Flying Eagles Crash Out Of
2021 U-20 AFCON

Nigeria’s U-20 men’s team, Flying Eagles, have
crashed out of the WAFU B Zonal qualifiers
holding in Porto Novo, Benin Republic,
Completesports.com reports.
The Flying Eagles have now missed the chance to
be at next year’s U-20 AFCON in Mauritania.
Their elimination was confirmed after Cote d’Ivoire
defeated Ghana 1-0 in Group B’s last fixture on
Saturday.

The Flying Eagles needed Ghana to beat Cote
d’Ivoire by a wide margin to stand a chance of
qualifying for the semi-finals of the WAFU B Zonal
qualifiers.

In their first game the Nigerian side played 1-1
with Cote d’Ivoire before losing 1-0 to Ghana.
After two rounds of games played by the three
countries, Cote d’Ivoire top the group on four
points, Ghana second on three points and the
Flying Eagles third on one point.
Following Saturday’s result Ghana and Cote
d’Ivoire advance into the last four while the Ladan
Bosso-led side are out.
Horrible!

They said it would be difficult for Ndidi to return back to the Leicester's starting lineup because of *Ordinary* Mendy cry. Now check it out, the main man is back in the starting lineup while Mendy has returned to his deserved bench grin.

We love to underate our players by ourselves. undecided

Very nice performance by Fulham although they were back foot for most of the game due to their early goal. What was impressive was their response after they conceded from the penalty.

They came out, pressed Liverpool and took the game to them.

Aina, Adarabioyo and Lookman were brilliant.

Men, Lookman showed so much quality today. I hope he keeps improving from this point.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 9:34pm On Dec 13, 2020
I had an epiphany today watching the Fulham vs Liverpool game. I think football is taking another shift and Parker has noticed it.

Quality wise, Fulham were not a match to Liverpool. The gulf in class showed. However, when it came to stamina, Fulham not only matched them but I can say excelled.

I think with a high speed and long running system, the black players will excel and I think that is why Parker is pushing for black players.

Football is turning into an athletics sports and normally, blacks dominate the tracks. From sprints to long distance races.

I think Scott Parker has seen this and will use it to his advantage.

Wow.

Throwback time. To the best of my knowledge, at the time I made this comment, Bielsa was jobless.

Apr 10, 2016
TheGoodJoe:
If we must sign a foreign coach, pick still remains Marcelo Bielsa. He is also without a job now.

Another Coach the NFF should give a shot is Marcelo Bielsa. The Coach who led Athletico Bilbao to the Europa League final, beating Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United along the way.

His style of football fits us and he likes creative brilliant players.

Report on Marcelo Bielsa's coaching style.

Bielsa's signature formation in his squads, which he made famous and brought to the front of the world's mainstream football scene during his coaching tenures in the Argentina national football team, Chile national football team, Athletic Bilbao and Olympique de Marseille, is the 3-3-3-1 formation.

For this formation, the players are: 3 defenders (1 líbero with 2 stoppers at each side), 3 midfielders (1 central midfielder with 2 lateral-volantes at each side), 3 attacking midfielders (1 enganche and 2 wingers at each side), and 1 centerforward. 3-3-3-1 allows great transitions from defending to attacking, as many of the players used in the formation can perform both defensive and attacking tasks. Moreover, it establishes superiority in numbers in every part of the field, since with this formation his teams could defend with 7 players, attack with 6-7 players, or protect a scoreline by overwhelming the midfield with 6 players. To use 3-3-3-1, all players have to quickly set to attacking positions when the ball is in the team's possession, and all players have to aggressively press and recover the ball when it isn't in possession, so it requires great teamwork and understanding between teammates.

This signature style of Bielsa's has had so much influence in the football scene that many present coaches, former players under Bielsa's command, are heavily influenced by the style, such as Gerardo Martino, Mauricio Pochettino, Matías Almeyda and Marcelo Gallardo. Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola credited Bielsa as his tactical inspiration. Jorge Sampaoli has been described as a 'disciple' of Bielsa.

Bayern Munich and former Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola called him the "best manager in the world" in 2012.

Taking from Bielsa's Wikipedia page.

I think Marcelo Bielsa's arrival to the game has brought a new dimension to football, especially the English Premier League.

He has shown that a well trained side in the art of workrate can cause a top side problems and he clearly demonstrated it in the first game against Liverpool.

Today we saw signs of it in the Fulham game but I wish Scott Parker allowed his team do more with regards to pressing and attacking.

I think this is the ideal pattern for the Super Eagles and whoever takes over from Rohr must be someone who will tailor the team towards playing with intensity and high workrate.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m):
Over the years, I think in the 2000 era, we could boast of players with insane stamina and intensity.

Tijani Babangida
Pius Ikedia
Celestine Babayaro
Mobi Oparaku
Jero Shakpoke
Emma Isah
Garba Lawal
Garba Ahmed
Ganiyu Ajide
Julius Aghagowa

And a host of others.

Not so long, we had Ike Uche, Osaze Odemwingie, Obinna Nsofor, Efe Ambrose, Ogenyi Onazi, Ahmed Musa, Taiye Taiwo, Echiejile and a host of others.

Today we have Ebuehi, Aina, Ndidi, Sanusi, Etebo, Ejuke, Onyekuru, Chukwueze, Aribo and many more.

We need to centre our system on this strength and with the dynamic change taking in Football.

We can not afford playing conservatively but go for a more dynamic system.

One of Bielsa's student might be coming to Europe soon and he will be coming with fire. He is like the Guardiola of South America.

Marcelo Gallardo. Been a huge fan of him since his playing days. Like Diego Simeone, he was part of the Atlanta 96 Argentine side. Was on the bench though for Ortega

"What Gallardo has done with River is incredible, the level of results, giving them consistency every year despite the fact that they lose players...I do not understand why he is not nominated [for Fifa BEST coach in the world]” - Pep Guardiola
