Niggie I sight you. you asked what relate harmattan with transpiration....... very simple, according to water cycle, transpiration is one of the major factor that help in rain formation, and if you can understand the role the rainforest (basin) Especially the Amazon plays in this transpiration,then you understand why I mentioned it. And the same basin was seriously damaged by fire towards the ending of 2019. The change in our climatic is not that surprising. we all know it will be like that. once there's any shift in any climatic make up, other factors must also be affected. Rainfall was affected that's why harmattan was affected too, because if there's no good rainfall at the doldrums, the pressure belt at the Horse will be less to descend down the doldrums(equatorial low).

I still can't get how transpiration relates with harmattan. Which Amazon basin are you talking about?

When you talk of harmattan, the major forcing functions include: The Subtropical high Pressure(Sahara high), Northeast trade wind, and Subtropical Jet.
