That one no be talk abeg.
Getting pregnant or wanting to have a baby is not an exclusive right for only the married.
That particular rule should be removed as it is baseless.
Nigeria keep upholding law like a country operating in the cave men era.

not for the police....

be beyonce or what not,but surely not in the police force....

This ill treatment towards women should stop.
Value Female Network should look into this.

Unmarried male police officers impregnate young ladies everyday and they don't get sacked.
Why not chant."the future is female"?

I don tire for you.
Why are you misinterpreting my verdict. You spoke about men pregnanting women outside Wed lock I said they don't carry it to work so how does it affect them unlike the woman who carry it to work. With her condition maternity leave will be issued to her but on what ground, outside Wed lock? As a police personnel civility should be exhibit by the lady. Now you are sayin something completely out of box.

Lol how does being married change the fact that a woman is pregnant and will need a few months off work while retaining employment? What's the inherent connection, they are both still women and pregnant except one is married to a man. Also how does being impregnated outside wedlock translate to "uncivility" I'm pretty sure if you look far back enough in your family tree you'll see tons of your ancestors weren't formally wedded to the fathers of their children.

Must a woman be married before getting pregnant or giving birth? Some people might want it that way for financial reasons. When things improve, they tie the knot. I remember my former colleague . Their daughter who was also their first born was their flower gal on their wedding day

What kind of archaic thinking is this?

If she or he had relationship with a criminal in jail, that would be different.

Most times Nigerians are just foolishly backwards people.

If all the unmarried policewomen start getting pregnant from their numerous boyfriends and taking few months off..how will the police force Look like..In as much as sacking her is bad she needs to be used to prove a point..the police force should stand for morality and decency

Key word "if". What evidence do you have to show that police women would get pregnant in mass all in the name of pregnancy leave, pregnancy isn't fun and taking care of a child for the rest of of your life isn't something you decide to do because you want a few months off of work. I still don't understand how getting pregnant without being married is "indecency", pregnancy is pregnancy married or unmarried.

This is an absolute absurdity . hat if she was pregnated by a senior police officer? What happen to make police officers that also get other women pregnant? I believe the police force made a terrible mistake in this decision and they will surely pay dearly for this.

If women actually took some of these things seriously, there might be a change. From my experiences, I wont be surprised if it's a woman that recommended her dismissal.

Good for her

She is supposed to close her legs, but NO!
Our amiable NPF does not condone female promiscuity. It is only reserved for men and top officers.

Dindinrin, akidanidani. Did you say "NPF DOESN'T CONDONE FEMALE PROMISCUITY"? Yet they rape women and use sex as bargaining chip. How nany married female officers rise through ranks opening their legs for higher ranking officer. Most female officers are prostitutes.

You eh ? your ideology is never balance I don't know why. If you are comparing men and women remember that men don't carry pregnancy to work. Do I have to put you through on this like teaching ABC to a nursery pupils? You better think well to balance the other side.

There's no justification for what the police force did. Marriage is a choice and a lady has the right to decide to be a single mother or live with her man as an unmarried couple. It's her decision and her private life, the police can deny her material benefits given to nursing mothers if the policy says a marriage certificate must be presented before one gets those benefits. Sacking her was an overreach and it's surprising gender bias isn't letting Nigerians see that. They cited a law written in the 1940's and their excuse is that the new law hasn't been been circulated. Does that make it any less valid? Now they know the new law, have they reinstated her? It's not fair.

what is wrong with that....??

police should be good examples....
why are you gettin pregnant without marriage....??

Good examples of what? The decision to get married or not is a personal thing and shouldn't interfere with her career. They can deny her maternity benefits if that's the policy but sacking her is a big NO. Let's be logical and not sentimental.

tell her....
you wan send a pregnant woman to do dangerous police duties....??

even after she born the child, she will still need a while to recover....who is gonna finance that....??

This is no excuse. Maternity leave is called maternity leave cause the woman is paid for the period. The most the police would have done was to deny her that since there's no marriage certificate to support the memo. You don't sack people because they don't abide by culture. The law they cited has been repealed.
