LAGOS CBD REMOVES ILLEGAL STRUCTURES, MAKESHIFT SHOPS FROM ROADS, WALKWAYS
The Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, on Tuesday, embarked on the removal exercise of illegal structures and makeshift shops erected on walkways, road medians and drainage alignments as well as indiscriminately parked vehicles on roads within the Lagos Island Business District.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Olugbenga Olarenwaju Oyerinde, who led the exercise, said that the State Government is committed to the full restoration of the beauty and master plan of the Lagos Island Business District.

Olarenwaju said the antics of commercial bus drivers, commercial motorcyclists, shop owners and roadside sellers will not deter the government from transforming the entire Lagos Island axis into a world-class business and tourism hub, stressing that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration is very passionate about sustaining the environment and ensuring the free flow of traffic across the State.

“The gross abuse and flagrant disrespect for traffic, environmental and urban planning laws by roadside sellers, commercial motorcyclists and bus drivers, who pick and drop passengers in unauthorised places, mechanics and street traders on the Island can no longer be tolerated. We are working with relevant agencies of government and trade unions, especially NURTW and leadership of market associations to check these illegalities,” the Special Adviser said.

While warning street urchins and miscreants parading themselves as “Omo-Onile” and are in the habit of allocating parking spaces to motorists to desist, the Special Adviser maintained that no amount of resistance and intimidation would make the government stop the clean up of the entire Lagos Island Business District in line with the vision of making Lagos a 21st-century economy.

“We will continue to impound vehicles contravening the Lagos Traffic Law within the business district. The removal of shop extensions built on walkways and drainage alignments as directed by the Governor is already in progress. I call on residents and business operators to assist in sustaining the gains of the exercise while the government continues with its advocacy and public enlightenment”, he asserted

Oyerinde revealed that vehicles and motorcycles impounded in the cleanup exercise will be arraigned at the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court for adjudication.

This is the way to a better society for us all.
Lagos State is the Model State for all other states in Nigeria.
Slow and steady we will get to the Nigeria we all want.
God bless Nigeria.

Lagos Island CBD should undergo a radical environmental upgrade...

Once the aesthetics are much improved and regularly maintained --- these structures will be fewer.

Wrong timing!

Government that values structure more than people's lives

In this present economic situation, government should be creating more than one million jobs and not destroying people's means of livelihood all in the name of beautification

Great.

I’ve always looked forward to a cleaner, more civilized and beautiful Lagos.

Politics and corruption on the part of government has left Lagos exposed to the activities of irresponsible citizens. The citizens too on their part think that the city of Lagos is a jungle where they can do all they like and walk free.

This clean up exercise must be continuous and without fear to get Lagos to the point where it should be.

I also hope government can have the courage to clip the wings of NURTW in Lagos. A total ban on okada activities must be put in place. Ambode’s plan to phase out danfos should be implemented quickly for sanity in the motorways.

What proper structure can be put in place in those make shift shops Tell me!

Is the government going to build better and affordable shops there for the masses

No wonder there is regular suicide cases

People have mouth to feed, bills to pay, is the government thinking about that at all

A government does not only have a genuine intention but the heart of the people as well

Good move,
That's How gov Ganduje sanitize Sabon Gari and CBD with free flowing traffic which was hitherto the worst place to drive in kano metropolis,

How I can I be paying 600k for my shop and another person will just make temporary structure in front of my shop thereby blocking me entirely from road and public view? That was the case back in Kano especial Murtala Muhammad Way and Igbo Road

We need this and government should also regulate turning fences into shops it is defacing the city. All illegal attachments to fences should be removed.

If you keep considering this, Nigeria won’t change.
There are better ways to make money and hustle rather than turning a 4 lanes road to 2 lanes just because some lagosians are trying to convert 2lanes of the road to their shop.

Mind you, these people you are defending are richer than most of you government workers, there are complexes everywhere, let them rent shops there.

You need to see what’s happening in BALOGUN market road to island! The non stop and stand still traffic has always been because the rich market women converted the road to an EXTENSION of their SHOPS!

Stop defending this people and let the government do their job, there are better ways to make money than obstructing MILLIONS of road users, that is not “fending” that is being SELFISH.

I’ve been to countries and I haven’t seen anywhere where people converted roads (not even road side o, main road gangan) to a spot for advertising their wears

And one day you will open your mouth on how Kigali in Rwanda is more beautiful than Lagos. A society without order is doomed.
