The Shenzhen Zhipu Technology Co. Ltd., which is a subsidiary of Gionee, has implanted a Trojan Horse through a software update using the so-called "Story Lock Screen" app. The first devices infected with the "Dark Horse Program" were in December 2018. The job was carried out until October 2019 and for that period, the company is said to have earned around $4.2 million, affecting 21.75 million smartphones. The expenses for that period are just a little below $1.3 million.

Xu Li, Zhu Ying, Jia Zhengqiang and Pan Qi were found guilty in the process of illegally controlling mobile devices and are sentenced from 3 to 3.5 years in prison along with a CNY 200,000 (~$30,000) fine each.

Although shocking, this seems to be a common practice with cheap Chinese smartphones and other companies were also found guilty of the same
malicious activity and Tecno is one of them.

I used a gionee phone, gionee m5 mini from september 2017 to november 2020. I know the story lock screen app. Infact i actually used it, because i found it had interesting things.

Those are quality phones. I would prefer Nokia phones because they come with stock android. stock android is the original OS as developed by google. Unlike the android OS that comes with Samsung and other phones it is not customised.

I was shocked when i switched on my Nokia 5.3 phone for the first time, i was expecting to see a plethora of apps, but instead just gmail, youtube, chrome, google photos and 1or 2 other google apps that you might need that's all.
You only activate the google apps you need.

Notifications enter my phone like mad. this did not happen when i used samsung and gionee.
i remember when i was using gionee, i would set notifications on Livescore app, i wouldn't be getting notifications, or sometimes i would get a notification that match has started but no notification when a goal is scored or for half time. I thought the problem was from the Livescore app. My eye don clear now.

Well they might be more standard than others, but don't forget all phones are now manufactured in China even though they are designed else where.

TECNO has cleared their issues since now, why bringing them into an issue that doesn't concern them. Too much unnecessary hatred in this space.
