBALISM and RELIGIOUS sentiments are two evils
hindering Nigeria's progress. Sometimes, it's easier for
Nigerians to excel in far away US, UK and Canada.

OP, you lost the job at No: 6 when the Chairman told you
"but you don't have the passport, you're ibo".

I have just returned from a house inspection with an agent
who informed me the landlord insists on a Yoruba tenant.

Now, I'm neither IBO nor Yoruba nor Hausa but the Yoruba landlord
wouldn't listen. As long as I'm not Yoruba nor Hausa, he assumes I'm IBO.
I told him my state but he insists 'omo Ibo'.

The hatred for Ibos among Yoruba landlords is becoming disgusting.

Any establishment owned by a Yoruba will never and can never employ an Igbo.

But the foolish Igbo's employs Yoruba's and even give them their business secrets.

Igbos are indeed very foolish.

People who don't even know how much they are hated by Yorubas.
