Truth is, the cost of constructing roads in the south-south region is very high, simply because of the nature of our terrain. For instance, the 38km Bodo-Bonny Road construction is to gulp approximately 200bN, a 38km road ooo! why? ok, the road alignment spans through very natural soft marshy terrain accosted with varying degree of water level. Some proposed section of the road embankment is up to 5m in height, now you should know settlement will be of significant importance, hence the use of pvds to quicken the settlement rate and geotextile material to improving it's stability. All of this will surely bring about an increase in construction cost. Similar issues with the Second Niger Bridge. Now, let's look at the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road construction with approximately 400km in length, it's construction cost is about 165bN, waooo! We all know the terrain up North. 1 Like |

kebliss:All those comparisons i posted, is there any one that is not in marshy terrain. Is the any bridge over water that is not in marshy terrain? Or is there anything special with the Niger river? The bridges I posted, are over rivers and lagoons that are far larger and wider than the Niger river. Look at a second picture of one of the examples, So this ain't marshy? 2 Likes

kebliss:Acoording to Juilus Berger 3.8 million m3 was required for the roads. From quick research now, A 20T truck carries 16m3 at the cost of 40,000NGN. This results in total cost of 9.5 billion NGN or 24 million dollars. So thats not where the heavy costs came from. Concrete works take the most amount, so from Julius berger website 153000m3 of concrete was required. Inputing that into project estimation websites show that the project cost should not go beyond $100milllon with price fluctuations. and concrete foundations are usually cheaper than the beams. So you can reduce that to about 65 million dollars. |

A similar project in Indonesia cost 800 million dollars! what the government of the day told us was the cost was about 1.7billion dollars. I weep for Nigeria. 2 Likes |

I don't have problem with the cost, my only problem is that the bridge is too low to allow ship to go under to Onitsha if the East decides to dredge the Niger. This means any meaningful port can only be built at Ogbaru when we already have a port at Onitsha. Ogbaru to Onitsha by road is over 2 hours. |

They should award the contract for the bridge at inflated price like PDP and then pocket the money without execution as they have done for 16 years? Is it what you want? |
