Former England captain Alan Shearer says he would "not be so sure" about Arsenal's chances of Premier League survival at the end of this season.

The Gunners have made their worst start to a season since the 1974-75 campaign and lie 15th in the table.

They have 14 points from 14 games and have lost eight of those matches.

Asked if they will stay up, Shearer replied: "I wouldn't be so sure. Not with that starting team and the attitude of some of those players."

The 2-1 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday left Mikel Arteta's side four points above the relegation zone.

The Gunners have not scored from open play in any of their past five top-flight games away from home.

Nicolas Pepe, the club's record £72m signing, scored just his second league goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Shearer added on Match of the Day: "Awful, no creativity, players going through the motions, not working hard enough and not closing down.

"Mikel Arteta should be a worried man relying on that group of players trying to save his job. Twelve goals all season, they have no options.

"Against Everton, Pepe was not prepared to get into the box, he was jogging, sometimes walking. He has got to do more.

"There are a few players in that team who are not giving everything for the manager. Arsenal are never going to score goals playing like that."

Arteta admitted Arsenal "are in a big fight" and the players "hurt right now".

The Spaniard added: "We need to generate more to win football matches. When it comes to small details, the other team wants it more. The boys are absolutely still fighting.

"The way the boys reacted in the dressing room tells me they have the belief. When you lose lots of games for different reasons it hurts a lot.

"We have to be better, it wasn't about Everton, it was about us."

The relegation may even be a blessing in disguise for them. Years of terrible choices in the transfer market have finally caught up with them and unfortunately it's in Arteta's tenure that it happened. Pepe, Willian, Xhaka, Mustafi, Bellerin, Holding, Ceballos, Kolasinac, David Luiz etc these players are not at the level of any premier league team at the moment yet they're all assembled in Arsenal. So maybe they should go to the championship and get some sense back.

Which of the other teams in EPL have a better squad than these squad of Arsenal players you just mentioned except maybe the top 6..

You mean these clubs that are above Arsenal in the league table have better squad than Arsenal?

Villa
West Ham United
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Newcastle United
Crystal Palace
Leeds United

Which coaching school did Arteta go to...
Which experience did he even have...

Henry and Viera are real legends of the club and have managed a handful of clubs in the past and were both vying for the job but they ended up offering it to a white guy with little or nor experience..

I don't mean to play the racism card, but why don't they give legendary black players a coaching job in top European leagues.

arsenal are too bad on form but they would surely escape relegation...arsenal are too big for that..
the league still have a long way to go, the other half is still left to play, the worst is that they would get a new coach and finish at the other half of the table...
same was talked about chelse the year after they won the league with conte, that they would get relegated but we all know how it ended..

Arteta is his own worst enemy. He allowed the club's board armtwist him into sidelining his only creative midfielder of repute (Ceballos is utter nonsense) because of some political thingy and then he brazenly lies it was for footballing reasons. They thought Ozil would be forced out, funds freed so they could recruit another creative midfielder but Ozil defied them, call it counting chickens before they are hatched. Now Arsenal is paying for it. No link between defense and attack. How can you score? Every team knows that so they allow Arsenal possession, because they know NOTHING will come of it. Sideways and "Mikel Obi" passes. Then consistently playing Xhaka and then that awful Chelsea retiree... Willian angry Oh God! His only prayer is to make it to January 1st in 15th place and re-register Ozil.

You made a valid point. But working with pep was a big bouns and arsenal wanted a yes man in charge. Just like man utd. The problem is not the coach. It's the management

Henry coached Monaco in 2019 and we all saw what that later turned out to be.
So ur point is not too valid as you may think.

You're dense.

"I don't mean to play the racism card..." I see you're a fan of DUNDEE United.

FYI, Henry was coach at Monaco but lasted barely 4 months into the job as he was awful.

Not all good players end up becoming good coaches..
Zidane being an exception.

Arteta had little experience working under Pep, Viera and Henry have little to no managerial experience.

Before the Monaco job, Henry was a pundit, proffering solutions left, right centre, till he actually became a manger and saw that things were not as he thought.

Same with Gary Neville at Valencia.. Pundit wey dey criticise, e reach Valencia, e Wan carry dem go relegation, dem sack baba.

See the rubbish Lampard is doing at Chelsea.

Don't play the race card again, sir.
