You see now everybody is advising you to go back to Abuja cos of the opportunities abound but they never bothered to know the part of Abuja you are actually staying. The whole episode is like someone who stays in some interior of Ikorodu I wonder where such person is going to meet any opportunity.

Op the fact is that you yourself should discover your own strength and channel your energy towards it. If you feel Abuja is your eldorado then I'll advice you go back there but always have lokoja as your backup arena.
God will not shame us!

You can even try Abuja suburbs for very cheap rent and get one cheap room there. But spur yourself and be confident that you'll get something tangible with prayers and hard-working

Please pardon my grammatical blunders. I have stayed in abuja since 2018 after my service and I have done some petty work work as a civil engineering graduate which doesn't measure up for survival and up till date I have not gotten a decent job.

This year has been very tough for me as I struggle to even feed. My rent in abuja will expire February and I don't have a job.

Now am in lokoja to visit my elder brother for xmass and he is in support that I should stay back in lokoja since I don't have a job in abuja and my rent will soon expire. Am totally confused now on whether to stay back or go back to abuja as this lokoja town is too dry and I don't even know how I can get a job here.

Abuja is an expensive place to stay esp when you do not have a place to stay and/or job. There is no point staying in a place where you don't have the financial resources to support your continuous stay. Unless, you are assured of at least an accommodation in Abuja, it is better you relocate to Lokoja. I was like you when I finished service, stay in Lagos (I had options of where to stay free of charge) and search for jobs or move to my parents' place and takeover the management of the family business, I chose the latter because it was cheaper and most importantly, I would be doing something and getting paid for it. Unfortunately, in your case, you don't have that family's business to work in but it is better as you as there is no available financial support or like I mentioned accommodation support. Nothing stops you from searching/applying for jobs in Abuja while in Lokoja; writing aptitude tests or doing something small in Lokoja to advance your career. But note one thing: you will be financially better in Lokoja than Abuja. Until your finances improve or you have a place to stay FOC in Abuja, stay in Lokoja.

Go back to Abuja, but keep a good relationship with your brother. He may help you raise the part of the rent. In any case, I think you shouldn't be traveling up and down when you're not economically stable. You should rather focus on raising the money for your rent even at this time of low economic activities. What exactly were you doing in Abuja? Think of more services that people can use and add them to what you were doing. Push harder and smarter. There are more opportunities out there.

Staying with your brother would have been a good idea if he was staying in a town where there are enough opportunities or if he has a strong business or connection to help you with a job at Lokoja. In the absence of all those, I assure you that he may soon tire with you or if he has a girlfriend or wife, trouble would start from that corner and you'd be back where you started.

Even though it's nothing to be proud of, some of us were homeless in Abuja and hung with friends before we found our feet. You already have an accommodation, so work hard at keeping it. Think service even as you're searching for a job. There is something for you out there.

In a practical sense, there are many services that work in the city depending on your skills. If you're fixated on getting a job, redouble your effort and search for it like your life depends on it. If you're a skillful person, I do not see how you wouldn't get a job in 2 months, but the problem with many job hunters is that they approach it leisurely.

Get a book and write down all the possible businesses you can start based on your skills. Write down the contact of people who can help you get jobs. Make 100 copies of your resume. Set a target of an or two interview in a week. Use the internet and newspapers and job boards to search for a job. Remember, 2 interviews a week will land you a job in less than two months if you're skillful. Goodl uck.

I'm just trying to say, God's time is the best and we need to be at the location that would enhance the timing of the God. Like if there's opportunities for him in Lokoja, I don't see why he should come back and suffer in Abuja but if Kogi is dry as some people report here, he doesn't have any reason to let free food and comfort take over his reasoning faculty.

Get rich or die trying things and you know, you need opportunities around you to keep trying. Everything can't fail you
When I got my first job in abuja I wasn't living in abuja. I got the job and moved to abuja. You dont have to be there to get whatever opportunity ( you think) is there. When I was leaving abuja several people were saying I should stay back that there are opportunities as if they will feed me. They are still as as I left them. Some of them have been there over 10 years, they are still waiting for that 'big opportunity'.

After reading posts, I believe my case is really different from yours because of where I resided unlike Lokoja. Well, I have stated here countless times that Kogi is a sh!thole and nothing good can come out from that place. So, I am not surprised by how "dry" Lokoja is.

Do human beings even live in Lokoja? Dusty ass, dead looking place.

Don't make the mistake of relocating to that kind of zone. Abuja is the place to be if you know what you're doing. Even if it is all those villages in Mpape or Lugbe where they have wooden houses and pit latrines (lol), just make sure you remain in the FCT and keep pushing it.

Upgrade your wardrobe, package well, and keep shooting out applications and showing your face in the right places (if you're into the job hunting kind of hustle). There's hope here bro. Hope is all you need. Yahya Bello's Lokoja is hopeless. Completely hopeless.

