BBCpidgin is asking this question on facebook and I observed a lot of people are shying away from the question of sexual abuse and focusing more on physical abuse and maltreatments. I understand their reservations considering identity is open on facebook.

So thought I should bring it here. Did you ever experience sexual abuse or know someone who was abused as a boarding school student? It's one myth a lot of people carry, so can we have this talk here? Please share your experience.

I did attend a boarding school. I was not abused per se. But had a senior who masturbated in front of some three or four of us just to show us what sperm looks like.

Nahhh...was a day student all through except in Uni. My roommates would be gisting me about what and what happened in their boarding schools. So many things went on in boarding schools that parents aren't aware of till now.

Boarding school was fun, if you didn't go to boarding school, you never really enjoyed secondary school. Sexual abuse was more common in all girls college, heard they rape one aboki like that years back in one government boarding sch in Abuja. Same girls college the male teachers are always at the receiving end from those sex-starved girls

Never really knew why seniors used to create tents on their bunks when I was in jss1. Lots of seniors had this habit of joining each other on their beds and the only thing the rest of us would hear was lots of giggling.

One senior came to my bed once to try rough play on my small growing boobs. Told her I was going to tell my mom on visiting day. I didn't though but she apologized with almost all that she had. She left the hostel after that term. I didn't really understand a lot that went on in that place till after I left.

Not sexual abuse though, but psychological and physical abuse. I was like a broom stick just within one term. It was like a prison yard, seniors were physically abusive and the housemaster would ignore their atrocities. Mosquitoes would feast on us in the so-called reading room. The food was nasty. My money was stolen overnight...

Thank God I was quickly withdrawn and taken to a regular day school.

Mine was an all-boys school. There were cases of homosexuality being reported. The term used then was 'buggling'.
I stil remember how many students were expelled for being involved in it(2016).
It is usually senior students who do it with junior ones(their school sons). They always protect those junior students and do nt allow them to do labour and other work with their mates.

Yes. I had a senior who was my bunk mate but he stayed on the lower bunk. He bullied me so much i felt uncomfortable staying in the hostel. If by chance i stepped on his bed while climbing up, he beats me up. I was wandering why he hated me so much then one night i was fast asleep and felt some movements around me.
