Hello everyone, please I need advice on how to handle this situation.
I got into UK in October through student Tier 4 visa. After completing visa verification from school, they sent a mail that my brp was not produced due to home office technical issues.
I have sent mails and called for help till this morning, school keeps saying they can't fast track home office process.

What can I do in this distress?
Is it wise to contact the home office by my self?(school advised I let them handle the situation).
Has body experienced this before?
Your experience and advice will be of great help. Thanks
What distress is it causing you? Home office will issue the BRP when they are ready.

If the school said you should let them handle it why don't you trust that ...... I guess it's the way Nigeria don deal with person that gives some trust issues

However since you got in since Oct then that a long time. However covid is also impacting many timelines. I dont see any harm in contacting home office yourself as well..... yes yes call them .

This is pandemic time so any hiccups you just have to be patient even if you need it to find work/ get NI) . Covid era / pandemic needs plan A , B and C as things can go not as planned

How would they show that they have right to be in the country legally?
How would they get a job without that BRT?

I can't open a normal account, get NI, or register with GP. The date of my transit vignette will soon expire. Is that not enough distress?

Your school should be able to give you a letter to enable you open a bank account. NI, as I have heard comes with the BRP so no worries there. Again the letter from your school should be okay for the GP but if not, still no need to worry. If you are sick, you will be treated. The expiry of the Vignette should not be a problem since the Home Office themselves are the ones responsible for the delay.
In summary, no need to worry. Face your studies and you will get your BRP soon. Just periodically check with your school or Home Office.

The student visa BRP doesn't come with NI at the moment and BRP information is needed for NI applications. Most banks (except fully digital banks) will require the status letter from the school in addition to the student's passport and BRP; Monzo used to allow account opening with a foreign passport but not sure if that's changed now.

School letter is usually not enough. Banks still need a copy of customer's UK residence. NI with BRP is only auto for Tier 2 holders. As he's a student, he will need to go through the process of obtaining one. Pre-Covid, DWP used to interview and verify work status but not sure now. I suspect they send the necessary documents or they social distance.

Hiya,

Raise hell! Call Home Office and send emails and copy your school. Mine was delayed when I came in as a Tier 2 worker. I sent emails and emails and called and called. I may have looked and sounded stupid but hey when push comes to shove tomorrow, everyone will clean up their acts and ask what you did. As long as your visa (vignette) was issued, please follow up AGGRESSIVELY with these guys (International Office and Home Office) with formal emails and copy everyone necessary. Let them also know the mental and health impact the delay is having on you. It is not your fault that they gave you visa and are overwhelmed with backlogs or have technical issues. You paid and you demand services be rendered (abi you never complete your visa payment?).

Your guiding rule when dealing with the international office of your HEI is that they are mostly British and Europeans who don't need a visa and don't understand the implications of a delayed BRP. They will follow their guidelines religiously like robots - it is your responsibility to follow up carefully and persistently.

I am experiencing something similar. I am a Tier 2 holder and I arrived in November. I have been to the post office twice (last time was last week) but my BRP was not there. I have also used the report function twice on gov.uk but got no response. Shey you still even got response that it has not been produced due to technical issues. I learnt there could be exceptional cases where BRP may have delays. I am sure they will produce it. Keep following up with Home office. I know of someone that arrived in September and his BRP was not issued till December. He was just checking the post office till he got it. I have resolved not to even check again till next month but I will keep following up by using the report functionality and escalate by sending an email to home office. I understand your frustration that you can't do some settling in stuff but I opened a monzo account with just my passport and I think Barclays accept it too. The major issue there is that once your vignette expires and your brp is still not out, I am not sure it is advisable for you to travel out of UK.

So Barclays decided to be unfortunate today and blocked my account. I didn’t even realise until I went grocery shopping and wanted to pay. Thank God for alternative bank accounts!!!

I called the number and was told it will take 7 working days for them to unblock it. The rep couldn’t give a plausible explanation as regards why it happened. He asked me silly questions like did I receive a lump sum recently and I told him I did and I have proof of its legitimacy so kiwani problem yin

Is that a reason for my account to be flagged

He however, gave me an alternative to go over the counter tomorrow to withdraw my money. God knows I’m withdrawing every penny there. Rubbish bank.

May we not be unfortunate in life by experiencing some useless attitudes from these UK banks. Only God can quantify how much losses businesses have incurred from these clowns due to their accounts being closed and funds withheld in some cases all based on computer programs classifying one as risk. I don tire for UK banks. Their madness and robotic set up is now appalling. Sincerely, them be one chance.

As you don enter their red book, it's better to avoid them and have more bank accounts open. What is funny though is that the real maye's who are known criminals would be allowed to continue banking with them and receiving their funds all because of what the bank gets from them (serious commissions). IF HSBC weren't fined billions years ago by the US, we for dey think say them be saints - awon werey.

Hello house, who can throw more light on this credit card functions here. What's the main purpose of this card for here.

Like with HSBC Bank credit cards,

Which of the credit card package is good to apply for ? as someone who is here on Tier 2 Visa. Which one is for mortgage and loan.
Then this credibility score on credit card what's it all about?

Please someone should enlighten me.

Appreciate your input sir. I’ve done the needful, went in branch today and transferred every penny to Santander.

It’s very obvious that Barclays is a terrible bank. They were fined heavily yesterday for terrible customer service.

Hi,

so I just want to point out this “ Maybe it’s cos I don’t have children”. I have seen you use something similar to that line and after the line, you add accurate/real advice which are very right in the given situation at the time of usage. I think you don’t have to add that line anymore as there are not much difference with people with “kid” n “without kid”, for me it’s just a simple difference and I will make it short:

When we make plans, we have different option to actualize our goal, but lets work with just 3 options: good option, better option, and best option. This options are based on so many factor, in most cases Cash is the determining factor followed by safety (depending on who’s planning), it would have been safety first, but being from a struggling country, we tend to put money first before security.

For people “without kids” there are that three options depending on personality. But for people “with kids” it’s just one option which is the best option, because kid(s) don’t know that our Nigeria or the world is a hustle, so you tend to make it easier for them, so that they make it easier for you too. That said, your advice is always on point since it’s always the best option for oneself.

With this point of mine, I hope I have been able to convince you but not to confuse you that science class is better than commercials class... thank you
grin grin

I can’t believe how hard I laughed when I got to the end grin

My dear, I have to state my situation o, because not having children makes things a bit easier, as I now care only about me. I believe having children makes things a lot different.

So I state my situation to let people not attack me as being “selfish”, and giving them advice without understanding their situation (Just in case they think my situation is different from theirs).

If a single person gives advice to married people, what is the next thing people would say?

Exactly.

I wish I could like your comment more than once. I feel for her but you’re absolutely right, it’s distrust.

If the poster needs the BRP to work, they just has to show the apology letter that Home Office sent. If school is aware, the poster is covered. I don’t see any reason else the person would panic.

You don’t need a BRP to open a bank account. If needed the school can help out.
If they need a job, the apology letter that Home Office sent can suffice. They don’t owe anyone anyone a BRP to prove their Right to be in the country, when the issuers of that right already said they can’t give you yet. All the person has to do is show the email/letter. Period.

Hmmmm. You no lie. I think they bring that “you are not married, so you no go understand “ or “you don’t have a child” thing just to make one feel bad or just to win over a conversation. Trust me, the difference is little if the kid is prepared and planed for. I have just one, mayb that’s why I feel this way, but I strongly believe if you go by your capacity an ability, the difference ain’t that much.
