I need ideas for a friend thinking of relocating back to Nigeria - she's a recent divorcee with a child (looking to start over).
What can she do for a living?
If employment: what sectors are recruiting?
If business, what kind of business??

Due to the circumstances around her divorce, she desperately needs a fresh start and feels Nigeria is the best place for such. I've tried to advice her against it but to no avail.. so I've resulted to supporting her decision..
Created this thread so I can show her some good suggestions on how she can sustain herself back home..

Is she moving from syria,pakistan,lebanon,iraq because i dont understand why she is coming back to be killed by gunmen, boko boys or rammed by cows.

As for paid employment, there is none. She will struggle to get one. If she is loaded with cash, she should look into business to start, like importing fast moving consumer goods. She could as well discuss with some FCMG to act as distributor and wholesale dealer.

I understand that this period may be a trying period for her. Divorce is bad, bitter and depressing if the separation was fraught with bitterness. Don't listen to those bashing Nigeria. The country may actually offer her the needed healing if her family members are here and she wants a new start in life.

Well, what is her professional experience or skill-sets? Does she have family members (ideally connected) that she can stay with while she looks for a good position-or does she have cash to live on while she waits? I'm asking these questions because, unless extremely lucky, she would have to wait a while (sometimes years) for a very good and suitable position to come up. Or can she just manage any job wile she waits for a really good job? When I say good position I mean something that pays a monthly net salary above 900K per month. Extreme patience is the key to the Nigerian career game as the economy does not churn out many good jobs.

What job was she doing over there What are the prospects in Nigeria?. Like someone above said she can try business but if she is not Street smart na one chance be that.

If she has enough money to take care of herself and establish a self employed business , let her go straight from where she is to Gambia. Gambia is visa free for Nigerians.
Gambia is small, peaceful and a place she will enjoy if there is money.

Establishing a Standard hairdressing shop or Nigerian Restaurant will pay off.

Nigeria is a No, No

She better relocate to another part of the country where she currently resides if she needs closure and healing except if that abroad na Somalia, Iraq, Syria or Yemen.... Coming back to Nigeria is a NO-NO for now, last time I check Buhari is still the president...

"What can she do for a living? " First source of guaranteed income should be a combination of alimony and child support and if possible social security later on. She should make sure this is settled before moving back to Nigeria. Someone estimated that she needs about 900k to 1 Million income per monthly to live comfortably in Nigeria with her child. That is about $2,200 at 450 to a dollar.
Pharmacy business dey sell well well but you go shine your eyes wella. You can partner with a pharmacists and provide the capital to start

Moving back to Nigeria could be good but it’s a personal decision. It continues to be a good decision for me personally.

I won’t recommend coming back to go and work for someone. She needs to find her own niche and capitalize on her experience and exposure overseas.

Be a logistics provider for farmers up north?

If she is a legal immigrant in her host country, I suggest she stays back and puts herself together to rebuild.

If she is not, then going back home to Nigeria will be her best bet if she has family members that support and not the ones that expect.

However I strongly advise she stays back especially if she is in US, Canada, UK or European countries at least for her kid's welfare and future.

Kindly advice your friend to ear mark 35% of the 100% of money she intends to do business with to run a Fast Moving Consumer Goods business. This way, she'll be making daily income with chances of gradual growth because FMCG has stability. Though before/after coming to Nigeria, she has to take a course related to FMCG (e.g Supply Chain Management) to help sharpen her skills to predict the "Who, What, Where, Why, When" that economists recommend before starting any enterprise.
After the course, she can either seek paid employment in FMCG industries e.g. Nestlé, Cadbury, Unilever, etc, or she can give FMCG business a try.
Also advise her that she should never follow "investments" that are against the laid down Principles Of Investing. e.g. Pyramid schemes, Network marketing, etc, no matter what they say. If she wants to invest outside FMCG, she should question her likelihood to succeed in such business (a.k.a How many are the rich people around me or the world that made it through this business?).
She should NEVER allow any non-certified practicing stockbroker invest her money for her/on her behalf.

I've ran out of words to say, I might modify this post whenever the spirit leads me again.

She can set up an ice cream parlour, a restaurant, a fast food joint, a beauty therapy business (manicure, pedicure, spa, sauna etc), she can start a bakery, baking exotic cakes, she can open a nursery, or a small private primary school.

Mostly, she needs to be positive, optimistic, and be driven to succeed, and she will surely make a great life for herself and her kid here in Nigeria.

OP, but seriously, don't let emotions cloud your judgement. If you don't have to move now, don't do it. $1 Dollar = 475 Naira. Unless you are ready for a serious reduction in the quality of you and your sons daily life, don't move now. You know children don't understand. If the boy does not get his customary lifestyle that he is used to, he will make your like hell

She is always welcome, when she get to MMA she will start to see things for herself.
