This is an update on the 8- lanes federal highway linking Port Harcourt and Obigbo in Rivers state. This particular road equally links parts of eastern Nigeria with Niger Delta. This road has been really dilapidated for many years until now.

Federal Government of Nigeria
That is part of East-West Road

Please, kindly check well before commenting.

This is Part of the PH - ENUGU Expressway instead.

East-West road only crossed the road at Eleme junction.

Again, the fact that this is apparently being done only on the RIVERS STATE section of the express, will tell any discerning person that the road project was most likely initiated by the Rivers State Government (Of course, in hopes of getting refund from the FG in the future) Many State Government do this/or has done this in the past (just in case you are among those who believe that once a project is ongoing at a federal road, it must then be an FG project)

This is not to argue who is better between Rivers Gov & FG, or who should take the glory. It's just to set the records straight.

Thank you.

Do you now want to link this project to WIKED of a man so as to appease Obigbo people against the massacre of their innocent souls
Souls of both dead & living are still bleeding in search of vengeance.
Everyone involved will surely pay for his or her evil deeds.

Why not take pictures of inside Obigbo link roads and show us here

Tell who sent you that he has failed okay

Highway linking Portharcourt and Obigbo? That is Enugu - PHC expressway and not PHC to Obigbo link road.

You can see a dirty Police checkpoint on the video, meanwhile they are no where to be found between Kankara and Zamfara state

It is a high quality road project
. The portion that they have constructed is not up to two kilometers and they have been on it since 2014. You just went and snapped the small portion that is constructed in order to come and spread false information of road construction.

in as much as I appluade d Rivers State Government for bringing such development cos at all at all na ein bad pass, I still want to put up my own observation as regards the design of this road as a civil engineer. yes it's materials and design mix might be of standard but the supervisory team should have noted the fact that a road of such magnitude should have been constructed with great consideration to the surrounding habitat and not just constructing just for business sake. what I mean is this...I have plyed the said road countlessly and I observed that the road was built at a very high altitude, much higher than the surrounding structures and habitation around it. what this means is during the rainy season, the entire catchment area will be flooded, if not submerged by water because the road which has such magnitude of area covered is the highest point of the catchment area. if you are a good observer, the exact opposite was done with road construction done by Julius beger at elelenwo, allowing runoff from different source of the catchment area flow into d road while the road and it's well built underground drainage system carries the runoff down to the final dispatch points (rivers, streams, and other flowing water bodies around the catchment area). this is one of the reasons why Julius Berger will always be number one when it comes to civil constructions

Exactly my bro,

Indeed, most people rush to comment on a project they may know nothing about, just to glorify a government they are supporting.

I for one, believe this project is most likely a Rivers State Government project.

To the best of my knowledge, there was no Federal contract awarded for the reconstruction of Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-PH Expressway.

Rivers being a very rich state tend to do their section of Federal roads after waiting for FG long enough without answer.

They did it with the road leading to Owerri/IMO State, whereby travellers enjoy their trip till they get to Omerelu, then it's a case of nightmare down to Owerri, starting from the Imo State boundary.

I note your concerns as a fellow civil engineer. It might not entirely be the fault of the construction company. Every project is supposed to have an EIA- Environmental Impact Assessment , this would have taken care of the some of the challenges you raised. The question is was it done by the relevant authorities including the Ministry of works.

This road is the road with the worst EIA.
Theb; people living on the adjoining parts of this road has been suffering flooding, all the road developers could do is build a 0.5-1.5meter above the ground level without proper plans to drain the runoff from the build up areas to Imo Rivers which is on the other end of the road.

The road will certainly remain but people living off the PH Aba express way, you flooding is about to enter the worst level when this road is completed.

Federal Govt. Constructed by the wicked Chinese Contractors. They have been on the road for 5 years now, with some calamities arising from not providing access road. This project is a pointer to the point that, there is no government in Nigeria. Governance in Nigeria is dead, it made the chines contractor to suffer Nigerians anyhow.

exactly my point. that was why I mentioned the supervisory team, which of cos includes the engineers from d ministry of works, could have pointed that out. moreover the commonest observation of an EIA of any road construction includes this very same observation I pointed out. it's basic. and let's be honest even the construction company knows this but because of d amount of work it will take to make more excavation, the stress of making good underground tunnels and drainage system, and the fear of having a the road detoriate faster when it is below and supposedly collect runoff and also knowing the quality of material and design that ought to be done to avoid such detoriation, am sure they purposely avoided it. Julius Berger noted this in those road construction works I have observed, am sure without having any external supervisory body running an EIA for them cos it should be fundamental in any road construction
Re: 8-Lane Highway Linking Port-Harcourt & Obigbo (Pictures & Video) by chrysso83(m): 8:04pm On Dec 19, 2020
You people keep posting and celebrating rubbish.
First of all, it's not an 8 lane road, it's 4 lane.
A less than 3km road has taken over 4 years, still no end in sight. Some say it's a 5 year project. (5 years project for less than 3km road)
Secondly, the road is not as quality as we thought it's going to be when they started. Some parts are already eating up.
Thirdly, i wonder if any environmental impact assessment was done before they started reconstructing
that road. It has caused more harm than good to property owners and people living around the area. They raised the height of the road to about 12ft above its original level. People's house now submerge when it rains. You can't even channel water from your compound or street into the supposed drainage they dug because water from the gutter will flow into your compound if you try it. So many filling stations and businesses along the road has closed shop because of flooding as a result of the road construction.
The government just want to score cheap political point with the road project nothing more.

There is nothing mediocre about that road. You don’t have to applaud, but don’t speak nonsense about the project either.

If we shouldn’t give any form of applause when the government does something good, then what should we do? Act like the structure doesn’t exist? Or insult them further for building it?
Allow people to appreciate things. This is good for Rivers people.
