Has anyone used the NHS COVID19 test to travelled to Nigeria using Turkish Airline? The thought of doing a private PCR test and also paying the PCR test on arrival in Nigeria breaks my heart.

My question is specific to Turkish Airline. Thanks

I would say the NHS test is accepted by all airlines to Nigeria. Cant think of a valid reason why not

But we have some constraints, my wife just secured a job with NHS in London but the hospital is only providing accommodation for her alone that they don't currently have family accommodation on ground. And she has an infant that cannot be left back here in nigeria so our plan is to travel together so as to spend little time with the boys just for a month while we get our family accommodation. Need some who can help us out. Please you can PC me 08033374461

Congrats on your wife job

Rarely does anybody house strangers ..... also UK houses are small. It barely enough for ones family not to talk of taking in strangers

Realistically start looking at airbnb or short lease or short room for rent . Although someone here might have a room to rent but keep your options open by searching the web

There is a student thread where incoming student occasionally mention accommodation remotely ... maybe you post this question there and hopefully get some guidance

What part of London are you looking at? I have a double room in a 3 bed victorian house that I can let for one month or more in SE London. Don't know if that meets your specification.

DHL so you can track and get it delivered to your home instead of you having to go back and forth at NIPOST. Saves you stress.

TheLasyBuddha:
Quick question, please.
A friend of mine would have her certificate mailed from the UK as she has been awarded a degree. She has been asked to choose a courier service: either DHL or Royal Mail. The DHL would offer a tracking service, which would cost her £20 while the Royal Mail wouldn't offer a tracking service.

Would you advise she use Royal Mail instead of DHL as her certificate would reach her still or she should use the DHL service?

So Barclays decided to be unfortunate today and blocked my account. I didn’t even realise until I went grocery shopping and wanted to pay. Thank God for alternative bank accounts!!!

I called the number and was told it will take 7 working days for them to unblock it. The rep couldn’t give a plausible explanation as regards why it happened. He asked me silly questions like did I receive a lump sum recently and I told him I did and I have proof of its legitimacy so kiwani problem yin

Is that a reason for my account to be flagged

He however, gave me an alternative to go over the counter tomorrow to withdraw my money. God knows I’m withdrawing every penny there. Rubbish bank.

I checked their Facebook page and I was appalled by the number of people that have had similar issues in the past weeks. One was a single mum that had four mouths to feed and she was left penniless while isolating. These people are so mean. Gosh.

My people, I am going to Nottingham around Jan 9, 2021 with my wife and 3 kids, the issue is I have been trying to get a 3 bedroom flat from Nottingham to Derby to no avail. Most agents/landlords want employed people. My sister and her hubby there cant even secure a viewing, they live in a small 2 bed flat, that once the agents hear its a PG student with family, they say sorry they don't lease to students. Pls advise. I need a place to land with my family even if na 2 bedroom. I have a boy (10) and 2 girls (8 and 5).

Hehehe! My dad paid some money into my account when I was a student, that’s how Barclays put a flag on my account o. For almost 3 years, I didn’t know, one day I called to ask to upgrade my account from student, that’s how the advisor mistakenly let slip that there was a flag on my account.

As I ended the call, I opened bank with FD. I can’t shout.

No vex too much, open another bank.

Maybe it’s cos I don’t have children, but I don’t understand why anyone will travel with husband and two children to a new place, without securing a place to stay first.

All of you in the family already got visa, they won’t lose the visa if they wait in Nigeria for one month, while you go and find a place to stay.

It’s easier.

You can then stay in Airbnb while searching for a home, acclimatising to weather and understanding the area.

I have Santander and Starling. I’m going in branch after school runs to withdraw and put in Santander. I don’t have the energy to be chasing them with calls, if they like, they should take aeons to conclude their investigation. Very rubbish bank.

Thanks ma’am.

1. Rent an Airbnb for a minimum of 1 month and be prepared to extend it for a further 2 to 4 weeks if necessary. The Covid situation has unfortunately rendered such properties relatively cheaper than they were before, and many give discounts for long stays, so you should generally be able to get one that will cost you averagely about what you would pay in rent + utilities had you been in your own flat for that month.
2. Arrive the UK either alone or with your family, up to you. Best to arrive as much in advance of your school start date as possible.
3. Start househunting.
4. Be prepared to pay rent upfront, anything from 3 to 6 months as a lump sum, given your lack of history in the UK which many landlords may hold
against you. When you view houses make this offer explicit to the agent who shows you the place.
5. If you're looking for a 2 bedroom, with a family of 5, better get yourself acquainted with and ready for the [gender] overcrowding rules some agents might cite to you.

Hi,

so I just want to point out this “ Maybe it’s cos I don’t have children”. I have seen you use something similar to that line and after the line, you add accurate/real advice which are very right in the given situation at the time of usage. I think you don’t have to add that line anymore as there are not much difference with people with “kid” n “without kid”, for me it’s just a simple difference and I will make it short:

When we make plans, we have different option to actualize our goal, but lets work with just 3 options: good option, better option, and best option. This options are based on so many factor, in most cases Cash is the determining factor followed by safety (depending on who’s planning), it would have been safety first, but being from a struggling country, we tend to put money first before security.

For people “without kids” there are that three options depending on personality. But for people “with kids” it’s just one option which is the best option, because kid(s) don’t know that our Nigeria or the world is a hustle, so you tend to make it easier for them, so that they make it easier for you too. That said, your advice is always on point since it’s always the best option for oneself.

With this point of mine, I hope I have been able to convince you but not to confuse you that science class is better than commercials class... thank you

Hi,

Adding to what GuyfromHr said, I advice you get an Airbnb apartment for one month or less (depending on your believe). The price is almost same as what you will pay for renting an apartment with the bills added. So it’s a win win situation. I used this option but got for 15nights as I have other plans and ways to go about the house hunting thing.

Airbnb is an American company so it means general charges are in dollars, I advice you open a dom account (if you don’t have one), then get PTA in few dollars to deposit in the dom account, this way you can pay for the Airbnb apartment with the dorm account with very little charge from your bank. Since the company is an American company, there will be no conversion charge, just transfer/payment charge. With this option you get extra dollars in your dorm account, should there be need to extend your Airbnb stay as a result of delay in getting an apartment.

For safety and security, i think it may not be a good idea to stay with someone this times. Not just for yourself and family, but for the person you will stay with too. I think the Airbnb is the only best option at the moment considering everything happening right now. Then the next best option will be arranging extra 3 or 6months for fast securing of accommodation. That’s lot of money, but I think that’s the best at the moment and it will help you secure accommodation faster.

Note: if you go with the dorm account thing, don’t use the card from your dorm account to buy things or withdraw cash from the atm machine o, if you try this, you will forever hate Nigeria and Nigerian banks. Them go use scissors cut you with charges (starting from conversion from dollar to pounds, to charges for card atm usage or pos usage). Only use the card as your last option in UK and if it’s gonna save your life. Other than that, you go vex well well if u use am for Uk oooo.

Best of luck to you and Fam.

My oga who earns shitload has just his natwest bank account was surprised when I told him I have about 10. The way to go in this country is to maintain multiple accounts, even if you just pay in 5 pounds and withdraw it every month. That is maintenance.

Hello everyone, please I need advice on how to handle this situation.
I got into UK in October through student Tier 4 visa. After completing visa verification from school, they sent a mail that my brp was not produced due to home office technical issues.
I have sent mails and called for help till this morning, school keeps saying they can't fast track home office process.

What can I do in this distress?
Is it wise to contact the home office by my self?(school advised I let them handle the situation).
Has body experienced this before?
Your experience and advice will be of great help. Thanks
