I think the first judge who did this,did this unconsciously.if u look at it,it is not easy to pronounce a judge sentence oo,even if they told you the first judge cried self i won't doubt it self,na life o o o.i don learn new thing.thanks nairalanders,you no fit No book pass this circle I swear....

Judge's hand can't go with the pen. Lol
The condemned having been found guilty had taken his/her life himself/herself by committing what led to the conviction. Breaking of pen is just symbolic.
