Without those gate, many people won't be able to sleep with there eyes close.
The security system of lagos state has failed and that's why people decided to secure themselves with the aid of gates.
Instead of building good road networks,rail ways and more ferries on the water, it gate they wanna remove.

I was there last weekend.Some pipu came to asked my host to contribute money for gate.Each houses I hear pay 15k each,shop owners 3k per head.See daylight robbery

The Street gates are not there for fun but exigencies and more so due to increased crime rates.Most of these Communities have lost hopes in The Nigerian Police,who should have provided succour but are found wanting.We hope the Commissioner is not saying he is being protected by his own security.How we wish the Commissioner can go out late to see how things are in most of the Communities before dishing out order.

I wrote about this early this year on this site and nobody took notice . Let me say this once again , the gates are causing serious traffic and the situation is getting worse. Sometimes they just lock up a street gate and you end up been forced to go back to a long traffic situation. The street associations should revert to joint mobile patrol security system not this lock and cage mentality. Apart from the traffic problem of these gates , they also make lagos look like a box and sometimes when there is emergency situations the guards are no where to be found. Unregistered estates are now springing up everywhere with gates and fence everywhere. I think this should go beyond an order, there should be enforcements.

.and at night those security men, manning most of these gates,ask you to pay a specific amount before, they allow you access the Route,it's highly unacceptable!!!

Lazy government, fix major road, identify alternative routes and fix them. Street gates not an issue. Just instructions of opening and closing time is enuf.

The Keke wey u ban for VI has turned to korope. Let's see if u can ban korope again.

When 1million boys comes at night, nobody will tell you before you create your own security in this state that is looking like a failed one already.

When those that supposed to protect you are not doing so do you go to sleep,abi.Then blame yourself later because the elites knows how to be selfish and protect themselves.

Crappy directive.
The State should go around and remove them. There is a Ministry with that responsibility.
Issuing a directive to the public is just lip service. The gates will remain where they are. If SanwoOlu wants to ease traffic, then he should remove the gates using government agencies.

P.S. He should start with those placed at Lagos House of Assembly to the driveway leading to his office, Lagos House.
Those gates forces everyone to use the traffic light before Lands as the only road in getting to 7Up from Alausa.

Which city in the world.allows residents to set up street gates as they like? If you have a security problem in your area.... get together as a community.... address the problem with the authorities and form a neighbourhood watch /vigilante group.
@ topic... no public street should be gated period. It is for the city to regulate the flow of traffic on the main roads and not have them be driving through local streets as short cuts or detours.

What a joke!

Where the politicians are living, don’t they have gates?

Anybody living in Lagos would appreciate any street that has gates.

This is because security is 80% assured with gates in place. Streets without gates sleep with one eye shut, and wake up every morning to go and confirm what else has been stolen from their cars etc.

It is street without gates that encourage robbers to operate for hours going from house to house with impunity.

Also, when hoodlums go on a looting spree, streets with gates simply shut their gates and are therefore exempted.

What a bad call by an insensitive government.

Instead, make a law that gates should not be shut before 10pm unless in emergency situations like hoodlum attacks etc. Put a fine for any street association caught flouting the rules with the threat to remove the gate completely. Problem solved.
