Why do Christians Close their eyes during prayer?

I asked a Christian brother this question.... He said that " It is a sign of being respectful and humble to God". It disallowed distraction.

I then asked whether there are any chapters and verses in the Bible that sanctioned this. He declined.

Does closing of one eyes eliminates possibility of distraction during prayers

The brother is very right, you are not suppose to open your eyes when praying it a sign of disrespect to God, and closing of eyes during prayers makes your communication with God more spiritual and stronger.

Closing your eyes or not closing it does nothing of the such.
There is no command to close your eyes when you pray so obeying such rules amount to obeying the lies of men.

God is everywhere and not just where you pretend you pray. So unless you plan to walk around with eyes closed all of your existence, I suggest you tell that person to carry his lies go somewhere else.

Prayer is a spiritual thing meanwhile man is Too Physical so it is thought that if one shuts his eyes he may be able to unlock his spiritual nature so that he could effectively pray.

The Law is "The Lord is seeking those who shall worship Him in Spirit (Where He is) and in Truth" not schemings and plannings and all the pisses you have in your soul.

Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus Christ or God has called you to. Your celebration or not of it has absolutely nothing to do with God really wants of you.

It's not compulsory you close your eyes or open it depends on your state of mind. You may choose to open and close due to the condition of the heart.
I prefer closing my eyes most times whenever i want to concentrate to avoid distraction! smiley

It has nothing to do with jesus, but the celebration is all about the birth of our lord jesus christ, how do you explain that.

Where in the Bible did Jesus Christ command that you celebrate His birth? Better still, what "brownie" points do you earn with God for celebrating Xmas?

I celebrate Xmas as a holiday available for me to kick it with food and booze. I sing carols and decorate because it is all fun to do. That's alright and all. But when you pretend you celebrate it on behalf of God, then you reveal your delusion, a delusion which has absolutely nothing to do with God or His word.

There is... King Pharaoh (Genesis 40:20) and king Herod (Matthew 14:6).
Are they servants of the true God, Jehovah?
Or are they pagans? Galatians 4:8-11
Pls confirm it in your Bible.

* Galatians 4:8-11 (Genesis 40:20 & Matthew 14:6)

8
Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist.
9
So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?
10
You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years.
11
I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing."

When Jesus prayed on Gethsemane, he didn't close his eyes because it was a dangerous time, he even scolded his disciples who closed their eyes, pretending that they were praying but were actually sleeping....

I think you misunderstand what the passage is about sir. The book of Galatians in general was a polemic against the Judaizers (Those who tried to make it mandatory for gentile converts to Christianity to observe the mosaic laws). The passage here is referring to observance of Jewish Sabbath and other feast days...(basically trying to be justified by the law).
It has nothing to do with Christmas or birthdays celebrations in general sir.

There's no law for or against celebrating Christmas or any other birthday. If someone chooses to celebrate it, that's fine. If another person chooses not to, that's also equally ok.

5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. - Romans 14: 5-6
(The entire chapter is talking about mutual forbearance in things like this)

Bros, where all Christians former Judaizers prior to conversion ?

Galatians 4:8-10, was the Mosaic law for gods that do not exist?

Was the Mosaic law "useless, weak spiritual principles of this world"?

Bros, how you dey read & study your Bible sef?

Was king Pharaoh a servant of the true God?
Was king herod of Judea a servant of the true God?

Genesis 40:20, Matthew 14:6 and Galatians 4:8-11 means desist from annual birthdays celebrations and other pagan practices.
It is the biblical principles we are looking at squarely.
Shalom
