[s]“If he (Dangote) wants to buy Arsenal, he can, but I think he should invest in a Nigerian club and make it world-class before buying Arsenal. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had a club in Russia, his home country, before he bought Chelsea.”[/s]

Someone should tell Arinze that it does not take one single billionaire owner to transform a football club in an obscure, and below par league into a world class organization. It takes the league association and administration providing right leadership, with innovation, discipline, rules and order that will percolate throughout the entire league associations, while bringing the needed popularity, and product demand locally and even internationally while generating revenue that will pay the salaries of all involved and leave profit for the investors.

Our league organization is in shambles, football league product is at an all time low in popularity. Dangote buying a club here does nothing to improve it. For once let great and visionary administrators emerge to transform the league.
But crucially too, the government of the country has an important role to play for a league to be successful.

With our situation, in this country today, the government cannot even provide the right environment for a functional league as the economy and security is in tatters.

Segun what kind of talk is this...why not talk about your film industry. How can only dangote invest in football in Nigeria? Is it how is done in other country? What sport need in general is repackaging and with a deliberate mission to generate revenue from different sports in the country. But the questions are: Can our minimum wage buy ticket of 5000 naira weekly? Can the football club owner make sports attractive by paying players like their counterparts? Will corruption and greed allow them to function? Our sports is not ready for development yet until our leaders become genuinely interested in making it a priority.

Seriously how will his investing in a Nigerian club make it world class?

Nigerian clubs that are enmeshed in politics.

Investing in it means he will step on toes which can affect his business.

It's not just about "investing" in one club or clubs, the entire system needs cleansing and upgrading.

Dangote already owns a Nigerian football club, but it has done terribly since he became chairman.

(It's one of the most famous Nigerian clubs and historically they were very good at winning the FA Cup, but the club has almost vanished since Dangote took over).

Which club is that?

You can't teach someone else how to spend his money. After all most of his investments are in Nigeria, including that $20billion dollars company. Let someone else invest in the Naija league joor!

please let dangote invest in Nigerian clubs,
he will surely break the monopoly there.

with 6-7 years of dedicated hardwork and pumping of funds into it.

he will make the Nigerian league even better than south African league of today.

all this people here that are insulting Nigeria system due to its failure.

that's why you will never be rich,
because the rich sees a solution where there is a problem and he quickly solves it for the masses

stop complaining and live right.

thanks!
pump money for 6-7 years without profit, was it how you are thought to do business?

do which business sir?

this is called sacrifice and not business,

dangote has enough money,
so he needed to clear the way for other investors to come in and that's where he will make profit.

this is a long term goal,
it can even take him 10 years to achieve this but let him never tarry for he will soon be rewarded

cheers!

why don't you think like a business man for once?
when south african league started it was even far worster than the Nigerian league today,

but today south African league is far more better than ours.

had it been they keep on complaining will they ever achieve it?

the answer is big NO.

so forget about the business profits for now,
after all a good name is far more better than money
Re: Segun Arinze Tells Dangote To Invest In Nigerian Football Clubs by openmine(m): 9:39am On Jan 02, 2021
Instead of urging dangote to purchase a Nigerian club,he should be clamouring for our football institutions to be strengthened!
Lots of corrupt practises by elements at our football hierarchy have hampered our football league!
When the sports institutions are adequately fixed, more business men will purchase clubs in Nigeria!
No business man or woman will want to invest in a league that is not productive!
Many will prefer to purchase clubs esp from epl due to its productivity, marketability and its powerful football institutions!

Apart from Enyimba,Kano Pillars,Plateau United,Rangers and Rivers United, the other clubs can't be profitable if invested in.
These aforementioned clubs are the only clubs that qualify in CAF and other international mathes or tournaments, they are also the richest and most watched teams with large pools of fans who are ready to spend on jerseys,ticket,e.t.c.

Oga. It is the league that will be come world class first before any club can. The league as it stands is poorly manage with high number of government ownership which is wrong. All clubs should be privately owned by shares, sponsorships sought, stadiums in good shape and all required techs in place

That can be possible if Nigerian youths invest their time in watching their matches

If the matches are televised youths would watch. If you doubt it, go to any field in your area where football is played, you would always see spectators.

I remember when English football was in crisis in the 1980s. The stadiums and pitches were terrible, there was constant violence and English clubs were banned from European football for 5 or 6 years. What changed? Why did the English League become the biggest in tge world?

It didn't happen because a rich man bought a club, rather the change occurred because the government and FA took action.

Margaret Thatcher complained that they could not waste resources to police football matches every weekend and then put policemen and people who lived around stadiums in danger. She set up a committee to investigate English football and recomend changes. She even suggested that fans should carry ID cards so that troublesome fans could easily be identified and banned.

The FA and clubs did not want Englisg teams to be excluded from Europe. They also didn't want Mrs Thatcher to impose ID cards on fans.

Finally, Sky TV offered the league a great TV deal, but they had to fight violence and improve the stadia. Sky didn't want to show hooligans or sandy and muddy pitches.

Because of this clubs installed CCTV in their stadiums so that the hooligans could be identified and banned. They worked with the police to ensure that the hooligans were prosecuted. They invested in research that produced perfect pitches. They developed new rules to tackle cheating and fraud.

All these changes in the 1990s helped the Premiership to overthrow Serie A and La Liga and become the biggest league in the world.

It was when that happened that people like Abramovich, the Glazers and Sheikh Mansour bought clubs in the Premiership.

please sir why compare those old days with now?
it did not work then does not really mean it won't work now.
No one is to blame for your future situation but yourself. If you want to be successful, then become “Successful.
Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits.
Every sucessful person in the world is a hustler one way or another. We all hustle to get where we need to be. Only a fool would sit around and wait on another man to feed him.
Invest in your dreams. Grind now. Shine later.
Hustlers don’t sleep, they nap.
Greatness only comes before hustle in the dictionary.
Without hustle, talent will only carry you so far.
Work like there is someone working twenty four hours a day to take it away from you.
Hustle in silence and let your success make the noise.

cheers!
