Whatever you do. Do not convert your savings to Naira when it gets to Nigeria. Keep it in your domiciliary account. Rather convert your investment yields to the currency of the place you reside. Learned this the hard way. |

Basalt:permanent stay doesn’t guarantee you permanent stay, in Germany if you travel out of the country for three months your permanent stay will be revoked, I urge you to invest in Nigeria while you are visiting Nigeria and Germany together. Germany is a country where human right especially the immigrants doesn’t exist. Hitler is dead but his law lives. |

Basalt:Returning back to Nigeria is totally out of my plan if you understand the business environment in Europe so well, and you are doing fine there, why are you contemplating the idea of returning to invest? You heart lies there if you should come back to where you don't really have in mind and you don't enjoy that would be bad. A lot of people who I have heard of, who come back to start business or invest and they are doing well are people who have Nig in mind and are ready to defile all odds but your case is different. Invest there do exploit then expand your investment to your country once you have learned about the functionality of your business down here. |

Whatever decision you make eventually,I'll advise that you don't just leave money in your account. Invest Part of it in any financial instrument, no matter how small the return is. You Can invest in stocks, treasury bills, mutual funds etc. I Wish You The Best Of Luck. |

You really have a good friend. He gave you the best advise my brother. However, don't invest in Nigeria for now or even in the nearest future.....10 years to this time cos this is not a stable country for now. Anything can happen within the next few years. You can arrange your family to join you when you are comfortable, I would rather support the advise of your friend to relocate to Canada after your Msc cos there is more of opportunities in Canada for you than Germany. Forget buying of lands as an investment in Nigeria especially when you ain't around. Try and get better paying job and continue saving as best as you can than buying a property here that could be a hoax or taken away by more powerful individual or thugs and nothing you will do about it. Talking from experience anyway. Good luck... |

I was once in your shoe. No permanent residence and was caught in-between investing in myself or start building a house in Nigeria. I chose the former and I was glad I did. I triple my earning in less than 2 years and was able to start building the same house with less stress. The point is, even when you start building the so called house, the return on investing will be low cos it makes time to recoup your investing in real estate. Invest in yourself, increase your earn and you can go on and build yourself a house and do other good stuff. |

Basalt:Please do not listen to him. Invest in real estate especially in a place with high return of investment and rapid development if you have the money. Don't make similar mistake that a lot o people have made in the past. No matter what comes after, real estate investment will get your back covered. So do it and thank me later. |

Basalt:Forget Nigeria. You will not achieve your potential in Nigeria and you will ultimately regret investing your youth in Nigeria. Nigeria is the only country that gets worse as the years go by. You can always visit if you are homesick. |

Basalt:Your friend gave you the best advice, i will add that you should not wait for the 18 months post education visa before you start looking for other options. Start your Canadian PR Now and every other one. A plus for you if you are not married. |

Basalt:Bro I was in the same situation a few months ago but in the UK. I bought a land and hoped to resell to process my Canada visa when the time comes. My brother buy a land. Don’t build yet. You may spend the money if you keep it in your account. Problem no dey finish remember. |

Basalt:If you have a very trustworthy person in Nigeria then buy at least a plot of land in a good location after that you concentrate on getting your permanent stay in Germany No matter how bad things are in Nigeria you still need to have some investments here except you have no plans of ever returning to this country |

Dont invest in Nigeria oooo. There is no hope that Nigerians can elect a good leadership to sustain your investment. One idiot will wake up one day and Gokada your investment with a silly policy and Nigerians on social media will ask you where you got the investment money from in the first place. Don't invest in Nigeria. Buy stocks on US stocks where the dollar is secure. Even if your 50m grows in Nigeria, after 10 years it will be the same money or less in dollars. Don't invest. A word is enough for the wise. |

Basalt:So you call buying a land and building a house investment? If you can't find a solid business you can run from Europe with a good returns, then forget it. Bro. Investment doesn't necessary have to be long term. You can buy something sharply, ship it to Nigeria, cash your money and be on the lookout for another opportunity. Get good and reliable contacts here in Nigeria, go for machineries like lathe machine, milling machine and other industrial machines which are swapped out from their factories and must be very cheap, get good shipping company and you're good to go. Don't mind your friend, he is just being a typical Nigerian. Not surprise if he's a Yoruba man with "Aro tan" . Invest your saved millions in what can aid your travelling back and forth from Europe to Nigeria. |
