This is so inspiring ma. Please I have a few questions. I am a 26 year old banker with 3 years experience but I want to venture into nursing. Do you advise I do Bsc Nursing (Scared of strikes in Nigerian universities and my age) or I go to a Nursing school which is just 3 years (Scared of the job and career prospects). Also can a School of Nursing graduate specialize in Nursing Anesthetic? Thank you.

Very nice thread. My wife(we married 6 months ago) just relocated to the USA(all expenses paid for including visa and tickets by a hospital in Michigan) . She was a nurse here in Nigeria for 3 years.. All the processes she went through is quite similar to the op.... Congratulations @op

I am a nurse in Nigeria.

I never planned relocating, but I wouldn’t want to bore us with my reasons for changing my mind. HOWEVER, THE MAJOR REASON IS MY CHILDREN’S FUTURE.

I became a nurse 15 years ago and majority of my mates are out of our dear country.

I have five (5) nursing diploma certificates, BNSc and MSc Nursing. Infact, I’ve started my Ph.D in Nursing Science (I’m suspending it anyway as I don’t know my bearing yet)

I have a fairly good job and my salary is a little above 200k.

A lot of my friends have encouraged me to relocate and work in Europe, but I had so much hope in Nigeria and was ‘team vacation’

My story changed August, this year.

So, I called a friend who relocated to the UK 14 years ago. She explained the process of relocating as a nurse to 5 different countries to me.

After discussion with my husband, parents and siblings, we decided that I should try that of UK.

I registered for IELTS and CBT that August and passed.
Then, started the process on the nmc UK portal.
I googled for an employer, got an agency, did interview and got the job.
I paid the required fee.

My employer asked me to resume November, but I told them I wasn’t ready as everything happened so fast, and my decision letter wasn’t ready then. So, I used that as an excuse, although they felt disappointed. But I need more bonding with my kids as I won’t be traveling with them. They will have to join me after some months.

I’ve gotten my decision letter and visa now and will be moving before the end of January.

Why did I open this thread?
1. To learn from people that have done this in the past
2. To assist people going through the same process

I will answer questions concerning the process to the best of my ability and ask questions when I also need clarification (maybe when I want to start packing my bags)

My fiancee is a practicing member of your noble profession (RN. BNSc Nursing Science) here in Nigeria. She has about 4 years experience.

We intend to relocate to the UK.
However, I need clarification in the following regard:

1. Is it better to be wedded before relocating or after?

2. I am privileged to be working here (I have a BSc in Biochemistry), however, I want to know if there are job opportunities for me too over there?

3. Can I work as a Health Care Assistant?

The preparation time depends on you. I prepared for 3 days. Some people prepared for weeks, some months. The truth is the exam is very easy to pass.
They usually repeat questions. I saw exactly what I read.
The materials are online.
If you can’t get them, you can mail me, I shall forward them to you.

-I'll advise that you wed before she travels.
-When you get over there, you will need to enroll on a course, before you can work as a care assistant. It doesn't take time though
-On the prospects of your course, when you get there and have a first hand experience of what's obtainable, you can then take a decision on whether to continue with your area or diversify through the Masters route.

Hello, trust you are doing well. I learnt that agencies do not recruit from Nigeria anymore. What other ways would you suggest for a nurse to get a job in the UK.

I am asking for a friend. Does nursing assistant/ Auxiliary Nurse required any form.of certificate. I have a friend working in that field for the past 2 years.

Do your wedding here so you can follow her as an accompanying spouse on her Tier-2 visa.

When you get there you have the freedom of working as many hours per week, as is convenient for you.
