Corruption: Garba Shehu Blames Nigerians For Transparency’s Poor Ranking by iwaeda: 1:33pm On Feb 01, 2021
The Presidency has blamed Nigerians for the country’s poor ranking on Transparency International’s 2020 Corruption Perception Index in which Nigeria scored 25 out of 100 and was named the second most corrupt nation in West Africa and ranked 149 out of 180 countries.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday, barely two days after the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, discredited Transparency’s report.

Responding to a question, Shehu said the report is a reflection of corruption by Nigerians and not by the Buhari administration.

He said, “I’ll tell you that this one by TI is not a judgment on Buhari or his administration or its war against corruption, I will tell you that this one is a judgment on Nigerians because if you look at the indices they used at arriving at these conclusions, they used eight indices, six of which showed Nigeria as being more or less Nigeria in the same position.

“The two that they dwelled on, that caused this backslide, are essentially Nigerian problems. They’re talking about the political culture of this country, vote-buying, thuggery. Is it Buhari that is a thug? We’re not doing thuggery.

“And when they talk about the justice sector, they are talking about perceived corruption in the judiciary. These perceptions are essentially not correct. Yes, there are issues in that sector but so many changes are going on in that sector wouldn’t it have been nice if they acknowledged it so that you encourage those judicial officers that are upright, and then the system gets getting better.”

Shehu’s position, however, differs from that of Transparency which drew its conclusion from 13 data sources that capture the assessment of experts and business executives on a number of corrupt behaviours in the public sector including bribery, diversion of public funds, use of public office for private gain and nepotism in the civil service.

Sometimes it's best to keep quiet...

- Are the appointed managers not from the Governement?

- Is it the people that stole palliatives etc ?..

- is it the people that are building the most expensive railway/km in Africa while covering the shortest distance in comparison.. etc..

- when we were ranked higher, was it not still same Nigerians of now?.

My brother, read my post again, lol... Is it Buhari that stole the palliatives? And the corruption in government - did you read my comment at all? Or you read but couldn't comprehend? Now go back and read the comment, you'll realize it has already answered to the quote above..

God bless Nigeria.

[/s]"Any person who is obsessed with proclaiming his so called integrity at the slightest opportunity but won’t investigate, much less fire, shady characters he has appointed to work with and for him can’t possibly be truly a person of integrity.

From PTF to The Buhari Organization (TBO), Buhari has consistently protected corrupt close aides from the consequences of their ethical and legal infractions. This attitude of mollycoddling corrupt but loyal aides and appointees while pretending to be a man of “integrity” who is “fighting” corruption is getting worse by the day indicates that, in spite of self-righteous declarations to the contrary, Buhari is himself morally indistinguishable from his crooked cronies.

There is no point recalling Buhari’s overprotection of corrupt & disgraced former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.Buhari actually wrote in his personal capacity to exonerate Lawal of corruption charges, but was later forced to eat his own vomit by firing him.To this day, Lawal hasn’t been prosecuted, is still a regular visitor to the Presidential Villa....

So it is impossible to deploy the resources of logic to argue that Buhari has integrity. He doesn’t. Well, unless integrity means something to Buhari supporters other than what it actually means in the English language."

Nice...

Garba Shehu is 100% right here... Exactly what I have been preaching on this Forum... Change begins with the people... 99.9% of Nigerians are corrupt..

Then we vote some of us to become senators, governors, presidents, etc. Others become lawyers, judges, etc. Before you know it, we have corrupt elements in government.

That's the problem... Ask any Nigerian to mention 10 incorruptible Nigerians... Once they mention President Muhammadu Buhari, you'll notice they begin to stammer, and then they'll tell you they can't recall any more names.

Too bad.. Even foreigners know this... The Archbishop of Canterbury is an example... He identified only Buhari as the only incorruptible man in Africa! While I am happy for Buhari, I weep for my fellow Nigerians. We really need to change. It's no longer funny. Our image is battered!

But e go better.

Person wey do you This thing wicked.....

It can't be reversed

Lol, my brother... Dishing out lies and unsubstantiated allegations will do you no good... If they ask you for evidence now, you'll start sharing "alleged" results...

Need I remind you that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty? Even Orji Uzor Kalu still mingles with the President. Buhari is not the law court.. Buhari shields no one... See screenshots... Lawal's trial... EFCC, ICPC, and other agencies have been empowered.. Buhari doesn't interfere with their affairs... Reason Magu was suspended after it was proven beyond reasonable doubt by the Attorney General of the Federation and later, by the panel that he was culpable... Otherwise, Buhari allows every agency to function...

Buhari doesn't act based on rumors or hearsay... You must substantiate your allegations before he acts... That's how a good leader should act...

Like I told you before, if you don't have fact, then hush... Stop making or sharing baseless allegations.

Nigeria must better.

Are Nigerians the ones borrowing loans from China? Are Nigerians closing borders and dishing out negative policies that affects our Naira and economy?

The current group of people in leadership today are common yahoo boys with insatiable thirst for the national cake. Left for me, the Jim Rawlings treatment would be the least to be meted to these robbers!

As Nigerians we have never had it this bad on our national discourse. Government is suppose to take responsibility and look for ways to make solutions! This government is a monumental failure and shame to our national life.

Yeah! I was the one who appointed & indicted:
-Lawal Babachir-grasscutter scandal & sustained him in office despite his twice indictment by the senate?,

-Obono Obla & also sustained him for 4years despite the glaring corruption of his forged WAEC certificate, hence law degree certificate & other moral baggage?

-Prof.Yusuf(Former NHIS sec. #100M corruption scandal upon which he was indicted twice by a panel set up by former minister of health-Prof.Isaac Adewole but defended by Buhari himself who reinstate him to post.

-Rotimi Amaechi($50M PH scam & failed monorailed project),

-Babatunde Fashola(Corrupt upgraded of a non existing website coroner),

-Ibrahim Magu(the anti-corruption witchhunt lapdog who ended up corrupt by corruption @ the EFCC for more than 4years),

-Who wiggled out the likes of Danjuma Goje, Abdullahi Adamu, Matarkada Wammaco among many from all the corruption they have been indicted in? [/b]

They are always sounding stupid and irresponsible as usual. Never accepting responsibility.Always find who or what to blame except for their cluelessness hence unimaginable corruption that have bestrode all strata of our national life under these corrupt sanctimonious hypocrites.
