kokomilala:Quite right! the gospel never mentions the number of Magi, but most western Christian denominations have traditionally assumed them to have been three in number, based on the statement that they brought three gifts |

michresakidjo:This is fake. The 3 wise men were herod personal wise men. Herod was king of judea and was appointed by the Roman empire. These three wise men were herod personal wise men and they were from Mesopotamia, somewhere in the east, perhaps Persia or Babylonia. They were educated and we could call them professors in philosophy. Herod told these men to go bring the child but when they found him ,they worshipped him. Their names are Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar] |

Op, nice write-up but the conclusion about the identity of the wise men from the East is wrong, since it doesn't support the general theme of the Bible. Contrary to popular Christmas tradition, the Bible does not use the terms “three wise men” or “three kings” to describe the travelers who went to see Jesus after his birth. (Matthew 2:1) Instead, the Gospel writer Matthew used the Greek word ma’goi to describe those who visited Jesus. The word likely refers to experts in astrology and other occult practices. A number of Bible translations call them “astrologers” or “magi.” How many “wise men” were there? The Bible does not say, and traditions about their number vary. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, “Eastern tradition sets the number of Magi at 12, but Western tradition sets their number at three, probably based on the three gifts of ‘gold, frankincense, and myrrh’ (Matthew 2:11) presented to the infant.” Were the “wise men” kings? Although in Christmas tradition the visitors are often depicted that way, nowhere does the Bible call them kings. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, that designation was added centuries later as part of the traditions that “embellished the narrative.” When did the “wise men” visit Jesus? The astrologers may have visited Jesus a number of months after his birth. This is evident because King Herod, who wanted to have Jesus killed, ordered the slaughter of boys who were two years old and younger. He based that age range on information he had received from the astrologers.—Matthew 2:16. The astrologers did not visit Jesus on the night of his birth. The Bible says: “When they went into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother.” (Matthew 2:11) This indicates that the family were by then living in a house and that Jesus was no longer an infant in a manger.—Luke 2:16. Did God have the “wise men” follow the “star” of Bethlehem? Some people believe that God sent the so-called star of Bethlehem to guide the astrologers to Jesus. Consider why that cannot be the case. What appeared to be a star led the astrologers first to Jerusalem. The Bible says: “Astrologers from the East came to Jerusalem, saying: ‘Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when we were in the East, and we have come to do obeisance to him.’”—Matthew 2:1, 2. King Herod, not the “star,” was the first to direct the astrologers to Bethlehem. When he heard of a rival “king of the Jews,” Herod investigated where the promised Christ was to be born. (Matthew 2:3-6) On learning that it was to be in Bethlehem, he told the astrologers to go there, look for the child, and report back to him. Only then did the astrologers go to Bethlehem. The Bible says: “After they had heard the king, they went their way, and look! the star they had seen when they were in the East went ahead of them until it came to a stop above where the young child was.”—Matthew 2:9 The appearance of the “star” set in motion events that threatened the life of Jesus and resulted in the murder of innocent children. When the astrologers left Bethlehem, God warned them not to return to Herod.—Matthew 2:12. How did Herod react? The Bible says: “Herod, seeing that he had been outwitted by the astrologers, flew into a great rage, and he sent out and had all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts killed, from two years of age and under, according to the time that he had carefully ascertained from the astrologers.” (Matthew 2:16) God would not have caused such a wicked thing to be done.—Job 34:10 (So listen to me, you men of understanding: It is unthinkable for the true God to act wickedly, For the Almighty to do wrong!) |

EhisChelsea1:I equally disagree with you in most parts of ur write-up just as u did with the guy u quoted.First of all,de star didn't lead them directly to King Herod's house for the baby as u said. That the visited Herod's palace doesn't mean the star led them to his house. Two things might have inspired their visit to Herod: Jerusalem was the capital of Israel n therefore the seat of government.Courtsy demands that any foreign mission report to the Head of government there first for inquiries, clearance n or directives before carrying out their missions. So it was a matter of diplomacy.Secondly, the kingship in those days was hereditary. So they might have thought that the newly borned king should be from Herod's lineage.Hence, reason for their visit. It was went the left the king's palace enroute Bethlehem that the same star they saw in the East reappearing n giving them directions. Another point u raised is the issue of who were designated as "wisemen" in those days.U r correct by saying that dey we're men who understands de times and seasons.Weda some of dem got the inspiration from God or from the devil, dey we're all termed Wiseman. But you seemed to conclude that these particular wisemen were the astrologers n magicians from Satan n not from God.Dont you think that those wisemen from the East might have well been children/prophet of God from the lost tribe of Issachar who av bin on exile in the East for thousands of years? The scripture described the children of Issachar as Wisemen who understands the times and seasons. So my conclusion is that, those wisemen might have well been men of God n de star the saw from God also.Remember, even God later spoke to them in the dream. |

jesusjnr2020:Exactly! Remember Jesus is a prophet like Moses. He escaped death by that pagan ruler too under Satan's control that lead to mass murder of innocent babies then Now,the information conveyed to these men did not lead to any good right?..it lead to the wholesale murder of innocent babies. Who do you think would be responsible for this? Remember, God cannot caused such a wicked thing to be done.—Job 34:10. |

LilBlaze24o:Nobody said it was an act God that Herod killed the innocent children. But the entire mission of the wisemen from the East was an act of God.because it was to acknowledge Jesus as the King of Kings. To show that he will be worshipped by all men on the surface of earth as the saviour of the whole world.Any other thing that king Herod did expecially de massacre of the infant boys was the act of satan.Cos killing, stealing n destruction is the handiwork of satan but acknowledging n worshipping ofJesus as the saviour of the whole world n king of Kings is an act of God, which was exactly what the wisemen did. |
