Story story

I apreciate if you guys can post answers in my thread

https://www.nairaland.com/6307465/g-wagon-restoration-car-guru

I recently bought a W640 G230 Mercedes benz, unfortunately the car was vandalized by the previous owner who installed a mb M111 (C class 4cylinder engine in the car) oviosly the engine has no power to pull this car, i am a lover of vintage cars and i want to restore this car, the interior of the car is destroyed so i will fix a custom dashboard and center console,so i am flexible in terms of The Instrument Clauster.

I'll do body work, upholstery and painting after the mechanical part

I was told by some kazeems to install a nissan patrol engine so that the 4 wheel drive option will be restored unto the car for me it's not an option ( i searched the internet) and some people have successfully done that swap but its a cabŕeuttor eingine and that's a no no for me

So i searched further and i saw a build with a Toyota Jz1 in Indonesia mad fast and looked very good i don't know how realistic that kind of swap is in Nigeria.

I have a friend in SA who put a Mitsubishi engine in his G, he doesn't know much about cars so he couldn't tell me very much about how it was done but again i have heared of keke engine inside camery and i don't want that kind of something

Last but not least i was considering a M104 ( from a S class) the issue is still that this were rear wheel drives as far as i know so i don't know how well that will drive and look? Also the transmittion inside the car will also work with this engine, i guess? Since the M104 is like a 6 cylinder version of the M111?

Is there any way i can get ECU,OBD and co to work? Probably not but may be atleast the check engine, oil and other lamps

IKENNA / GAZZUZZ AND CO ABEG COME AND HELP A BROTHER

disclaimer: i am a car dealer but i don't have any kind of training as a mechanic or anything automotive related just the little exprience I've gathered my young life, so please speak english i can understand lol.

You see... Folks aren't even talking or answering you... How the hell did you get to that level... Installing a nissan in. Benz... I don't get it

Best bet .. get a benz V6 engine in that ride... From 320 capacity engine ... Anything apart from this ... We are out.

What makes a benz isn't the body but the engine... I suggest 350 engine though it's pricey , arius 350k - 400k or get a 320 engine around 200k

Holy fücking moses.... How did you end up with that seff?

You didn't state the mileage you cover in a week and the mileage he covers in a week too. You didn't state his driving style neither did you state yours. You haven't stated your cars health, neither did you bring to light his.

No one says you shouldn't.

But if you're trying to prove a point, you're not doing a good job.

I am currently comparing the Gl 450 2008 Honda pilot 2009 and the Toyota highlander 2008, I really don't know which to go for, I am more inclined towards the pilot as I used the 06 model before but I would like to give the Benz a try, Is there anything I should be afraid of as regards the Benz?

It depends on what you want ... To me highlander shouldn't be compared to GL

GL is a V8 machine engine full 4matic

Highlander is V6 either FWD or AWD

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has three available engines. The base GL450 is powered by a 4.6-liter, 335-horsepower V8. The GL320 CDI is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that makes 215 horsepower. The GL550, new for 2008, gets a powerful 5.5-liter V8 that makes 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.
This luxury SUV provides an excellent driving experience, with nearly every review noting, as New Car Test Drive does, that "the Mercedes-Benz GL 450 is large and capable off road yet feels surprisingly car-like on the road." This is in large part thanks to its unibody construction, instead of the body-on-frame construction that is typically used in most large SUVs and trucks. Edmunds notes the GL "manages to present itself with a touch of class. Its mechanical sophistication, unit-body construction and superior craftsmanship also set it apart from other seven-passenger full-sizers"

Toyota Highlander Engine & Performance.
Four Wheel Drive or front wheel
Engine Type: Gas V6.Displacement: 3.5L/- TBD -Horsepower 270 @ 6200.Torque (Net @ RPM): 249 @ 4700.Mostly 5 seaters

I don't even want to talk about Honda and transmission issues ...it depends ...GL is more powerful engine and a true SUV , while I consider highlander as a crossover , it drives like car ....though GL is more expensive to maintain, it's a luxury car anyway and. It would give you what you want. Highland might be cheaper to maintain but in the long run I think GL is cheaper because benz parts last longer though a bit expensive....the only challange I have with the GL is the balloon...I don't know if 2008 do come with balloon

A lot to be afraid of pls.

You're coming from an 06 Pilot which probably had the dreaded transmission and the rear suspension squat issues, doesn't mean you should try the GL. The GL is an advanced technology and very complex. It competes with the 2008-2012 S class as a flagship model for Benz.
The suspension is air suspension and when they fail, they'll hit your pocket hard.
The intake manifold runner flaps also fails and these will cause misfires, loss of power, stalling etc.
The front rear SAM module failure could cause the power operated boot, tail lamps etc not to operate. These will cost you some good amount of cash.
The 7G tronic 722.9 transmission was in its early stages of integration during that era and was known to fail especially its Valve body or TCM.
Then is the vacuum air leaks and oil leaks these vehicles are known for.

Every wondered why they sell tokumbo around 7m and Nigerian used around 3m?

Your best bet of the trio will actually be a highlander because that was a new designed vehicle, its the most economical of the trio, its also not as fugly as the pilot 2nd gen, and its faster.

I'm saying this in a Mercedes Benz thread, not becauze I hate benz, but because I am a realistic person. Do not listen to folks who are going to tell you fantasies and coerce you with sweet words so you can buy their preferred brand in this benz thread. If you do, when the bills start loading, you'd be the one to bear the brunt alone.

Congratulations.... ML320 is a great ride ... A friend owns it and I have driven it, though I am into C class... That car is massive

Some dude did a review on that car and I looked it up in YouTube and the people that use it praise the SUV , it's truly an SUV and body on frame full 4matic learnt that the fuel economy is good due ti double plugs per cylinder... It uses 12 plugs making the fuel economy good....

Did a lot of research on that SUV... I love the 2003 - 2005 model

Watch this video, pay particular attentions to reviews of people that own the car and have used it... They just said the truth...

W163 I think from what they said is a great SUV all over the world ....

Why not look at a 2007/2008 Acura MDX? It's better than the GL and the Highlander. Cheaper too.

If you want to do her well, buy an RX330 or something. Very comfortable ride.

That ML is awful. Awful ride quality, awful road manners, rust issues, electronic issues.

Just friendly advice. wink
