Brother Rest pls, you have tried
This thread have always been like this.
Most people here who disagrees with you only do so for you to say more...they just want to get more of your knowledge and experience.

I know of one who always will say "Benz cars are money pits and overhyped piece of junks"
His posts here will always discourage people from anything Benz.....he even has a signature on his handle that humiliates the Benz brand.

Ordinarily, one will think that a person like that will never have anything to do with any Benz vehicle....but today the same character owns a Mercedes Benz, a model he will tag as "old Benz" and he is very proud of it cheesy
Proud enough to show off on this forum.

Not as if they don't know all you post are facts, they just want you to say more, they want to learn more and tap from your experience grin grin grin

Oh yes, I remember the fellow ... Just that we are here to engage and discuss or fa pyrite car which is Benz .. be it 190, V Boot, C class or even flat booth... Once it hasa3 star it is a benz

It is unfortunate that a lot of folks take some of these things personal and they feel that everyone must see from their perspectives...

I have learnt a whole lot here .. pertaining to benz , a lot of people read also and might not comment but they are learning and taking advisory services

So it is funny when people act funny here... Most time I ignore and move on.. those I can engage I do, but once it's getting nasty I take a leave

Benz isn't a money pit if well maintained... That is the truth and benz product are cars for niche market... Though and I can't ajmnd haven't seen where benz said they build a perfect car but one thing is that most owners of benz find it difficult driving other cars because the Brand has quality irrespective of the model

That is the truth ...

1) Where did you see me insulting you?
2) My name is Temi Adelu-Davis and it's public knowledge. I don't hide. Come see me you know where to find me when I'm in town.

Yes sir... That is my take and the take of many smart folks... Buying a recent car or brand new car is good when it is factor of production such as logistics, transportation business , staff transport and office car... Now the car has evolved to factors of production and means to production ..

If you are a man that is still struggling and earning less than 25m annually why use 10 m to buy a GL 450 2017 model when you can still buy same GL 450 OF 2010 MODEL for less... It's basically same brand , same prestige different model and trust me few people know the differences.i don't even know the differences in 2005 and 2007 C Class to me they look alike it's only people that are deep into cars do know like dealers and mechanics ...trust me 80% of folks don't know

Why impress folks...if you are married,if your wife is okay with the car and you have focus on life, you don't go channging cars every year until you arrive ...you can't be a tenant or a salaried man channging cars yearly...I have seen folks in premium tears when the chips are down ....

Read this article by CNBC one of the best global finance network...they did a research on this https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/11/04/follow-this-simple-rule-for-car-buying-if-you-want-to-get-rich-says-millionaire-money-expert.html

But it's an individual thing, I have seen folks that are crazy about car models, I have seen folks that are crazy about phones (they can buy phones worth of 1 million) I have seen folks that are crazy about women ...so it all depends on individuals

But as they say common sense ain't common after all...there is a time when one can buy decent and recent car ...it all depends on the priority....here is Nigeria we don't do trade off or lease so the economy doesn't support that ..even in USA that they do...many of them do that in credit (meaning they are in debt for a long time ) that is what it is ...why not use that for mortgage payment ?

Though, age factors are there...younger boys would love to impress folks and also what one does for a living

My take is simple...whatever car you have , make sure you get it well maintained...I have seen cars that do 300k on millage and super neat and I have seen 2017 cars that are terrible..so it's an individual thing

I don't personally follow crowd and looks cann be deceptive.

After one year, your car will probably be worth about 20% less than what you bought it for. AFTER FIVE YEARS: After that steep first-year dip, that new car will depreciate by 15–25% every year until it hits the five-year mark. So, after five years, that new car will lose around 60% of its value.

https://www.daveramsey.com/blog/car-depreciation#:~:text=After%20one%20year%2C%20your%20car,around%2060%25%20of%20its%20value.
I wish this depreciation analysis was also applied to our beloved Toyota Corolla here in Nigeria

OH really!!!
Can you explain why someone who bought a corolla at 1.5m 5years is selling for the same amount today.

Instead of a car to be depreciating over time.
This particular one is appreciating.
I know you will want to tell me it's cus of demand and Nigerian factor.

