I really need more info about this, my passport expired last year and if this news is true then i don't have to worry about dealing with Nigerian embassy

Same here, not found much explanation apart from bits and Bob

https://www.mondaq.com/nigeria/work-visas/904728/the-nigeria-visa-policy-nvp-2020

Entry of Nigerian citizens with other passports- The policy introduces multi-year, multi-entry visa classes for Nigerians in the diaspora with dual citizenship enabling them to enter Nigeria with the passports of other nations.

it’s just funny how we can’t even trust a Nigerian “policy” because of how Nigeria is. grin

Unless we find someone that has experienced it, we won’t believe it— no wonder we come here having trust issues! grin

Exactly! A friend called NHC and they told him a completely different story that he needs travel certificate. So many mixed messages even NHC can't confirm

This is good news for those of us whose passports expired over 5 years ago and can't be bothered to renew it. The previous policy was that dual nationals with expired Nigerian passports had to apply for a visa to visit their own country of birth.

Na just to de run small movements around neighborhood

Nothing big

Use the day pass to run around essential stuffs

Chreze:
@vooom

Have you considered getting bus pass. I don’t know which part you are in, but since there is lockdown in the uk and you won’t be able to move round, I will advice you set all your journey for one day. That day you get a “day bus pass”, set out early and do all what you want to do that day with the daily bus pass. That way you spend only mayb 4.6p or 5p and do all your runnings. Becos this one wey you won start to learn bicycle for road, make e no turn “Egugun be careful” matter ooo.

..About anything Nigeria you mean?

No, the ptsd stays and makes first time Nigerian travellers to the UK distrust the UK govt.

There was a case on this page of someone who saw a message on Gov.UK but still came here to confirm with us grin

How will I convince them that I’m a Nigerian holding a foreign passport? Travel with my birth certificate? National ID? I mean how will this work?

I rather travel with expired Nigerian passport and face them when I get to the airport. I can’t renew it because of Covid-19

A friend travelled with both British and an expired Nigerian passport and it was absolutely fine....so had both in her possession. .. This was even last year February 2020 (before covid) , BA checked her in with no issues, she got to Nigeria and told an officer to meet her at lagos airport but that oga self no show but it was absolutely fine . They didnt ask or say anything

We later asked a lawyer and he said for dual citizens going to NAija it's fine if naija passport is expired ( The lawyer said he done it several times) That if it's one passport holder then a travel certificate is needed or a valid passport.

A friend went back earlier this year with his British passport and expired Nigerian passport and he said they let him in no questions asked. He couldn't get an ETC from the HC, was in a rush (father died and they were burying fast due to Covid protocols). I'm not saying this is the standard procedure now, might just be a relaxation of whatever the rules are due to Covid. He's getting a passport now for the outbound trip just in case.

I have done similar thing 6yrs ago but my passport has few days validity on it before I entered Nigeria but it expired while I was in Nigerian.

When questioned by the immigration I told them that I will renew it when I get to the UK. The immigration office asked me to step aside while she kept attending to others and ignored me.

30mins or so later she called me to question me again I repeated what I told her before. She gave up and allowed me to boarding as I’m not willing to sort

Now I understand where you are coming from.

Can you email HomeOffice first to explain your situation? I think considering this situation you should be able to renew your brp with expired passport.

Yep. I travelled to Nigeria several years ago with a Nigerian passport that had expired a few years before that. There is a stamp on it placed by the Nigerian embassy which said it was valid to a certain date. I travelled a couple of months after that date. I don't think it was a problem when I got to Nigeria just their usual questions and practices at the airport. I explained to them I was going to renew it when I travelled back. As long you have dual citizenship it should be fine afaik
