Is this the first one we would be having?

Good development though

Nope. We had two LSTs in the 1970s, '80s and '90s. They were crucial to our operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 1990s. They were NNS Ambe and NNS Ofiom. I wrote about them in the first 6 posts. However, they are no longer operational.

And yet we have made patrol boats

Was the hull of the boat made in Nigeria?

Was the rudder of the boat made in Nigeria?

Was the engine of the boat made in Nigeria?

Assembling CKD parts is not the same as making the entire components from scratch!

My father used to talk about two ships a lot. That's when he wasn't talking about F89.

One is NNS Ambe and the other was NNS Siri.

I wonder where Siri is these days. Last time I heard of it was when it made a brief stopover at Recife in Brazil on its way to I believe the UK for the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. I believe that was in 2005.

There was also NNS Ayam.

The old man used to tell me about those vessels a lot.

Can't we rather invest our scarce military dollars in equipment that will cut down the number of casualties in the north-east where troops are complaining about the lack of adequate equipment and stores. Surely the decision to build this vessel will have been made after the insurgency started more than a decade ago....why?

Is NNS Ambe still under repairs? And I think the Charles De Gaulle you mentioned is the only Aircraft Carrier the French Navy has.

NNS Ambe is in my opinion the most popular warship in Nigeria. I grew up living near NNS Pathfinder and I heard of NNS Ambe a lot.

To those that are asking why we have a navy, I will answer by directing you to a similar question from 20 years ago.

20 years ago people were asking why we had an army. They felt it was a waste of money. The military only took over government, they did nothing for Nigeria. Today those same soldiers are battling Boko Haram.

I'm sure that the hundreds of Nigerian, Ghanaian, Sierra Leonian, Liberian and other refugees that were rescued by NNS Ambe in the 1990s are grateful that we had an LST at that time.

Under construction?

From UAE? Can the UAE even protect themselves?

My opinion is under construction.

What do I know?

UAE now houses hundreds of companies especially the free trade zone due to zero tax, so the fact that it's UAE dockyard doesn't make it UAE manufacturers

Even fully functional US military base is in UAE

You mentioned NNS Ambe bringing in some Liberian refugees during the Liberian Civil war, sir.

Did you know that many of them ended up as my neighbours at Navy Town?

Don't ask me how that happened. smiley

Yes, I remember quite well. There was also a refugee camp in Ogun State.

The refugee camps were closed at the end of the war, but some of the refugees did not want to go back to their country and they ended up as street beggars in Lagos.

Yeah, the refugee camp at Ogun was always making headlines back then due to the squalid nature of the camp.
