All 5 monikers are from the same person. The dude is quite intelligent, I give him that.

As per the knowledge displayed, you should know that almost any subject has been discussed on this nairaland alone, talkless of scanning the breath of google. It is all here littered in thousands of threads, if you know how to search, you can effectively access what ever info u want with varying degrees of depth.

I am not saying anyone is less informed o.

Dear all,
With the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2004, the troubles associated with the Defined Benefits scheme in existence before 2004, including civil servants retiring without receiving benefits for years were put to an end.

The confidence brought by the CPS made contributors nonchalant to the performance of their respective PFAs in the management of their funds which would ensure good return on investment and further guarantee a very comfortable retirement.

The webinar promises to show:

• Why contributors need to be concerned with investment returns on their Pension Assets and the difference it will make at retirement

• What contributors can do to ensure a comfortable retirement and financial planning

We assured you that we will continue to strive in providing you with highly competitive Return on Investment (ROI) on your Retirement Savings Account (RSA), responsive customer relationship and that much needed mutual trust.

The session promises to be educative, informative and a great value of your time.

Oga, remember when you came at me with this because I said the pounds Sterling was the currency to bet on and you said it was at its highest point and USD at its lowest. Go and look at the pound Sterling and the USD again. Don’t you feel foolish now?

I didn’t come at you... I only offered you the basics of investment. And I did it tactfully, free of juvenile abuses. The only person who should feel “foolish” is your unruly and irrational self.

1. You’re coming at me to “prove a point” that doesn’t exist just 3 months after my comment (even though I didn’t even bother to argue with you in the first place, cos I knew you were not worth it). Is that how short sighted you are about investments and speculations?

2. I made that comment on 5 September. GBP to USD was 1.33 at the time. Guess what happened the very next day? GBP actually crashed! It stayed low for MONTHS before this recent high again at 1.34. Is 0.01 the gain you’re so desperately eager to feel “right” about? Most especially in comparison to people who sold at 1.33 and bought low again when it crashed (and would probably sell again at this high like any rational trader anywhere)?

I have a word of advice for you. Get rid of the clutter of abuses in your brain and fill it up with actual knowledge and intelligence. Next time you want to try to come for me, come correct. Get yourself a brain, and don’t call me names.

Everything that has to do with pension in Nigeria is like a scam. With this Maina's case of embezzling pensioneers money was the height.

So many things that could just go wrong before your retirement in Nigeria. Devaluation, bad monetary policies, corruption, insecurity, disintegration, etc.

I really feel for middle class or civil servants who might not have lots of options on how best to plan their retirements. Pension funds is supposed to be the most regulated in every sane country.

Oga, you said it was the peak. And I’m telling you It was not the peak!

I said expect gains when UK reaches a deal with the EU. And we are seeing those gains right now as we approach a deal. Smart people don’t take short term positions on a currency like the GBP with all the volatility around it during the negotiations with the EU.

Mark this sir. GBP will touch 1.40 to 1.45 next year. Smart people took a position at 1.200 and are just waiting to cash out wink.

By the way, I thought it was sub 1.3 when we had that exchange grin grin

VGIF is under the Mutual Funds category,
Zplan and Zsave is unique to our ziing mobile app,
The HYN and MTN is under our FI category.
Note since the investment options above guarantees both the capital and ROI it still falls under FI category.

The major different is the minimum fund.

Boss, to be fair, some of them are doing a good job with the investments. The pension funds do not make the regulations. They only invest the employer and employee contributions for us. And they have smart people like Oga Emmanuel working with them and investing in the right instruments.

Without them, many Nigerians (especially the lazy youths) would not have any retirement savings. Maina and his cronies can not take your money that the pension funds are investing for you.

If you pick the right one, you can be sure of having a decent amount of money when you retire. You may also have to make voluntary contributions that you don’t touch and have other personal investments sha and I guarantee that you won’t be like some of the old retired people in our families that are so broke and begging to survive.

Btw, we have mandatory retirement savings/contributions in most if not every country in the world.

Lazyyouth4u is actually correct. There must be communication and feedback between mentor and mentee. Both must know each other.

I think you are confusing mentor/mentee with role model.

Supported, there are couple of applications already developed for mentor mentee programs/session.
There has to be an engagement, meetings and agenda set and agreed by both parties. Regular reviews of assigned task etc.
Mere watching random videos or following someone on Facebook can't be classified as mentorship. At best we can say role model.

I am also not happy with derogatory statements made against the teaching profession (tagging nursery and primary school teachers as a failure is a careless statement that shouldn't be made in public).
Everyone cannot work in an oil company,

That is how you roam around looking for attention you were denied at home. Your bad character is like excrement, hanging over your head and repulsive to everyone around you. Everyone pushes you away everywhere you turn. I can't understand the enormity of the emotional deprivation you suffered that makes you desperately crave attention, howbeit futile.

I pray and hope so, just that it is heartbreaking to see these retirees living in abject poverty after serving Nigeria for over 30ryrs. Many had retired before realising that all the money they were paying into their retirement accounts had entered voice mail. The situation of many of our pensioneers are the most pathetic in Nigeria. They have paid their dues already, unlike many of our youths who are yet to even add anything tangible to national growth.

Now that our governors are bent in borrowing more from pension funds, we really have to tighten all loopholes and secure those funds and give our ageing and retired parents a relaxed and comfortable retirement and life before they join our ancestors.

The funds they are talking about, is it the ones housed by Stanbic and other pension houses or the pension for government workers?

What I think, everyone should also have a retirement plan outside of their workplace.

I understand. The difference though is that civil servants were entitled to pensions (called defined benefit pension plans) where you get a certain amount of money after working for some years. It was the government’s responsibility to just pay the pensioners from their account. Unfortunately, corrupt people like Maina and his goons chopped the money plus our government is too broke (and corrupt) to even make up. That’s why Babas no dey see pension collect.

But under the new plan (defined contribution), money is taken from salaries (and employer contributions) and given to investment houses and pension funds chosen by staff. And these pension funds invest the money on our behalf until retirement. Similar to the 401k in Yankee and other plans in developed countries.

It is our responsibility to choose what pension funds we want to invest our money for us so we need to be careful with this choice. I can list a couple that are doing well but I no want anyone to come insult me again so I will pass. Mind you, it is the same guys that handle our mutual funds that handle these investments so they actually know what they are doing.

Trust me sir, this lazy youth generation of workers will not suffer the fate of those old babas wey dey queue and die waiting to collect pension. Especially if they are maxing out on voluntary contributions and also making other retirement investments (buying house, Tbills, bonds and as Oga Emmanuel says holding stocks long term).

Ps: I don’t know if the government workers will still be receiving pensions but i know they are making contributions to the pension funds.

Exactly, everyone should have a plan B with their retirement funds. I really don't know the pension funds our governors wants to borrow from.. maybe our experts in the house can enlighten us on that.

Having said that, one of our biggest problem in Nigeria is having several parastatals or commission for just one ministry. We are supposed to have just one pension fund that will be thoroughly regulated.

A friend who worked with a certain govt parastatals once told me that it is very difficult not to be a thief or steal money if you are in some positions in Nigeria, because there are so many middle men or units in every ministry that shouldn't even be existing in the first place.