There lies the argument cause this is a car we are talking about here too.

It takes the buyer not to be unfortunate by paying such nonsense sum. There are better options in the marketplace

read the review on top from a benz user .... It is not a Japanese .. it's a car for men not boys

So have this in mind... ML is an amazing SUV , body on frame .. from 320 to 450 and AMG with Brabus

It's a great SUV and the 4matic in them is awesome

I appreciate that it’s a great suv but I wanted to know if there are good benz specialists in Kano State.

It depends on what you want ... To me highlander shouldn't be compared to GL

GL is a V8 machine engine full 4matic

Highlander is V6 either FWD or AWD

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has three available engines. The base GL450 is powered by a 4.6-liter, 335-horsepower V8. The GL320 CDI is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that makes 215 horsepower. The GL550, new for 2008, gets a powerful 5.5-liter V8 that makes 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.
This luxury SUV provides an excellent driving experience, with nearly every review noting, as New Car Test Drive does, that "the Mercedes-Benz GL 450 is large and capable off road yet feels surprisingly car-like on the road." This is in large part thanks to its unibody construction, instead of the body-on-frame construction that is typically used in most large SUVs and trucks. Edmunds notes the GL "manages to present itself with a touch of class. Its mechanical sophistication, unit-body construction and superior craftsmanship also set it apart from other seven-passenger full-sizers"

Toyota Highlander Engine & Performance.
Four Wheel Drive or front wheel
Engine Type: Gas V6.Displacement: 3.5L/- TBD -Horsepower 270 @ 6200.Torque (Net @ RPM): 249 @ 4700.Mostly 5 seaters

I don't even want to talk about Honda and transmission issues ...it depends ...GL is more powerful engine and a true SUV , while I consider highlander as a crossover , it drives like car ....though GL is more expensive to maintain, it's a luxury car anyway and. It would give you what you want. Highland might be cheaper to maintain but in the long run I think GL is cheaper because benz parts last longer though a bit expensive....the only challange I have with the GL is the balloon...I don't know if 2008 do come with balloon
I saw where you wrote that ML is body on frame. I let that slide until you called Highlander a crossover and ML "a real SUV." I laugh.

No SUV Mercedes produces is a real "SUV" in real sense except the G-wagon (full body on frame). The GL you're talking is unibody (and uses same chassis as ML) and any other Mercedes high-standing vehicles (including the picanto-like GLA which also bears "SUV"wink is a crossover in real terms just like the Highlander. In fact, the Toyota Highlander is more capable as an SUV than the GL/ML because it's a more rugged and comes with more offroad features. Please. You people in this forum like to use heavy words you don't even understand and you always end up making me laugh cheesy grin

Most people on this thread have no idea what they're talking about. They just parrot garbage.

The only true SUVs Mercedes has made is the G Wagon and the first-gen ML.

Iam not here for argument

Mercedes-Benz is no newcomer to the four-wheel drive world, but its previous entries have been more all-terrain utility vehicles for serious backcountry use than the civilized, at-home-anywhere vehicle that is the modern sport-utility. The M-Class, represented for 1998 by the ML320, has certainly changed that situation. It is an all-new "clean sheet" design that combines all of the best comfort and handling features of a car with body-on-frame truck ruggedness and off-road ability. To that end, the M-Class utilizes a new chassis, new engine, and unique styling. Even the factory in which it is built is new. Acknowledging the importance of the U.S. to the company's future, the M-Class is built in the U.S., near Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

You cann read this https://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/new/reviews/1998/russ9823.html

Mercedes wants you to forget you are driving a truck. They succeed. Worst case, you feel like you are driving a compact minivan. The truck's relatively short wheelbase provides a ride that can get choppy on Michigan's awful roads, but at all times the degree of ride control is car-like. Tossing the body-on-frame M-Class, a verb I usually reserve for sporting cars, is quite possible and encouraged by the responsive steering and willing suspension. Independent suspension at all corners is the reason, and it provides dramatic proof of how antiquated the underpinnings of those other lesser trucks really are. Braking is through 4 wheel disks controlled by ABS. Stops are strong and straight, and yes, car-like.
