why not make better use of it and probably arrest the people involved?

Why are we good at wasting resources like this?

Because it is reserved land and they didn't want anyone going there in the first place.

Stupid Government... Why not complete the project and mount security post on the bridge.... What is essence of the much celebrated Amotekun?

Why waste men and resources to build and monitor a rickety bridge that criminals built to aid their crimes?

OGUN UNCOVERS AN UNAUTHORISED FLYOVER BRIDGE IN OMO FOREST

Ogun State Government has detected and ordered an immediate destruction of an unlawful flyover bridge undergoing construction across Oluwa River, a boundary between Omo forest, Area J4 in Ijebu East and Ondo State.

The Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, who led a monitoring team to Laagan Village, where the unauthorised construction of about 50 meters long bridge was located, commanded the settlers to pull it down within two weeks before the next monitoring exercise that would come up on the 21, this month.

Akinosi said aims and objectives behind the heinous act, was for easy transportation of the State's forest resources by illegal loggers and flitches production, called 'Alamole', to be freely stolen and taken away to neighbouring States.

He pointed out that the present administration would not fold its arms and allow illegal settlers to take over the forest reserve, adding that some unscrupulous elements were behind the illegal construction which must have gulped about 15 to 20 million naira.

The Commissioner noted that many of the settlers who keep illegal arms to perpetrate crimes would be arrested and charged to court, saying, armed soldiers would remain part of the frequent monitoring exercises in order to prevent banditry which is becoming prevalent nationwide.

This is a lesson to the government, many people have realized Nigeria has no president or commander in chief but group of people managing the affairs of this country.

With that realization, they feel like just do whatever you can to make money
This kind of thing is happening in all sectors of the economy. This one is even a joke, come to riverine areas to see what is happening with crude theft and illegal refining.

It's a security risk.

Whether you believe it or not, Government always has a plan, nothing just happens by chance, they did not plan for it, the bridge is not in their plans, most importantly you need permission from the Local Government & State before any construction can commence, anything without a permit is null & void ab initio no matter how well executed.

pray that ignorance will not derail you in life. This is OMO-Forest, it is a nature conservation area. it is one of the few areas left with wild elephants and other anaimals in Nigeria. There isnt supposed to be any activity in this area, instead illegal loggers are busy felling down all the trees.

it is actually a UNESCO reserve

If it is a heritage site then relocate all the indigenous inhabitants and lock down the place to all but tourists.

You cannot have folks living there and deny them basic infrastructure or the right to live or profit off the/their land.

It is that contradiction that is causing this problem.

...and by the way the term 'flyover bridge' reverberates as badly as 'ATM machine'. A flyover is a type of bridge that passes or crosses over a road beneath and I cannot see one amongat those photographs.

So you believe you are more credible & know more than the people ruling you, & you are on Nairaland passing comments? Those in power are the cream of the crop for today, a bad tree can never yield good fruits, a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

I wonder who approved the Faseun Bridge that connect Ago to Bucknor in Lagos. The pillar under it is bending and huge truck ply it daily. That bridge is a disaster waiting to happen
I stay around that area very deadly bridge.

For those people quoting me....

We blacks barely use our senses....

A visionary leader will make something reasonable from it....

Someone said the foundation of the bridge might not be solid...Yes, but rather than destroying it, renovate it to a better standard and reduce the cost....

Make the place a tourism centre or something... Then have someone publish a touching story about the reserve...

You are smart kiss

Calm down my side chick. I understand what you mean. the government are demolishing it because it will aid illegal selling of the state's forest assets like woods and others. the question is does demolishing the flyover make sense instead of completing the work and monitor every activity going on there

It should be pulled down and a new and better bridge be constructed for legal activities, that way its a win - win situation...

Once it is illegal, it is illegal, nothing can make it legal, that is the law, it must be demolished, ignorance of the law, shall never be accepted as an excuse, why do Senators with their constitutional mandate still need approval before carrying out any public works? You must have a permit, anything done without a permit is an abandoned conclusive project.