The thing is life is Abuja is tougher now. It's not like ten or 8 years ago when Abuja was still considerably scanty. Now a lot of people have moved to abuja especially lagosians so the competitive there is getting tougher. Obviously there should be more opportunities in abuja for jobs compared to lokoja. New estates and construction is springing up here and there in all areas.
The problem is civil engineering for a young person is not very lucrative especially if you are an employee. The oga wony pay well, they will say no money. Sometimes you might think a building project will last for 6 months only for work to stop after 4 months. They'll say the owner didnt send money. If you can try to get jobs in places like Adamawa, they will pay well. Just that you have to be cautious due to the environment (speaking from a relative experience, there is money in the core north especially for civil engineers if you are good).
If you want to stay in abuja, try living in outskirts like Masaka, afterall you can get all those long buses for 200 from masaka to town. Or you stay in Gwags. The thing with abuja is you might just jam one helper one day that will connect you and change your life but it's not that easy nowadays due to the huge population of people now living in abuja. The traffic from masaka to town is getting more tougher day by day.
I dont know the kind of job you want to do in lokoja except you want to start a business. If you have anyone in lagos, you can also relocate, at least there are jobs though rent will be expensive.

The annoying thing is those opportunities they speak of is just an illusion. There is hardly any. The big men have covetted every opportunity for themselves and their children. The crumbs are left for their minions who are all around them. Their children know these things and only fraternize among themselves.
I know people who have been there over 20 years living like rats. Dem still dey hustle and day dreaming about one big man who will help them out.
When I was there rhere was this brilliant lawyer I met. Because he wanted connection he was always hanging with one big man who turned him to his houseboy.

Bro, u are in a big trouble. I just returned to Lokoja myself this December to help my uncle with Xmas sales. If u cant afford to pay your rent, look for who to squat with for the main time. Kogi state as a whole is not beneficial to anyone but the government.
I repeat, u can't afford to stay in LOKOJA, run away from this state!

Its not easy anyhwere but if you are a real hustler, enter the streets and run drycleaning or delivery jobs.

Be diligent in what you do, network with a lot of people and keep the hustle spirit in a topnotch condition.

you can also run ecommerce there in abuja, a lot of residents have spending power.

DM me so I can send you a guide on importation of US and UK used phones and gadgets.

I wish you all the best in your sourjourn, stay blessed.

well I don't know what sort of advice you are looking for. if there's is opportunities for your growth in your present area, I don't see any reason why you should come to Abuja again if not to come pack your luggage. see in this life, we are born to fight. no matter how long the fight is, all that matters is we must win the war against the common enemy, poverty.

To have a breakthrough, you must persistent I'm and you even bothered to mind about the scars. better to cry in mansion rather than to be happy in the village. I don't know about you but I want to be wealthy. I don't have time for bullshit, I don't want to tell junior to manage or let with suffer.... God won't be happy with me even if dare.

I believe the only thing that should drive you out should be opportunities, not comfort.

on other news, if you want to move to a very cheaper place with descent rent in any area in Abuja, I'm sure you can still manage to raise the rent with menial jobs around you.

are you from gwas?

........tell me, is it the free food that is changing your mind?

well, don't forget to contact for your house rent if you later decided to stay.

I strongly believe you have no idea of what you just uttered @bolded or have experience it. After NYSC I stayed with my uncle in lekki Lagos. He have 4 children, though I am older than them all, after I attended their convocation one after the other till they all got high paying jobs. My Uncle have 3 jeeps and 3 of the children bought theirs. I was the one that wash almost all this cars, clean houses when they've left for work and run errands for the whole family. Hoping that a day they will help me out, they use to give me money for keep up, and free food, free wifi, free subscription every month. But trust me I go to bed in tears most nights, insult flows like water. My cousins that call me uncle, started calling me by name, send me errands and throws jab at me, in the presence of their parent. Anytime they want to have nice time they make me the topic and make fun of anything I do. People in the village used to envy me Cox they will see me in suit, and take picture of the food I eat. But trust me, depression is setting it.

I have to leave later on and start a farming business in a village around Ota. And I can tell you it has being joy ever since, and anytime we come across my respect have been earn back. So I don't believe your assertion, happiness is key to living even if you stay in aso rock and not happy. Then u need to leave

Sit your ass back in Lokoja bro. At least you have accommodation there, instead of ending up a destitute in Abuja.

Let me tell you a story - I know people that travel from Lokoja to Abuja daily for their daily bread, true story because these were some people I was supervising sometime back while working on a project in Abuja. Yes it happens. You can continue your job search from Lokoja. It's not that far from Abuja.

Money go fall believe me bro..
Have done it count less time....what you Seek with all your heart always find a way to you.
