Forget about that plasterboard 'thingy'

It's more expensive than using the POP Cement, Top bond and the POP Paint.

I'm at that stage now and I've compared both options.

I've spent about ₦2m to screed all internal and external walls, including ceiling POP cast design.

I got a quote of ₦8,500 per square metre for plasterboard (material and Labour). The size of the ceiling is 7.5m*30m=225sqm.

Let's do the maths ₦8500*225sqm=₦1,912,500

But I will be achieving much more with about ₦2,100,000

My ₦2,100,000 spent covers:
All external wall Screeding (from roof to the ground)
All internal walls (save areas with wall tiles)
Ceiling of the entire upper floor

Absolutely!

I'm currently modernising three 1970s inheritance properties which includes changing the old granny's ceiling to POP. I have done the comparism of in-situ caste POP and plasterboard approach but in-situ POP comes up cheaper. But @Next kept banging on about plasterboard working cheaper for him.

This made me think I might be missing a trick or two so I thought this would be an opportunity for me to learn.

Mind you I'm well familiar with plasterboard here in the Uk. 99% of all UK ceiling is plasterboard. This is why I asked @Next to give his cost per square meter just for a smoke free perspective. You can read @Next rude response (not bible) and his pompous disposition ( l don't contract with Nairalanders). This just confirmed to me it's all talk and hot air bordering on imaginary projects.

On a flip side, if you’re really familiar with professional plasterboard installations and really as smart as you think you are, you’d have seen where the savings are coming from in the pictures I’ve shared.

If builders, house owners and contractors can chose between aluminium sheets and stone coated roofing due to finance or choice, why is there no such alternative to POP?
My thinking is because Okorommaduekwe did it, therefore Gbadamosi, Osunbor and Idongesit must do it. Just like iron wrought, chrome or stainless rails.
Not because its cheap or expensive.
Some have added penthouses to buildings but don't know it's meaning or usefulness, because they just want the penthouse title added when describing their edifice.
Its a matter of mentality and dynamism.

I don't do application and from the description, it would have to be done by the people doing the plastering because it must still be workable and not totally set.

It can b done wen totally set, but might not acheive perfect smoothness like the later, UNLESS the wall is well plastered.

My waterstand (plastered same time with main hux but was not screeded at the time, about 2 months ago) was screeded 2 weeks ago along side the fence and we achieved same result.

This same question is what I asked myself few years ago. I have my noggins already and the cost of POP is overreaching. Then I decided to go with plasterboard as an alternative to the traditional POP boards.

The above approach removed the need for the plasterboard accessories as I’m just using it as an alternative to the traditional POP boards.

Every other components remain the same. The difference is in the number of cement I’ll be using to cover a room and the labour charges.

Any other material that can be screeded over can easily replace POP boards in this case e.g. asbestos, cement boards, plywood, polystyrene etc.

_______
The whole idea is to think outside the box and stop approaching construction with a typical naija man “pre-fixed mindset”

What about a disguised safe house? Just thinking
rotecch77:

Thanks chairman , you are right BUT you asked for the real purpose of that design.
The real purpose in building technology is for VENT
As I said earlier we have many vent in building
- window is also vent in building
- gable vent
-Roof vent
And many more.
You see some might later manage to introduce or later convert the small area there to room.

Some also use the space as attic room.

An attic (sometimes referred to as a loft) is a space found directly below the pitched roof of a house or other building; an attic may also be called a sky parlor or a garret. ... Attics are generally used for storage, though they can also help control temperatures in a house by providing a large mass of slowly moving air.

Look at these diagram pics below.

Says who?

The ceiling of upper floor or floor before the roof doesn't necessarily have to be done with POP. There are different kinds of ceiling finishing that are very durable

Small details can have big impact in a landscape.
Always endeavor to do it right the first time.

Landscape and open space planning should demonstrate, where relevant, how your design:

- Provides a safe, attractive and functional environment for end users.
- Allows for intended vegetation growth
Considers ongoing ease and costs of maintenance
- Provides a high level of amenity to public and private users.
- Protects and retains predominant landscape features including mature trees and significant vegetation.
