Governor Ortom is just trying to play the role of a peacemaker here, don't demonize him

Were you expecting him to advise the lady to leave her marriage so that you guys will call him a homewrecker? undecided

Some people are just bent at seeing the family break up. As much as I do not support the guys action, if elderly intervention like that of Ortom can help them realize their responsibility and duties as husband and wife and the need to cherish each other, I see no reason why anyone should be bittered seeing that they are back together.

The patriarchal standards these so called old adults enable is horrendous

Love everything about this post. OP was hitting all the right points

In this Nigerian society, We need to normalize divorce, and make it something unshameful about.

The Journalist needs to be behind bars, and not a mediation

Nigerian women deserve better. We have a long way to go.

Glad good minds are out here shedding light on

I don't want to be that guy, but how would you react if the Dr. was your blood sister. It's until it hits home before a lot of us men think properly. That marriage should be dissolved, and the man behind bars

So the act of the Governor is now seen as evil..

Doing Good is now evil..

The World has gone insane! I Pity this Generation!

As long as a gun was not pointed towards the lady before she accepted to resolve her marriage I don't think the governor did that much wrong but if the case of domestic violence against her is proven right then the journalist should be dealt with according to the law.we need less animals in our society posing as humans.

Some misguided folks & feminist are not happy with the fact that they settled it..

It is far from settled. I'm all for happiness but the issue can't be settled in a day. the journalist has taken a lifestyle of abuse and needs to undergo counselling in anger management . It should be a gradual process with both talking their hearts out to a dedicated person who they'd report their improvements and constraints.

I understand the governor meant well as an elder .
I wish her the best though.

Bla bla bla. Enough of this long talk and this unnecessary mention of John Austin principle my left ass.

Governor Ortom only acted according to the level of his brain capacity. The onus is in the hands of the woman, it has always been. She alone can decide to file for divorce and sue her husband, thereby telling Ortom to go fvck himself!.

We should even ask ourselves why she even remained in that idiot's house all this time, after all the cases of repeated abuse, which she didn't report.

The pulse should mind their business and stop drinking garri over what doesn't concern them.

What exactly is the conclusion of the epistle.

Our generation don't repair, we discard.

They can still be better couple tommorrow.

Mr journalists erred and the wife is not an angel as well. Both are now aware that they in limelight.

Let's give the marriage the second chance.

The people against the OP's piece are either those that beat their wives or those that want to beat their wives.

So, those of you that are cheering the governor on, what would be your reaction if this man beats his wife again and she dies? He's beaten her badly before so it's not out of the realm of possibility to believe he can do it again.

And your answer shouldn't be "we pray it doesn't happen". Because if it does happen, your prayers will not bring her back.

And the children moved to your house right, how much child support have you agreed to render to assist the woman take care of the children feeding, school fee and clothing while the man is behind bars?
Put him behind bars, put him behind bars. At most he will be behind bars for hitting his wife for 6 months or at most 1year. Pls tell me how much support you have planned to render when the family is separated. Rather than talking about putting him behind bars, why not talk about counseling on how to handle the family finance, love and respect for each other? Don't you think 4children with the guy and his wife is enough responsibility to get a fragile man frustrated? Probably you think the guy earns his salary in millions?

The day a woman decides to use the razor in her mouth to cut the enemies of her marriage down through prayers and not to use on her husband is the day she will start controlling the affairs of her home peacefully.
She has decided to continue what is your business or are you one of the devilish advisers who would later trend on social media with the break up?

Don't mind some people. All they want to hear is that the family have been separated and possibly the be sent to prison but non of them have told us how much they will contribute monthly to support the woman in taking care of 4children feeding, accommodation, school fee etc
Re: Governor Ortom And His Shameful Normalization Of Domestic Violence by yemex04(m): 12:57pm On Dec 11, 2020
There is no issue here and the mediator has not done anything wrong here because, the choice of either to remain or walk out of the marriage remains exclusive to the parties involved the wife or even the husband..especially the victim(the wife) No need to demonize Ortom here.

The truth is that you cannot cry more than the bereaved. Wife beating in all its ramifications must not be confined.

Is it better to have a broken home? Some have purposed in their hearts never to have broken homes. Some have purposed never to leave the spouses irrespective of what they experience. Some have purposed not to have children from different partners.

A medical doctor somehow finds himself or herself as a counselor. Such issues present themselves daily and to a large extent are repaired. Mrs. Ango may have experienced this in the lives of her patients before now.

Mrs. Ango already had her plans before venturing into that marriage. If she did not want the issue resolved she would have informed the governor. Note that the governor only advised and he did not force them to settle. The woman probably agreed out of respect to the governor, but the truth remains that if she did not want to return to their home, she never would have.

In a lot of cases, wife beaters have regretted their errors and live their lives in pain knowing the evil they inflicted on their wives.

OP are you married? If you are would you wish your home to be broken? Your words make you sound like a bitter person. The governor did the very right thing. He even did better by bringing it to the public. Now everyone knows the man and his wife. There is a tag on the man now. Mr. Ango now will be more careful. The governor acted like a concerned father. If our leaders are able to resolve matters in this manner our country will be better. I guess many governors will emulate him.

So once there is an issue of domestic violence, it is certain the man will kill the woman right? The essence of the governor stepping in is to identify there mistakes and advise them. This had been a successful practice over a period of time and I believe it will be successful in the issue at hand
